Fatima Al Fihri was the daughter of wealthy trade merchant Mohammad Al-Fihri. Her birth date is unknown, though she died in 880 A.D. Her family migrated from Kairoun, Tunisia to Fes, Morocco. She was born into a very prestigious, well-known family, and was well educated and rich. She and her sister Mariam Al-Fihri inherited a large fortune from her father. Both girls vowed to spend their inheritance to benefit the community. While her sister decided to build the grand mosque Al-Andalus, Fatima set out to build the first degree granting university in the world still existing today. In 859 Fatima Al-Fihri completed the construction of the University of Qarawiyyin in Fes, Morocco. It became a major advanced learning institution in medieval times. This was a very special and complex school as it taught many subjects for that time period. Subjects taught include grammar, medicine, mathematics, chemistry, history, and many more. The school was actually for both genders and welcomed non-Muslims as well.

Centuries have passed since the university was built. Back then people went to others houses or had private instructors to get an education. This university started the entire concept of what we call today “school”. What she did provided us with a higher form of education we need to be successful and have the qualifications needed for a job. Professions such as doctors, lawyers, and engineers, which are jobs that help provide the essential needs of a community

Seeking knowledge was so close to Muslims heart, because the Quran encourage them to seek knowledge with Observation and reflection. Which means that was a high education was thought in Mosques, Hospital, observatories and scientists houses that were spread out in the entire Islamic world plus schools. There is an interlacement between the school education and university education and both of them started in mosque. Also the word of university is the feminine of Mosque therefore, the place of the religion and the high education were staked together and there is no instance for that in any cultures or other languages. Some Mosques were the oldest in the world, which currently still the same way affiliatedmosques as Al krawiyin and Azhar still until today working after more than thousand year of their foundation. From the biggest and luxury university in the Mosques is the university of Al krawiyin located in Morocco especially in the city of Fes. Pious woman scientist Fatima Alfihria was the founder of this university during the rule of Idrisids on 859. After she Inherited a lot of Money from her wealthy father, she decided to spend all her money that she gained from her father to build a mosques and a university that match the community of Fes. And she required that the building material must take from the land site itself. Moreover, she started her fasting at the same time when they started building the Project. However, she didn’t stop there by sponsoring the project but she supervised the construction herself. Fatima Alfihria want to offer to the community of Fes a Center of education, the development of the Mosque of Al karawiyin was so fast as other Luxury Mosques and turns to a place of Islamic education and scientific debates. The objects that the students are taking were gradually grown. Especially, Natural Sciences. and became the famous describing it as the first university ever. The university was well build and maintained especially, the Astronomical tools. The astrolabe was in the timing room also clocks, and other tools to calculate the time. As the students were studying the Quran, science, law, poems, logique, calculation, geography, Medicine and astronomy. Therefore, that is why the diversity of objects and the quality of teaching it attracts the scientists and the students from the entire word. Soon after the university took a new rule and system regulation as of today’s university because it out of its capacity to welcome all of the students at ones. But the conditions back then to be one of the students include that you have to know the whole Quran and reading by heart, strong Arabic communication plus general knowledge. The universities that was affiliated with the Mosque weren’t only welcome the local the students but from each part of this world. The abbasi Universities in Bagdad welcomed students from Levant and Persia and also India. So, the students had offered free rooms which include library, kitchen and shower room for each individual in on hand. Alkarawiyin University doesn’t have to pay the enrollment fee but they used to have donations as Money for their food and place to live. All this came from wealthy people and the government. The students lived in buildings of two or three floors and supported between sixty to one hundred and fifty students. Also in these universities as other luxury universities had an exceptional library had a lot of books and most them are donations. The courses were so difficult espacially the Medicine course which students used to have a hard time with it as the same way In today’s universities. The student not allowed to practice his or her job as a doctor when he or she got low grade and on that case they wont be qualify for it. With this system the Muslims build their high educations, they put the acceptable exams, the final exams, science degrees, education meetings, donations for education, and accepted students from different part of this world. Actually, there is match for the Instructional measures in today’s universities.
