Please help me with...

I am trying to let someone know about a small but obvious error in an article. The error is on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Intelligence_Community#Members

In the first line of this article, it states that, "The United States Intelligence Community (IC) is a federation of 17 separate United States government intelligence agencies..."

This is not accurate. It is comprised of 16 separate agencies which are all subordinate to one overarching agency, The Department of National Intelligence. This is self-evident if the introduction paragraph is read carefully, and is further evidenced by examining the list of "Member Agencies" that comprise the IC itself.

There are only 16 agencies that comprise the IC. The IC is overseen by one DEPARTMENT - the Department of National Intelligence. The DNI is not separate from any of the other 16 agencies. It is the superior to each of the other agencies.

The place to discuss this is at Talk:United States Intelligence Community, where there is already some equivocation about whether the number should be given as 17 or 16. I see your point, but if most sources use the number 17, that's what Wikipedia should do. And the DNI is the coordinator but not necessarily the "superior", since nearly all of the member organizations have their own reporting chain up through their own parent agencies. I'm sure it's a byzantine bureaucratic tangle. (I guess I should point out that DNI is the "Director of National Intelligence"; there is no such thing at this point as a "Department of National Intelligence" even though the DNI is now a cabinet position.) — jmcgnh^{(talk) (contribs)} 21:53, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
