Steve Davis
editThe article is currently going under assessment for featured article status, where it was brought up that there was not a suitable reliable source for this event. Right now you are just continually adding a copyright violation video and saying that it covers that he won the event. The channel on YouTube isn't a reliable source, and has no sources that I can find (yes I have checked for newspaper sources). You can see the full conversation at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Steve Davis/archive1, in the comments made by BennyOnTheLoose. But the tournament actually existed. We can't just say oh that tournament didn't take place at all. A Eurosport video is available and good enough to use as a source as it he shows him winning the title with commentary ?. I really don't think Eurosport are lying about the result do you ?. Lots of olden day tournaments have no sources and are included. Surely all those events won't be removed or we will have none. I know Benny or someone found an article on this result previously. I sent him a message there to see if he can dig it out. Kind Regards 80.233.81.94 (talk) 14:42, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- It was specifically BennyOnTheLoose that raised that there was no sourcing. The video you linked too is not published by Eurosport. It may be a video of the Eurosport broadcast, but that doesn't make it reliable.
It doesn't matter is is a Eurosport broadcast how can it not be reliable ?. I don't really get these comments on here at times. The event took place. Did you actually know it was Barry Hearn commentating on the final for Eurosport as it was a Matchroom event. There is no argument to say this event did not take place or was not a professional event. 80.233.81.94 (talk) 15:13, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
I found an article written by Nigej. In the Wikipedia Project Snooker Archive 7. Would you believe. It is dated 3 May 2017 with a time of 19.45 pm. Nigej wrote "Davis confirmed he would play in a minor tournament promoted by Barry Hearn, his manager. The Times for 4 September 1989 simply has the score. Hong Kong Tournament final Steve Davis beat Alex Higgins 6-3 80.233.81.94 (talk) 15:37, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- If we have the Times source, then it's fine. We don't generally cite to the broadcast as it's no longer verifiable. Any ideas on a page number or anything? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:05, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
