Welcome!
Hi there! Welcome to Wikipedia! This is Akamad from the IRC channel. I hope you like it here and stick around. If you want, you can drop us a note at Wikipedia:New user log to introduce yourself.
A few tips before you start doing a lot of editing:
- A few basic rules: Try to write from a neutral point of view, be bold in editing pages, and use Wikiquette.
- A handy page for newcomers is the welcome page. The Wikipedia tutorial also gives a lot of basic info that will help get you oriented on Wikipedia. If you have any other questions about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or Wikipedia:Where to ask a question.
- When you post something on a talk/discussion page, you can sign your name by using three tildes (" ~~~ ") for your username and four (" ~~~~ ") for your username and a timestamp.
- Remember to provide an edit summary when editing.
- If you ever find yourself with nothing to do on Wikipedia, have a look at the Community Portal, you'll find that there's always something happening.
If you have any questions, comments, or just want to say hi, don't hesitate to write to me on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Happy editing and have a great day! :-) Akamad 03:15, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about that...
- I just had to be sure that some soul on the Internet would care about the page. Thanks for the reversion. Danny Lilithborne 04:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Edit summaries
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.
Furthermore, take a look at the bottom of my user page for some useful vandal-warning templates. This will save you time as an RC patroller, and it will generalize your warnings to what the community consensus has decided they should be. Thanks for the contributions, though, and please don't hesitate to ask me anything at any time. JHMM13 (T | C) 05:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey there--my changes weren't vandalism, but simply expanding the article with new information. It's all referenced. Blueboy96 06:01, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, 5aret. Everyone makes mistakes early on, but you can learn from them. Before you revert a page, you should make sure that it is vandalism. Furthermore, when you add a comment to a user's talk page, add it to the bottom of the page and not to the top. Thanks, and please read some of the information on vandalism. Also, don't hesitate to ask me questions when you are unsure of how to proceed in any situation. I will most likely get back to you immediately, or if I am not online, then within a day or so. JHMM13 (T | C) 06:07, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- p.s. I just realized you blanked a part of your talk page. It is considered bad form to blank the contents of your Talk page. The contents should be left intact so that other users may see any issues being discussed. This prevents them from having to cover the issue again or seeing any resolutions that have been reached. When a Talk page gets too long, it can be archived, but it shoud never be deleted permanently. This doesn't apply to vandalism, of course. Peace. :-) JHMM13 (T | C) 06:07, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
I have read all of the vandilism articles. I know what vandilism is. Dont worry about that. I dont understand how you can say you expanded an article when you just deleted most of it. 5aret 06:11, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Please don't think I was implying that you are ignorant; I am only trying to help you get acclimated to the tough restrictions of CVU activities as I wish someone had done for me early on. The article in question had an {{unreferenced}} tag on it. Blueboy96 found a respectable article on the subject and rewrote a lot of the information based on that article in accordance with Wikipedia's "no original research" policy. If you disagree with the reliability of the source or the paraphrasing he did on Wikipedia with reference to that information, then please discuss it on the talk page of the article. Remember, I completely understand if you make mistakes early on, but realize that I am here to help you become a good member of CVU or any other part of Wikipedia. Thanks, JHMM13 (T | C) 06:24, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Ok thanks. Well I will be back later. 5aret 06:28, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Blanking
If I blanked a page, it was accidental. I was fixing vandalism in the history section of the Ford article. I am relatively new to Wikipedia. Sorry for the inconvenience. L Ecker 06:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC) L Ecker
- Hey, 5aret. The vandalism in question was done by 70.125.0.78. This user reverted the vandalism. I'm sorry I'm hounding your talk page like this, but you really need to be more careful with your warnings to other users and your reversions as your revert actually put the vandalism back on the page (even though you did it accidentally). JHMM13 (T | C) 06:33, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'd really like to second this. I don't think my comment was taken very seriously, in being deleted. 5aret, you should try to be more careful and pay more attention to the details, rather than making a lot of edits which are not helpful. I almost wonder if you're trolling given the userbox about doing no wrong. --Flata 06:37, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Hey, those boxes are not to be taken seriously. No one is perfect. 5aret 19:17, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
"Freethinking" blanking
I tried to see if I could just remove the article altogether by deleting everything. Nor did I know there was another way to do it. Another Wikipedian and I were discussing the page and he pointed out that "freethinking" is just skepticism under another name. Thus there's no need for the article. -Usernamefortonyd 19:22, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Okay. Please see wikipedias deletion policy. Thank you.5aret 19:27, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Can you please tell me where I can find a list of the kind of icons that you use in your profile? -Usernamefortonyd
Sure.You mean userboxes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Userboxes#Existing_Userboxes 5aret 19:58, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. -Usernamefortonyd
Hi
Are you kidding? Considering all the crazy stuff Ive seen in there, the things I put in there are mild. Ive read numerous times that with the exception of really nasty swearing, dumping loads of text, or slander there is no vandalism of the sandbox.
Respectfully,Shut Up and Get Me a Beer! 19:35, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Marriage
You say a marriage consists of one man and one woman. Do lots of people disagree and say some marriages consist of two men and one woman or two women and one man?? Georgia guy 19:38, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Regarding various userpages
This is regarding the userpage of Georgia Guy and Shut up and get me a Beer!. Please don't edit their userpages, but use the talkpage instead. I also saw you warned Shut up... about adding nonsense to the sandbox. This is allowed, and the sandbox is automaticly emptied every 12th hour. Bjelleklang - talk 22:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Your question about templates
I don't know if the first answer on the help desk page was what you were looking for or not. If what were were asking about was example pages, not Wikipedia templates for stuff like deletions you might want to go back and look at my answer, If not, I apologize for disturbing you.--◀Pucktalk▶ 22:17, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
No you answered my question. Thank you! Happy editing, 5aret 22:19, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Blanking your Talk page
It is considered very poor form to remove user comments from your talk page. Many users have expressed similar views on your page, and yet you have continued to remove them even after being cautioned on doing so in the past. 128.208.46.117 04:21, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
I guess it would be considered even worse form to blank a notice about blanking your talk page. 128.208.46.117
Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, 5aret/Archive 1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!
Age
Yes, I am in fact 13. Thanks for the compliment in the sense that I don't edit like one. Sean (talk || contribs| esperanza)) 23:12, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
Come and vote your mind
Dear Christian friend,
I saw you on the list of Christian Wikipedians and wanted to let you know about something. The other day, someone nominated 12 Christian biography entries for deletion! They include a Christian university list of people (not unlike 68 other lists like it)[1], presidents of universities, and authors of many books.
Since that time, people have been voting. Please take this message as a call to vote; not a call to vote a certain way. I respect you and your ability to come, read the entry, and make a wise decision. In other words, I’m not vote stacking or campaigning; simply letting you know something that you’d probably like to know.
By the way, my friend recently started an organization called Wiki4Christ. If you’d like to join a network of Christians with a purpose on Wikipedia, please see the site!

An Esperanzial note
As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Another Esperanzial note...
Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,
