Thanks for your message.
I am looking at the how to cite your reference page and I need some help.
I am using mostly website/website articles/downloaded pdfs as my references. I've included them in the body of my article though. I can include them as general references at the bottom of the page but then I won't have any footnotes.
also, how does the contents box come up at the top of the article. Is that automatic if you have several headlines?
Thanks. 87xy5zf02 (talk) 08:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello,
the way to do inline references is to stick <ref>http://test.com/director/test.pdf description of reference</ref> after the sentence you want to have a footnote for. then at the bottom of the page put in this:
==References==
<references/>
then all the footnotes will appear at that point. When you do links in the article it is best that the refer to Wikipedia topics rather than the external PDFs. You are correct about the table of contents. If you use enough sections with the double == name == the toc will appear. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:11, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Adoption
editI see that you ahve asked User:Ali for adoption. Looking at his talk page he is overwhelmed with requests, perhaps because he is near the top of the list. You might get more luck asking someone lower down! Any way I can help you out if you ask me questions. If you post on my talk page there is no need to use the helpme template. But this is if you need urgent help from anybody and I may not be online, anyrandombuthopefullyhepfulbody may come along to help you then. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Headings
editWhen you put a heading in your article don't use the triple quote to get bold, instead use the double equals sign like this ==heading== then the table of contents will be built. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:22, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Image
edit{{helpme}}
I am trying to upload an image. I read the help section and that was very helpful. But I don't know how to create an image description page. say I download the image from a website, how and where do I source that? what about copyright tags?
Thanks 87xy5zf02 (talk) 03:18, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- You have to very careful taking a picture off another web site. The other web site will have to have some text indicating th picture has a free copyright - ie public domain cc-by cc-by-sa. Otherwise we have to assume the picture is not free. If you answer all the questions at the image upload page it should make a description. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:54, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
If it is your image then describe how you mae it, eg photograph, and pick the option to say made by you. On the left of your web page should be an Upload file or Wikipedia:Upload that you click. If you have the picture in your computer and you own copyright you are ready to go now! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:41, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
image caption

I have loaded the image! Yeah! Now I am trying to format my caption so all new bolds are on a separate line sort of like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joi_Ito
How do I do that? 87xy5zf02 (talk) 07:50, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
That one uses an infobox that I have pasted here with and edit to include your image: Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:58, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
