I will not with draw my application. I believe I can do it! By the way some of the pages have child porno which IS aganst the FLORIDA LAW THANKS YOU SO THAT SHOULD GO!!!! -- Hornetman16 17:27, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Then you can be a responsible editor and alert the proper Wikipedia authorities to the content in order to have it assessed for removal. You will also find that Florida State law doesn't stretch too far on the Internet, local as-opposed-to global jurisdiction. Your self-belief is admirable but also lacking in supporting evidence. (aeropagitica) 17:38, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
What do you mean "supportive evidence"? -- Hornetman16 17:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- SupportING evidence, i.e. the 243 edits that you have contributed don't show participation in XfD discussions, assisting on new page/recent change patrols; vandal warnings and reporting to WP:AIV; assisting new users at the Help and Reference Desks; participation in Wikiprojects, etc. As predicted, your RfA has been closed early. Take the advice and get some experience before attempting another one in six to eight months' time. Regards, (aeropagitica) 18:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Adoption
Hi there, thanks for adopting me! What's the best way to communicate with you when I have questions and such? IM, email, talk pages, or probably anything else works for me. ≈Krasniy(talk|contribs) 18:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- A message on my Talk page when you have a question or issue will be enough for me, thanks! I look forward to working with you soon. (aeropagitica) 22:05, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you
I just wanted to thank you for your support in my recent RfA, which was successful. I'll do my best to wield the broom wisely! | Mr. Darcy talk 18:29, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Admin coaching
Hello. I see from the admin coaching status page that you (along with The Gerg, who is retired) were coaching User:SP-KP. Did that ever get off the ground? If you're not actively coaching someone, would you like a new student? Thanks, Fang Aili talk 19:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- It didn't get off of the ground, what with my associate coach retiring and all of the vandalfighting I've been doing lately. If you have another candidate who would like some guidance then please do let me know! (aeropagitica) 23:51, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've asked SP-KP if he would like to restart coaching; if he doesn't respond in a few weeks we can move on to another student. :) --Fang Aili talk 19:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for voting
Thank you for voting in my RfA which at 51/20/6 unfortunately did not achieve consensus. In closing the nomination, Essjay remarked that it was one of the better discussed RfAs seen recently and I would like to thank you and all others who chose to vote for making it as such. It was extremely humbling to see the large number of support votes, and the number of oppose votes and comments will help me to become stronger. I hope to run again for adminship soon. Thank you all once more. Wikiwoohoo 19:51, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
"not posted by Sam Blanning, for some reason"
Because my entry in the block log, combined with MediaWiki:Blockedtext, is just as informative and more mollifying - and in far less words. --Sam Blanning(talk) 22:46, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- OK, so that's the reason! (aeropagitica) 22:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Alrighty, first question!
Well practically the only page I pay any attention to is Alaskan Malamute. Three times an anon from 3 different ip addresses (presumably one person as all are from the same block owned by a single broadband UK company) added the UK rescue link. The first time I figured it was better suited with a link to the actual club, plus there aren't any other rescues linked and all the clubs have links to rescue organizations. They added it once again since I last looked; while they didn't do it quite right, they did stick it under a new heading. I think it's better without rescues link because for one thing, external links won't end up be unnecessarily long, but am leary to once again get rid of it because 1) they'll probably add it again, 2)I don't want to get into an edit war, and 3)I realize I'm new and maybe it is better to have all the rescues as a link. (This question was my motivation for wanting to be adopted, by the way.) So, what do you think? ≈Krasniy(talk|contribs) 23:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- OK, for external links guidance I go to Wikipedia:External links, paying particular attention to "Links normally to be avoided". First off, http://www.malamuterescue.co.uk/ states that it is; "An all volunteer non- profit making organisation dedicated to the welfare & re-homing of pure bred Alaskan Malamutes in the U.K.". This is not the definition of a charity registered with the Charities Commission here in the UK, so it has no official status. Point one of the external links guidance states;
- "Articles about any organization, person, web site, or other entity should link to the official site if any."
- As this isn't the official site of the Breeders Club for the variety of dog, the Kennel Club or other officially-recognised canine organisation, I would say that this argument doesn't hold water.
- Secondly, the first statement in the 'Links to be avoided' section states;
- "Any site that does not provide a unique resource..."
- A scan through the pages of the external site doesn't indicate that I can learn more about this dog breed here than on Wikipedia - another argument for its removal.
- Thirdly, the ethical breeding page on the website offers a 1pt meta-packing paragraph containing variations on the following;
- "...puppy farmers are disgusting, stamp on them dont fund their evil trade..."
- I think that statements such as these are point-of-view and shouldn't be counted as official statements from authorised bodies. It is their website, so they can state whatever point of view they wish but a link on Wikipedia might be seen by some as carrying a type of imprimatur, so this shouldn't be fostered.
- Lastly, point thirteen;
- "Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject..."
- This external link is about fostering a dog breed, something that is at-best a tangent from the main WP article.
- It's up to you as to what you would like to do. Remove the external link and give the above reasons to the anon-IP editor; ask them to justify the inclusion of the link on the article's Talk page, as it isn't clear about why it should be there; warn them about vandalism and report them to WP:AIV when they get to {{test4}} status - it's your call. (aeropagitica) 23:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the thorough advice! This will help me muchly ≈Krasniy(talk|contribs) 01:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Request for comments
Hey there Aeropagitica, a while back you provided some insightful comments on my RFA. If you have a moment, could you take a look at what I've been up to over the past while and provide any pointers where you see fit? Thanks. :) --Brad Beattie (talk) 03:20, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Good afternoon Brad, or should I say konishiwa as you appear to be in Tokyo as I type this? I have reviewed your last five hundred edits in the user Talk and Wikipedia spaces, as they are the areas that I made a particular point of noting at your RfA. My particular concerns were to do with warning vandals and justifying your opinions on XfD discussions with reference to policies and guidelines. In the two months since your RfA took place, I can see that you have made substantial and successful attempts to communicate with vandals and to back your opinions up with policies. I really like editors who do this as it makes it easy for me and any other person to instantly review your reasoning in order to support you - no one has to redo your work as all of your working-out is included! On this basis, using your current performance as a baseline, I would have no problem in supporting you if you decide to go for another RfA in the New Year. Even if you don't, this is the sort of performance that new editors should be able to look at and use as a model for their own Wiki-careers. I hope that this information is useful to you. Regards and happy editing, (aeropagitica) 17:47, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
AfDs
I figure I should expand a bit with my contributions. What do I need to know to get involved into Afds? Could you provide me with some links or anything useful so I can know what to do and how to do it right? I figure I'll read up on it and try my hand at it later in the week. Thanks! ≈Krasniy(talk|contribs) 20:51, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Believe it or not, the best thing to read up on in order to study AfDs are... AfDs! They are archived by date, so take a look through any of the last years' worth, or all of them if you have the time! The things that I would suggest that you look out for are the quoting of policies and guidelines when editors back up their opinions. You will get a sense of which editors are familiar with and like to refer to policies when making their judgements, so you can look at their contributions to see how they go about performing their duties. From there, read the policies and guidelines themselves. There are a lot on the list, so start with the most quoted ones in AfD - probably, WP:BIO, WP:NOT, WP:CORP, WP:Music, WP:SOFTWARE - just off the top of my head. You will also begin to see where nominations could also be speedily deleted, using criteria set out in WP:CSD. Some people make mistakes when giving their opinion and state 'speedy delete' when the criteria says no. You will be able to spot these in time.
- Personally, I would recommend that when you begin to give your opinion on the discussions that you back each one up with a policy or guideline, i.e.
- Delete Non-notable biography as per the criteria set out in WP:BIO. (aeropagitica) 21:34, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- That way, if anyone disagrees with you and tries to tell you otherwise, you can be sure that your opinion was based upon one of the key sections of WP - it's their problem, not your problem! So, to summarise - 1) read the AfD discussions, 2) follow the work of editors who quote policy in their opinions and 3) read and become familiar with the policies and guidelines. This will take a few months, so don't treat it like a University Finals exam! Regards, (aeropagitica) 21:34, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Oh don't talk about finals! I just finished those. ha :cP Thanks, I'll start looking into this and checking out old AfDs. ≈Krasniy(talk|contribs) 22:10, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Image Licensing
The new WP:GL is right up my ally of my limited computer graphics ability. I can make SVGs without a problem, but I'm wondering about licensing. For this I think I just upload over the old image which I figured out how to do, but I am not sure what to pick looking at the drop-down menu for licensing. I'd release any SVG I uploaded into the public domain, but does it count as my own work? Hmm maybe it's asking to upload to Commons. I am probably too asleep to comprehend correctly. It's nap time for this mom-to-be. Appreciatively,≈Krasniy(talk|contribs) 00:08, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello there! I hope that you had a nice sleep! The place that I would go to in order to understand licensing my own work for use on Wikipedia and related projects is Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, specifically For image creators. This section states:
- "The licenses in this section are designed not so much to restrict use of your work, but to keep it free."
- I imagine that this is what you had in mind. I would also consider uploading to Wikicommons in order to make your images available to as many WikiMedia projects as possible. I hope that this is useful for you! Regards, (aeropagitica) 17:04, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Adoption
Heh, thanks for the offer! I've edited Wikipedia before, but I'm not very good at it, frankly. It's mostly minor edits, so any help would be appreciated. --Sapphire Flame 14:32, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's alright! Please ask me any questions that you have about editing WP - directed learning can come from questions such as "How do I..." or "What would you do in this situation..." but I will do my best to answer whatever you have a query about! - Give people the Civility Barnstar.
- Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.
Decision Making
The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

School IP Blocked
24.224.240.192 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), my high school's IP, was recently blocked due to vandalism. Hi, you just deleted my new article Mac Poker Online as I was writing it. Your reasoning was that it did not express it's importance. However, it is the oldest authority informational portal for Mac poker players and is in the top 1% of the highest trafficked websites in it's industry. I do not understand how that lacks importance? Can you please provide me with feedback about how I can have this listed properly? Adioking 23:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Notability criteria for websites can be found at WP:WEB. The website has an Alexa rank of 142,733, which means that it isn't a particularly important website. (aeropagitica) 00:02, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Update:
I feel that it meets the following criteria:
The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself.
This website has been reviewed and listed by an editor in the DMOZ project among the most popular poker guides on the page http://dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Poker/Online_Cardrooms/Guides/ Mac Poker Online would also be listed in the Yahoo! directory, however they no longer accept gambling submissions.
You are correct about the Alexa rank, but your opinion is skewed. Gambling portals receive much less traffic than many other industries simply because of the size of the niche. In addition to that, Alexa rank can easily be manipulated. Do a backlink search and you will notice how many other sites mention this one: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=linkdomain%3Amacpokeronline.com+-site%3Amacpokeronline.com&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz2&x=wrt

I'm perplexed as to why you are not allowing me to create a list of official legislation websites. I am a Legislation and Policy Officer with the NSW Department of Corrective Services, part of the Government of New South Wales, Australia. It's part of my task to know where I can find legislation from official sources. There are plenty of Wikipedia entries which are basically lists, and those sites are probably maintained by users who do not have the knowledge that I have from my work.
Please let me finish the wikipedia article, for the sake of people around the world who might find it useful. After i've added some data to the table, I intend to add further 'encyclopedic' style information. But i've got to start somewhere, you know? Thankyou. Kind regards, user:Spunkyy, from Sydney, Australia. ps. I'm new to wikipedia (contributing that is; i've been using it ever since its inception). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dcs.nsw (talk • contribs)
- A peer-reviewed list of external websites is not encyclopedic - did you read the boilerplate text on {{db-empty}}? If there is no encyclopedic content then it will be deleted as an empty article. If this article is work-related then I suggest that you talk to your departmental webmaster in order to obtain a publishing account and some official NSW government web space and publish it there. If you want to know how to contribute effectively to Wikipedia then please read Wikipedia:The perfect article and Wikipedia:Your first article for starters.
- Lastly, please sign your comments with four tildes, ~~~, like this. This makes it easier to communicate with other editors. It also helps to sign your comments with your proper user id, because your comments above appear to be from a troll. Regards, (aeropagitica) 00:23, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
My Adminship
Thanks for the congratulatory note and your support on my RfA ... not long after you wrote to my user talk page, Redux dropped my welcome package off. Regards --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 10:41, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
With the utmost respect- being head of Scotland yards murder squad is a mark of notability...... rob77 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rob77 (talk • contribs)
- Firstly, please sign your comments with four tildes, ~~~~, as this makes it easier for editors to respond to you. Secondly, the comment was directed towards the biography-as-presented, rather than to the individual. It may be that this police officer is notable for achievements that have been recorded in reliable sources. If so, they should be presented in the article in order to be useful to researchers. An officer can lead an investigation and not be notable except in the context of the investigation. In that case, the biographical comments could be limited to the article on the investigation. If the officer has received a string of commendations for investigations, bravery, etc then there may be more of a case for an article. Refer to WP:BIO for details. Adopting me
Hi aeropagitica! I'd love to be adopted. I am pretty new here. See my User page for. . .several. . .userboxes re: my interests. I think I'll mainly work on fixing grammar and messy pages, and maybe Wikifying if I can get a feel for the correct tone of Wiki articles. (I have an editor's eye.) I am pretty confident, but I think I may need to Be More Bold. Goyston 16:42, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fine! Being bold is a good idea - don't be afraid to make mistakes! They can always be reverted or corrected. You can ask me about anything to do with Wikipedia and I will do my best to answer - either from experience or using research. There's a lot to do on this project and I have only scratched the surface in two years. I'll look forward to hearing from you! Regards, (aeropagitica) 16:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
If the title of "WFAN Callers" is changed to "List of WFAN Callers," does the concern still exists?
If the concern still exists, could you help me delete this article? Thanks a lot in advance. --Chaohwa 18:40, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- I can't see anything in the article that suggests the biographies of the callers are notable or the Talk show into which they call is notable either. Do you have any sources to state the notability? If so, can they be included, please? (aeropagitica) 18:48, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Unfortunately, only 2 of them have sources. So it would be better to delete this article. --Chaohwa 19:14, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Now deleted. I can give you a copy of the article, if you want. Check out the {{welcome}} salutation and read the pages that link from it - you can get a lot of information about sourcing and referencing for encyclopedic articles from there. Regards, (aeropagitica) 21:19, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Please Adopt Me!!!
Thank you for offering to adopt me. I just started using Wikipedia a few months ago, so I don't know much about editing pages. I will appreciate any comments, suggestions, even criticism that you have for me. As for time zone I am on Central Time(U.S.A.).--Martha Lois 20:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- OK, if you are on Central US time then I will go to bed at around 1600 your time, so there may be a lag in our correspondence from time to time! I see the adoption service as more of a mentor/guidance facility, where I can try to answer all of your questions either from experience or doing research on your behalf and giving my opinion. It's your service, so please feel free to ask me any questions that occur to you in the course of editing. I'll try and do my best for you! Regards, (aeropagitica) 21:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Adoption of Tindrith
Hi Aeropagitica, Thanks for taking me on as a Adoptee. I will need mostly help in finding my way around, and Wikimarkup. For the moment I am working on my Talk Page, and User Page just to get a handle on the Wikimarkup language and the structure of a Wiki. My User Talk page is the best place to contact me. I look forward to learning under you. Tindrith 21:46, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Adoption
Hi there; I really do hesitate to suggest to you what you should do, because you have been around a lot longer than I have. I see that you are in contact with two of the editors who are requesting adoption; a project that User:Lethaniol is running with some assistance from me and from User:CattleGirl. Could I ask you, if adoption has been decided on, to change the appropriate userboxes on your and your adoptees userpages so as to take them out of the "seeking adoption" category?--Anthony.bradbury 23:26, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Please don't hesitate to offer suggestions to me or to anyone! I don't take offence to constructive criticism. I've been distracted tonight with vandal fighting and new page patrolling, so the userboxes slipped my mind. I'll do it now before I go off to bed. TRYING TO ASK NICLEY, Libertyville 23:46, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Since when are Middle schools notable? --tjstrf talk 23:48, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Libertyville, you don't own the articles that you author, as they are released in to the public domain under the GFDL licence. They are open to be edited mercilessly or even deleted if they are not sufficiently notable. The above article was PRODded and deleted after five days when it showed no signs of improvement. If you want to resurrect it then please take your business case to Wikipedia:Deletion review. Lastly, if you are trying to ask nicely then you can start with using lowercase characters. Typing in capitals is the equivalent to SHOUTING AND IS VERY HARD TO READ WHEN PARAGRAPHS ARE PRESENTED IN SUCH A FASHION. Demanding is also less-than-polite - requesting is somewhat nicer, especially as I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you on WP before. First impressions do count, you know!
- tjstrf, notability for schools is decided with the Schools Wikiproject. (aeropagitica) 23:56, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I knew that. I'm just saying that Middle schools are generally held to be non-notable without exceptional circumstances. As opposed to colleges, which are generally held to be notable, and highschools, which are generally held to be argued in circles about. --tjstrf talk 00:03, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
