You are welcome to continue editing without logging in, but you may want to consider creating an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (208.76.111.243) is used to identify you instead.
In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}}
before the question on this page. Again, welcome! Tutelary (talk) 16:25, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, that's very nice of you. 208.76.111.243 (talk) 22:32, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
- You seem to know some interesting people and places around here but I see no history. I was just wondering if you have an account? Chillum 23:25, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
ANI
editI started an ANI about you. [1] Lightbreather (talk) 00:40, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
August 2014

. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Chillum 06:22, 9 August 2014 (UTC)- If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
Any admin is welcome to alter/reverse this block without consulting me, just ping me here to let me know. Please keep in mind that this account seems to exist solely to harass Lightbreather. They also stated that they don't have an account when they clearly are very much aware of Wikipedia's inner workings such as arbcom cases and Lightbreather's history.
As such I think they are in violation of WP:SOCK which says: Editors who are not logged in must not actively try to deceive other editors, such as by directly saying that they do not have an account or by using the session for the inappropriate uses of alternate accounts listed earlier in this policy. Chillum 06:25, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
By the way Mr. 243 I have turned on the "Prevent logged-in users from editing from this IP address" option on the block. If you are telling the truth about not having an account then this should not make a difference. If you are lying and do have an account then that will be blocked too. Chillum 06:27, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Chillum:, you do realize that all of Wikipedia's inner workings, the edit summaries, the way to sign your posts, guidelines, talk page guidelines, WP:SOCK, WP:SPI can be figured out just by lurking for a long period of time? Sure, it can also be gained by editing, but just by viewing and lurking a noticeboard for a long period of time they can also be learned though not all at once. Just because an IP is fully acknowledgable about processes does not make them a sock. Here is another IP that does the same thing, participates in discussions, signs their posts, and even contributes to noticeboards. Are you going to block them too? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:80.193.191.143 Tutelary (talk) 13:26, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- I'll concur that you can entirely learn the ins and outs of this place simply from lurking like I've mostly done over the years. I simply don't have the time to edit in the areas I'd like to due to them being contentious and the protracted battles that ensue. But I still pop on a couple times a day to see what's happening in those areas and at the drama boards. And now this whole civility/sexism blow up has compelled me to give my two cents here or there. But carefully. And the above (in my opinion bad) block is the reason why. Itchy trigger fingers abound. There was no confirmed policy reason for that block. Certainly not harassment. How many times has the user who brought the IP to ANI claimed harassment in the last few months? LB has been on every board, a million talk pages, and now Twitter. You draw that much attention to yourself you have to expect people are going to start watching your contribs and respond to your assertions about the whole civility debate. I've wanted to myself but with my paltry editing history and lack of friends here I doubt a trip to ANI, no matter how superfluous the charge, would go my way in the current climate. I don't even disagree that this IP is quite likely a logged out user but there's no proof yet, and if answering somebody's posts in a forum like Jimbo's talk page, where he asked for debate, is harassment then that's a heavy chilling effect right there. You're only going to get answers from the regulars around here as opposed to the wider community that you're trying to reach and grow. Capeo (talk) 15:11, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- The fact that this IP has done nothing but follow around and comment on Lightbreather tells me that he has an interactive history, not just a lurking on. If all he did was show demonstration of knowledge I would not have blocked. Block summaries and only hold so much so I did not mention the harassment in the block log, I have however documented it on this talk page. Chillum 17:52, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Gentlepersons
edit@Capeo:, @Tutelary:, @Betafive: - Thank you all for your thoughtful remarks here and at WP:ANI. I'm certain that if it wasn't for your tactful words I would have had the unpleasant surprise of finding myself blocked this evening instead of given the benefit of the doubt. You are all very kind. 208.76.111.243 (talk) 02:57, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Unblocked
editSince you have not been disruptive since my last warning to you I am reversing this block. The block was based on the history of your behavior in general and not the behavior since I warned you. In hindsight a block then would have made more sense than a warning but I did give a warning and you did say you would leave LB alone so I will reverse your block.
It is possible that the autoblock on this IP may have affected any account you tried to log into, if this has happened then just put up an unblock request pointing to this page. Chillum 18:10, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
