Regards of template sandboxes being replaced with different text

edit

Hey, I noticed that you replaced every template in all of the template sandboxes with "oops". This counts as vandalisim and I had to copy and paste one of my previous revisions of Template:X45 because my work was replaced. I noticed that you did it in all of the template sandboxes execpt for Template:Template sandbox. I may or may not revert the changes you made, if some of the template sandboxes are not cleared regulary by Cyberbot I. I'll let you off with a warning since I am a nice guy. If you have any questions, leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks for your understanding. RandomWikiPerson_277talk page or something 15:16, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that, didn't know you were working on something on X45. I did that to test and see which sandboxes get automatically cleared by Cyberbot I when it's the bot's time to do so. And I got my answer: X1-X20 and Template sandbox are cleared automatically by Cyberbot I, but not X21-X53. Feel free to revert the remaining template sandboxes. 1033Forest (talk) 15:35, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@1033Forest: It's fine, it's a learning experience. RandomWikiPerson_277talk page or something 15:39, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Why do you keep editing the sandbox with the same message, at around the same time?

Just for testing purposes as that's what the sandbox is supposed to be for, and also so the bot has something to clear each hour. 1033Forest (talk) 17:58, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, thank you, I didn't mean to come off in an accusative manner. Does the bot malfunction if it has nothing to clear?

No, but only once or twice from what I remember is when it didn't clear anything despite there being stuff on the sandbox. 1033Forest (talk) 19:58, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question

Hello @1033Forest,

Are you still testing User:Sandbox to see if the bot automatically clears content? If no, please stop. Thank you. Myrealnamm (talk) 22:05, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and I'm not doing "anything wrong" by testing there; anyone (including me) is allowed to test in the user space with that sandbox as long as it doesn't disrupt other Wikipedia activity. It's not as popular as Wikipedia:Sandbox so I'm like the only user there most of the time. 1033Forest (talk) 22:08, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, thank you. Just asking!

Mass editing of sandbox pages

edit

You have made 6453 edits to English Wikipedia and, of those, 4421 have been to public sandbox and sandbox talk pages. That is 68% of your edits. Over 2/3.

This is a project to build an encyclopedia. It is not a place to engage in unproductive fooling around in sandboxes.

Please stop and focus instead on improving the encyclopedia. I hope that you stop voluntarily. Otherwise, page blocks will be required. Cullen328 (talk) 22:32, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about all that, I didn't realize all this sandbox editing with the exact same "O.P.E" message almost every single time would eventually take up over 2/3 of my edits. On this encyclopedia I usually focus on editing TV show episode lists whenever new episodes and airdates are announced, but there hasn't been any in a while and I kept doing these edits out of boredom until I was caught in the act just now. I do not want to do anything wrong or mean any harm, so I will stop posting the same message and only test something there if really needed from now on. Thanks for letting me know, I understand now. 1033Forest (talk) 23:02, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you need to conduct a legitimate sandbox test, then use your own sandbox pages, not the public ones. Cullen328 (talk) 00:49, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Got that, thanks for the response. Understood. I will use my own personal sandbox for these tests from now on. 1033Forest (talk) 01:24, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
