edit

  Hello, I'm Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300. I noticed that you recently removed content from Flag of South Africa without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.   Please do not remove information from articles, as you did to Flag of South Africa. Wikipedia is not censored, and content is not removed on the sole grounds of perceived offensiveness. Please discuss this issue on the article's talk page to reach consensus rather than continuing to remove the disputed material. If the content in question involves images, you also have the option to configure Wikipedia to hide the images that you may find offensive. Thank you. If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

  Please stop. If you continue to censor or remove encyclopedic content based on the fact that it is offensive to some readers, as you did at Flag of South Africa, you may be blocked from editing. Wikipedia is not censored, and attempts to censor encyclopedic content will be regarded as vandalism. AntiDionysius (talk) 16:11, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you continue to edit the addition it would mean that you are in violation of the Equity Court ruling on the display of such content. The content displayed is illegal. Are you saying that users are allowed to write content that is illegal? Because there is a fine line between something being offensive vs illegal in terms of the law. 165.73.70.248 (talk) 16:15, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Content being illegal in one country in the world is not grounds for its removal from Wikipedia. AntiDionysius (talk) 16:16, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
(Unless that country is the United States, where Wikipedia's servers are and the Wikimedia foundation is registered). AntiDionysius (talk) 16:16, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Then write about the US in the US, don't spread illegal content. Child pornography, case in point. It's not about where its stored, it is about the legality of the content being displayed.
This is the last warning, if you continue to spread a flag that incites genocide in South Africa, I will need to report this and take it further. 165.73.70.248 (talk) 16:21, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Child pornography is illegal in the United States. Display of the apartheid South African flag is not. You can report it all you want. If you report it to Wikipedia's administrators, you will not get anywhere, because you are the one who is failing to understand Wikipedia policy. If you report it to the South African authorities, nothing will happen because neither I nor Wikipedia are located in South Africa. AntiDionysius (talk) 16:24, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
/* 1928–1994 */ Hate Speech: Wikipedia's policy on hate speech is in line with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, which explicitly prohibit the promotion of hate speech. The display of this flag as the main article heading results in Search engines associating this flag as the current and main flag in South Africa. The content is considered Hate Speech and is in violation of Wikipedia Policy. 165.73.70.248 (talk) 16:28, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Advocacy of apartheid would indeed be hate speech. Discussing the factual issue of historical apartheid is not. If that were true, we would also have to scrub our pages on Nazi Germany, slavery in the United States, the Armenian genocide etc. You'll notice that hasn't happened. Again, feel free to report it if you'd like. You won't get anywhere. AntiDionysius (talk) 16:31, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

  You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Flag of South Africa. — Moriwen (talk) 16:27, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

  You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. AntiDionysius (talk) 14:32, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
