Removal of color coding by Month

[edit]

It seems that this edit was the date upon which the color coding by month was removed. Before this, each month had a consistent color that made it easy to navigate and find information chronologically. Why was this formatting removed? Piratesyar (talk) 23:19, 14 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello. This formatting was removed for multiple reasons. Firstly, it was done to standardize the table structure used on the page, and to match how the table was used on other "[Year] in video games' pages. Secondly, the formatting change allows for the tables to be sorted by date, using a template that requires a single column.
I also don't agree that the tables are that much less easy to navigate. Yes, color can be nice, but it's pretty easy to see where January ends, and February begins by reading the date. 13akoors (talk) 14:27, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The new table order is awful, Please return colour ~2026-13771-42 (talk) 09:58, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Re: Template swap

[edit]

Just an FYI that your apparent merge of Template:Video game gameplay into Template:Game design is causing you a great deal of unnecessary wasted time and effort. Typically we start merge discussions for that around here and have it done by a bot rather than doing it manually over numerous pages. Note that I'm not necessarily disagreeing with it, but you are not going about it the right way and if people disagree with it, it will be an equally large amount of time and effort to change it back. If you have not replaced every instance of it, I'd recommend stopping the manual swapping and starting a merge discussion immediately. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:05, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Zxcvbnm: A merge is probably not the right term in this context. It's more that I'm going through every page that uses this template and swapping them with other templates. As far as I'm aware, there is no policies against doing it this way. Additionally, I'm not sure the "right way" you mention would be helpful here, since I've had to swap this template out with about 4 other templates, since it's a weird conglomeration of topics from many other templates, so a direct swap with a bot wouldn't really give the same effect.
All that to say, there is currently only 1 page left that this template is linked to, and then I planned to put it up for deletion anyways. So it's probably moot at this point.
Plus, I do this while video editing, so I'm fine with the completely manual process. 13akoors (talk) 18:40, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I mean, in that case, the proper thing to do would be to put it up for deletion while it's on as many pages as possible, so people can see the notice. If you specify it be replaced in the AfD, then that aspect can still be done by a bot. Given that there is still the chance that the template will be kept, replacing it now is putting the cart before the horse, so to speak. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 19:05, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
