Username

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "ئارام بکر", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because sadly, wikipedia doesn't allow non-unicode characters in usernames. This has a lot to do with accessability issues. Please change this.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Hello Lee Vilenski! My characters username are unicode. However, I want to change my username. But i have two questions:
  • I do not think a change of username is mandated by policy or even necessary, assuming "ئارام بکر" is not gibberish (or a cuss word, or a polemical slogan, etc. - I cannot read Arabic).
@Lee Vilenski: Pretty much every character you will ever see online, including the username here, has a Unicode representation, so Wikipedia doesn't allow non-unicode characters in usernames makes about as much sense as Wikipedia does not allow PDF in usernames (I guess it's technically true, but it does not say what one would expect it says). (EDIT: if "non-unicode characters" is something in a template or Twinkle notice, it needs to be corrected, so please say so.)
The relevant policy (WP:NOEMOJI) says that one should not use non-language Unicode points in usernames. If that username is actual Arabic, it is allowed. (However, per Wikipedia:Signatures#Non-Latin_usernames, it would be better to customize the signature to add a Latin transliteration.) TigraanClick here to contact me 09:52, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm surprised by that, but fair enough! Thanks for your help Tigraan. I'll keep that in mind. Google translate brings up I think a name, ignore my above, with apologies. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:57, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Tigraan First word in my username is meaning of "Calm" in english (that is my name and it is a Kurdish name (not Arabic)). However, Thank you for your greate support! And Lee Vilenski It is normal and i'm a tolerant user:) Thank you both! --ئارام بکر (talk) 10:52, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
No problem, and sorry about the Arabic/Kurdish confusion.
Would you mind adding a transcription or transliteration of your username (that is, a latin-alphabet rendition of how it is written or pronounced) in your signature? See Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing_your_signature for the technical help to do so. While you are not obliged to do so, that would help both screen-reader users (whose text-to-speech program might fail of foreign-language scripts) and people such as myself who are unable to read the alphabet (it would be very easy for me to mix you up with another Kurdish user if neither of you provides a Latin script rendition in the signature). Tigraan No problem, I designed new signature to myself. Has it problem now? Thank you a lot to adviced me! ⇒ AramTalk 20:06, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Reply-link has officially been superseded by mw:DiscussionTools, which you can install using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. DiscussionTools, developed by the WMF's Editing Team, is faster and has more features than reply-link, and it wouldn't make sense for me to keep developing reply-link. I think the Editing Team is doing amazing work, and look forward to what they can do in the future. Thank you for using reply-link over the years! The reply-link user script you developed one day is used by many users, and I appreciate your work! ⇒ AramTalk 12:35, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 185.244.154.XXX. XXX changes frequently. I'm innocent and just involved. Thanks! ⇒ AramTalk 15:52, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

The IP address you are using is a confirmed proxy. You claim it isn't, but that's not what multiple technical sources indicate. Yamla (talk) 19:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Yamla: Ah, you again, :) but thanks for taking care of me. I didn't say anything. The template provided that reason, and I didn't edit it. It feels like I have no other choice but to leave English Wikipedia, at least until 2025. ⇒ AramTalk 20:31, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
