Your new article

edit

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia editing.

If you're interested in plants, please have a look at WP:PLANTS and its pages, in particular its article template.

Some points about Ormosia travancorica:

  • Did you copy the information in the Description section from the source given? If so, it must be deleted immediately. You may not copy material: read WP:PLAGIARISM.
  • The leading section of the article is supposed to summarize the content. Normally there should be little new information there. For a stub, it's often only possible to have a single section, but you should aim to follow this guideline. See WP:LEAD.
  • You shouldn't write in "bullet" style as you did in the Description section. Wikipedia articles are written in prose: see WP:USEPROSE.

It's complicated to write a good Wikipedia article! Please don't be put off by these comments; at WP:PLANTS we're there to help. A good way to start is to look at some of the featured plant articles. Of course, it takes a long while to build up articles like this, but it can help show what to aim for. Most of the articles on Banksia species are worth looking at, for example. For a shorter article, look at Hyacinthoides non-scripta, perhaps.

Do feel free to ask questions at WT:PLANTS! Peter coxhead (talk) 09:53, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks indeed for you guidelines. Bye! --தகவலுழவன் (talk) 10:35, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

APG III

edit

In your comment elsewhere you said "[I] think we should furnish updated classification as APG III not obsolete classification." We do follow APG III. I'm no expert on Fabaceae; what is currently wrong with the classification in the taxobox at Ormosia travancorica? Peter coxhead (talk) 14:44, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I studied botany at college level. So, i know something about the plant classification. Naturally, I am interested in APG III and learning through internet. APG III( published in 2009 ) says,
  1. Cladus: Angiosperms
  2. Cladus: Eudicots(Not able to include even as unranked!)
  3. Cladus: Core eudicots
  4. Cladus: Rosids
  5. Cladus: Eurosids I
but this taxobox says as "(unranked):" which should be as Cladus(life branch). I am coming to en.wikipedia to learn tech for my mother toungue Tamil. Please take necessary step. --தகவலுழவன் (talk) 17:01, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
"Cladus" is just the Latin for "clade", which is not a rank in the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants. So "unranked" is quite correct and is what we always use here. Eurosids I could have been included, but it was decided at WP:PLANTS to keep taxoboxes fairly simple to avoid them becoming too long and cluttered. If you think that this clade should always be included, start a discussion at WT :PLANTS and see if you can persuade people. Peter coxhead (talk) 22:30, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants is general, not specific for Angiosperms(250,000 to 400,000) species). I don't know, how many Angiosperm-plants are classified under the general system here. Please, note the experts around the world following APG III(Angiosperms#History_of_classification). Why should we? I am going to talk with my community not here. Because, my typing ability is high in my mother tongue only. The sections, i mentioned above are enough to start a discussion at WT :PLANTS. Please, discuss with your friends and make the history. --தகவலுழவன் (talk) 02:20, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I understand that it's not easy for you to discuss complicated issues in English.
We do follow APG III. We just don't use every clade that has a name in APG III. (Just as we don't always put in subfamilies, subgenera, sections, etc.) The taxobox is meant to indicate where the taxon fits in the tree of life, not give all the detail of the classification. I've marked this article as reviewed. Try including a picture. Otherwise a good article. However, it didn't really need a definition of "canopy" as well, because you just need to link it to the page. :) Regards
