edit

Hello, I'm Skynxnex. I noticed that you recently removed content from The center for teaching and learning without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Redirects are deleted via either the WP:CSD or WP:RFD process, for future reference. Skynxnex (talk) 17:17, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've done so at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 September 30#The center for teaching and learning. Skynxnex (talk) 17:24, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello Skynxnex. I was trying to start a school page for the school my daughter is attending, the Center For Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb, ME. I used a school template and added the necessary information to get the ball rolling on the creation of the page, but for some reason multiple users have taken an interest in restoring the redirect to Edgecomb, ME. The school is in Edgecomb, ME, so I get the redirect but the name of the school in the redirect is not proper/capitalized so I wanted to correct that.
I'm no expert at creating pages, but I wanted to be as detailed and accurate as possible with The Center For Teaching and Learning...I'll play in my sandbox until I get a working model/code and implement it when I get it looking the way I want. Thanks for reaching out. 207Engineering (talk) 19:14, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia.
I'll try to be brief and hope to clear up a few things:
  1. Blanking a redirect (or article) in the "article space" (where normal articles live) is not considered the acceptable way to move forward replacing/expanding them.
  2. Wikipedia is case sensitive for article titles. If this school should have an article (I'll get to that later), it would be at either The Center for Teaching and Learning or Center for Teaching and Learning (you'd have to read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (definite or indefinite article at beginning of name) to figure out which one meets our naming conventions for this school)
  3. Not all schools are WP:Notable (which is the primary way we decide if a subject should have an article). Other paces to read to figure out if this school is notable can be: Help:Your first article, WP:NSCHOOL, and WP:GNG
  4. Looking at https://c-t-l.org/about/history, I agree this school is much more likely to be notable than any random K-8 school but don't have any opinion on it yet. Consider reading about WP:Articles for creation and using that process to draft and then perhaps submit for publication an article. That also has the advantage of having other experienced editors evaluating the title and they will make sure to move it correctly into our article space.
Thanks and feel free to WP:PING me here if you have more general questions or asking at the WP:Teahouse. Thanks and happy editing. Skynxnex (talk) 19:34, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Roger that, thanks for the information, I'll have to read through it a few times to understand it fully. Indeed, the school has been active since 1990, with some notable alumni and has just won the "Best Private Elementary School in Maine" distinction. Thanks for the advice and again I'll have to take it on as a bit of an extracirricular project at this point to get the page up and running. 207Engineering (talk) 19:48, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Cool. I don't share all of that above to scare you but to make sure you understand how things may happen here. (WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES talks about that some but there's a lot of history of schools that the English Wikipedia doesn't consider notable (which again is a term of art and not really any assessment about the quality or importance of the thing) being made and deleted.) I hope you'll also consider working (only as much as you enjoy doing) in some other areas of Wikipedia so you feel more comfortable and get a better handle on things.
