Conflict of interest warning

edit

Hello. You appear to have a conflict of interest, since you are editing Wikipedia from an IP address on public record as belonging to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce while editing an article on its president and chief executive officer.

If you are editing Wikipedia for commercial purposes this isn't necessarily a problem, but if this is so, you may need to immediately file a disclosure statement explaining any conflict of interest to ensure transparency if appropriate-this is indeed a legal requirement that you have already agreed to under section 4 of the Wikimedia terms of service, which both your organisation and you personally could face legal action for failing to comply with. Here's an example of what a disclosure statement looks like. You should also ensure that all your edits are factual and could not be considered in any way promotional, and are backed up by citations to reliable sources demonstrating them to be true. In general, if you are editing Wikipedia on your organisation, it's best to request an edit to get input from experienced contributors.

In addition, note that almost all edits to Wikipedia are on-the-record public actions, so could be examined by journalists, writers on Wikipedia's contributor newsletter, or indeed absolutely anybody seeking to examine your organisation's work. You may think it best to contact your manager to check that you have the authority to represent your organisation on Wikipedia.

Finally, you appear to be making edits using misleading edit summaries such as "Edited out sensitive information". If this is genuinely true, take it to revision deletion, but this does not inspire confidence in your actions.

A formal statement of Wikipedia's conflict of interest principles is listed below.

  Hello, 38.110.68.195. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Rocco Rossi, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.
