New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

edit

Hello 3PPYB6/Archives,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

… one year ago, I had made what may have been the biggest mistake in my whole entire wiki-career.
One year later, I am undergoing inactivity as I now am being consumed by other things in life.
What's the lesson to be learned here? Take things slowly—don't let your curiosity kill you.
Hopefully I will avoid such mistakes again.3PPYB6 (T / C / L)18:45, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Ali Harbi Ali

edit

Hello, 3PPYB6. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Ali Harbi Ali".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Hello. I hope this message meets you well. So positively review this page Anita Osikweme Osikhena. Amaekuma (talk) 16:35, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Amaekuma – I've reviewed the page. So far it looks good! There is, however, a conflict regarding that article and another draft covering the same subject, Draft:Aniitablonde. In the worst-case scenario we may have to perform a history merge on it. Thanks for your creation!3PPYB6 (T / C / L)00:15, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Whoopsies, haha! Looks like I got my policies and guidelines wrong (it happens)! It looks like it's an accidental content fork instead.3PPYB6 (T / C / L)00:17, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Lol. We are all human, so we are all allowed to make mistakes.
About the double pages on the same subject, I’ve handled it by creating a redirect. Thanks for your time Amaekuma (talk) 06:06, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I hope you’re doing well. Do review this page Kelechi Onuzurike. Cheers. Amaekuma (talk) 09:19, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Amaekuma – somebody else has already beaten me to reviewing, but nonetheless I decided to pitch in anyway and fix a few errors. Thanks!3PPYB6 (T / C / L)13:27, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello. It's great to be in touch again, I hope you’re having a great day. Do review Adetola Nola. Cheers. Amaekuma (talk) 20:37, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

UtherSRG, thanks for letting me know. When it is removed back to article space I will patrol it again (if it meets notability/tone/verifiability/copyright standards).3PPYB6 (T / C / L)13:33, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

  Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

  Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
