Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions so far. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.

Drmies, Melcous, this could benefit from your attentions. I've removed a few external links, and more remain. This isn't the most egregious autobiography, but it has apparently been overseen by COI accounts for years, so further clean up and watchlisting are in order. Thank you very much for the observation, So sorry about that. Actually, I am still working on being a better editor. I think I have a good understanding of what is promotionional content on Do2dtun. I wish to fix it too, what do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olakunle Rufai (talkcontribs) 19:41, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

  • It is a car wreck--I don't think you can fix it. Almost the entire article is promotional in tone, and it always has been. Your edits this year just made a bad situation a bit worse, so I'm hoping to get a few uninvolved veteran editors to look at this and offer assistance. Thank you, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 19:44, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

Every time the wind blows too hard here

I return to my desktop to find i have a new IP. So it is today. 2601:188:180:1481:7868:6144:7C5D:484A (talk) 21:02, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Before I start cleaning this up, can someone tell me if it's a copyright violation of [4], or if the Wiki article content pre-dates the school website. Thanks, 2601:188:180:1481:7868:6144:7C5D:484A (talk) 03:09, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

  • While I don't know if it or substantial parts of it were copied from the book source cited, I do not believe we copied from the website, but the other way around. Here's the first substantial change, turning 1926 into 1927. The external site says 1927. We see subsequent changes reflected in the external site, too. ([5], [6], [7], et al.) There's also the fact that redlinks in the external site are direct links to Wikipedia, which is strongly suggestive of their taking the material from us. For me, some of the best clues are when other editors make changes that wind up in the external site, and we see that here: [8], [9]. These kinds of changes make me pretty confident in saying that they copied from us. :) I should make a note of this at thetalk page, unless you want to, 2601...484A? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 02:07, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

SALA Festival

Hi! I'm curious as to why you think these prizes and winners are not notable. Thanks Uberlibris (talk) 10:40, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi, Uberlibris, it may be more relevant to ask what makes the prizes and awardees notable. That's an ocean of red links you added to the article (WP:WTAF), and with the possible exception of one or two marquee prizes, it's doubtful that the honors merit mention, especially when many are named after local sponsors--that gives the impression that this is somehow promoting non notable agencies as well, though that surely wasn't the intent. As an example, the National Academy of Design long held annual exhibitions, and many of the artists who exhibited and won awards were notable, but to list the annuals and prize winners would be WP:LISTCRUFT. That's what's happened at SALA, with far less prominent personalities. By the way, the management doesn't seem notable for encylopedic inclusion, either. Cheers, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:07, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
    • Another question: you've been pretty transparent re: WP:COI, and that you're editing as a paid contributor. Does that also apply to your edits at SALA? 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:15, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
      • Hi! Thanks for the tip on the management - I'm trying to improve this article after someone went in and added a lot of unsourced information. I'm also trying to improve it as part of a larger project to address the lack of information on South Australian contemporary art using the collection of the library I work in.. I will be adding articles for the redlinks, but this is very much a work-in-progress. I listed the prizes as they are evidence of notability for contemporary artists but I take your point about the non-marquee prizes. As for WP:COI, I don't work for SALA but edit and write Wikipedia articles on South Australian art as part of my duties as an art librarian. Where the article is specifically about my employer or one of our staff and graduates, then yes, WP:COI applies and I put that in the talk page. Otherwise I believe it falls within the Wikipedia:GLAM/Contribute exception about writing and editing using materials in my employer's collection. I consider myself to still be a novice editor and therefore still learning. Hence my question re notability as determining whether a living artist is notable or not is not easy. Uberlibris (talk) 05:37, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
        • A very good explanation re: your edits, Uberlibris; you've made substantial contributions here. Individual notability, as it pertains to artists, is no different than for anyone else. You've written some credible biographies, so you probably know that WP:BIO and WP:CREATIVE are the most relevant guidelines. A case can be made, when listing a handful of red link names within an article, that the figures are prominent, and merit stand alone articles in the very near future. But using an article as a repository for red links is not advisable. Among other things, it's an aesthetic eyesore. In this case, at SALA, I'd venture that most all the prizes and recipients fail notability--it's content that's appropriate for an organization's publications, but not so much for a general encyclopedia.
        • To take one year you've added as an example: The Advertiser Contemporary Art Prize, Country Arts SA Breaking Ground Award, Adelaide Review Outsider Artist Award, Adelaide Review, Young Artist Award, Centre for Creative Photography Latent Image Award, Centennial Park Environment Award, The City Rural Emerging Artist Award, City of Unley Active Ageing Award, Don Dunstan Foundation Award and OZ Minerals Copper Sculpture Awards are minor honors bestowed in a regional festival. Thank you, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:46, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
          • Hello again. I've updated the article, taking into account most of your comments. I have removed the red links as I agree that they are not aesthetically pleasing but would have preferred to leave them as red links can encourage other editors to get involved. I have linked to their bios in Design and Art Australia Online (DAAO) where they exist. Not all of them have bios there as I know that the organisation tasked with updating DAAO with South Australian information has not been able to keep it up to date due to staffing shortages. I have deleted the majority of prizes but left those whose sponsors have been deemed notable (i.e. they themselves have Wikipedia articles). I have also tried to tone down the promotional language. Kind regards, Uberlibris (talk) 01:56, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey Drmies or Melcous, here's one for when you've got nothing else to do. It could use a copyright check, but even without that, it's a slippery piece. Hard to parse factual from promotional. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 00:02, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Anonymous users from this IP address have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring and violating the three-revert rule.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Glen 14:32, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
If this is a shared IP address and you are an uninvolved editor with a registered account, you may continue to edit by logging in.
Your edits to the page remain intact at this time however edit warring is not the solution. In future please take to talk page or directly with editor in question. I'm happy to review if you cease reverting and discuss your changes. Glen 14:42, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Glen, the edits in question were undoubtedly exempt from 3RR per WP:3RRNO. I’d ask you to confiding lifting this block (or failing a response in a few hours, I’ll lift it since the block is only 24 hours...) TonyBallioni (talk) 15:00, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Glen, that's an awful response, especially given the reversions by AryanTheArticleArtist (talk · contribs), which were hasty at best and incompetent at worst. The unsourced content I removed multiple times:
  • While Blankfein's illustrious career has earned praise in the heydays of Goldman Sachs, particularly when Goldman Sachs was doing so well compared to other Wall Street banks that are reeling from the aftermath of Financial crisis of 2007–2008 and Greek government-debt crisis, the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal comes as a revelation to investors in Wall Street and the world that nobody is God; if it is too good to be true, it is indeed too good to be true. Money, wealth and competitive advantage cannot be earned out of the proverbial thin air.
That's not only original research, without sources it's arguably a BLP violation. After the block lapses I'll open a thread at ANI. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:54, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Upon review I've reversed the block. Please remember not to edit war however. Talk to the editor in question. Thanks and apologies. Glen 15:07, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Hagiography written by the artist's son. Nary a legitimate claim to notability, and I'm finding very little online. At the very least this can be stubified--any thoughts on AfD worthiness? Thanks, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:13, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

As far as this goes [14], Ritchie333, the user has adopted so many evasive accounts to the same broad purpose--deleting sourced content and adding original research re: movie releases--that one doesn't know where to begin. I'd suggest SPI and protection of multiple articles. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 13:04, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Indeed; however I assume the filer has a better idea of which SPI case to log it under, I haven't got a scooby doo. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:05, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
JFL43 (talk · contribs) may be the mother ship. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 13:06, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Okay. I am terminally clueless at how to contribute to sockpuppetry cases (having filed maybe two in my entire editing career and closed about zero) - hopefully somebody else will have an idea. Somebody like TonyBallioni should be able to deal with this. If this is an ongoing and regular problem, consider filing a report at WP:LTA and refer to it in subsequent reports. Ritchie333 Manu0005 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) is the same person as the new account on that page. I haven’t looked to JFL43 myself, but the CU log has them in a different country than these two. I didn’t dig too deeply, but the recent socks in that history appear to be on a different device in a different area of the same country. I’ll let you decide if you want to block. Three promotional COI articles, all saying the same thing

Thoughts from experienced colleagues will be appreciated. I can also take this to the BLP board. But this is vanity threefold. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:16, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

I glanced at the articles. It would be a bit of a project, but I would redirect the individual articles to the duo article, copying in any noteworthy material about each person to the joint article. Then the hardest part, cleaning up the joint article, which looks like it was written by several 3-year-olds acting independently. As an aside, it's not a good idea to slap COI tags on articles if you don't have a particular editor in mind. BTW, I ain't gonna do any of this.  --Bbb23 (talk) 16:42, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, Bbb23. Agreed re: COI tags; V.D.T.T. (talk · contribs) was very much the particular editor, though subsequently there may have been other accounts. And special thanks to Serial Number 54129 for handling the redirects and copy editing so efficiently. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:58, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
