The Mikado

edit

I'd rather keep discussion of changes to the article on the article's Talk page, but I just wanted to note here that I very carefully considered your edits, most of which I thought very helpful and retained. Others I felt were less clear to an international audience than the current expression. As an American who has edited mostly British articles here for eight years, several of which I have helped to promote to WP:Featured Article class, I think I can claim that there are few editors on Wikipedia who are more sensitive to the difference between British and American grammar than me. For example, I have fought hard for American articles to use the spelling "theatre" with respect to the art form, which I have argued is *correct* in all English-speaking countries, even though American English generally prefers "theater", and so "theatre" should be used universally to lend some consistency across the theatre articles in the encyclopedia. I understand exactly what you are saying, but I think that what you did, in a couple of instances, was less clear to most of our readers, while other things you did resulted in better and clearer expression, and so I have retained them. In any case, if you disagree with particular edits, please feel free open a discussion about them on the Talk page, so that all the editors who work on that page can contribute. That is what the WP:BRD cycle suggests: You Boldly changed the expression that was there; I Reverted in part; and if you disagree, then the next step is to Discuss any disagreements on the Talk page.
