"Page locking"
editRegarding your edit summary for this edit, your mentioned outcome is not what will happen. Instead, if you intentionally try to "lock" the article, I'll just ask for you to be blocked for edit warring. Talk about the issue on the talk page. Edit warring isn't allowed. I've already left a message for Joefaust not to try to own the article. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:18, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
On building the article on Paragliding with sport focus
editFFD 88xxx, you have today deleted on-topic references. It is objective and noteworthy to mention that the PDMC is a noteworthy controvesy in the sport paragliding world. For you to keep deleting such reference works is showing a POV that is less than what sport paragliding is about. What is it that you cannot seem to recognize that the PDMC controversy exists? FFD 88xxxx, the possessive is "its" and the contraction of "it is" is "it's". The change you made on that will be changed to the correct form. Joefaust (talk) 00:07, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
FFD 88xxx, you have deleted a referece that paragliding was also a natural progress of parachuting, which it was. Bot Jalbert and Barish fully were involved with parachuting matters. Barish's patents and work in NASA brought him to try his patented wing type in the foot launching of his advance governable parachte. His work before and after surrounded drag devices and parachutes. That the parachute got to a point to glide better and better was the natural progression from the Jalbert and Barish governable parachute interests and technology. Both of them thorougly understood that they were working with kite systems with those tether coupling the payload to the wing. Not my POV. Mechanically the device ever has been a kite. That the mooring moves ...a hand or a jumper or a falling anchor changes nothing on the kite. How you went a full week with zero positive on an easy question of creativity and only stayed deeply publicly personally attacking is being followed by your bully tactics here in WP; your PG business interests may be in the way of lettering sport paragliding in WP be robust rather than narrow. Why you reject that there are objectie noteworthy controversies in paragliding as the PDMC is against service to the article. Hope you stop the bully tactics. Outing
editIn your last comment you said "anything Joe or Rick would like to change". Joe, of course, refers to Joefaust, no problem. Has any editor at any time openly admitted to be Rick Masters? I don't recall seeing any such claim. Any statement attempting to link editors to a real life identity when they have not done so themselves on Wikipedia is explicitly forbidden as a form of harassment called outing. Please note that just because you're pretty sure that the person is the same, or even 99.99% sure, still does not allow such claims. If no one has ever claimed to be Rick Masters, I need you to immediately remove that name from your post. If someone has self identified as Rick, then the comment can stay, although I'd like you to point out to me where that occurred. Qwyrxian (talk) 00:03, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Fair point. I incorrectly assumed you'd know I meant Rick Astley. I will have a quick look over the 2 or 3 talk pages and see where it was and change it. No complaints if I change it to RM? Oh, he is openly calling me an FFD, whatever the hell that is, and English is my native language so I know an F when I see one! 88xxxx (talk) 01:49, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Null edits
editJust to make your life easier, you can do a null edit in a single step (unlike the 2 you used on Paragliding): simply insert additional spaces (not lines) anywhere into the text other than at the beginning of a line. The mediawiki software automatically removes extra spaces when rendering the text (just edit this page to see how I wrote it and how it displays), so it won't effect anything; then you can just say in your edit summary "Null edit: explanation". October 2011
editWelcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on User:88xxxx. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. You are welcome to rephrase your comment as a civil criticism of the article. Thank you. I can well understand your frustration but Joe Faust is a real person, editing under his real name, and the kind of personal comments you make on your userpage are not permitted. Please consider removing them. Thanks! Shawn in Montreal (talk) 05:21, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I've done it for you. I never saw that addition, but it is simply unacceptable. Wikipedia has rules on civility. Unlike most places on the internet, this isn't just an option. I know your problems with Joefaust go back many years across many forums, but they can't be continued here. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:33, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- Ok. No problem chaps, frustration got the better of me I suppose. You guys must have the patience of saints to deal with this sort of twaddle regularly. 88xxxx (talk) 15:49, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Could you just please remove all mentions of User:JoeFaust from your user page? I don't see how talking about him here has any encyclopedic benefit. Qwyrxian (talk) 05:06, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- No. This user is the single reason I create this WP account, in fact he chose the name when he referred to me as 88xxxx when I edited as an IP (88.aa.bb.cc) before I created this account. Now that's encyclopaedic. Not that it has to be, of course, my user page is not part of the encyclopaedia. Likewise, the text that mentions this user has been there since well before his banning was even proposed, far less implemented, so it can hardly be construed as "grave-dancing" or "gloating". If he did not wish his user name to be referenced, he should not have created his account and then acted so controversially that it would lead to being banned. The text is not in any way impolite or uncivil, I have removed the link to the banning discussion though. FYI: I imagine this could well will be the last time user 88xxxx edits WP for, let's say, 6 months or so? 88xxxx (talk) 08:17, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- I would be pretty confident that no-one on this side of the argument will be gloating or acting inappropriately. We will simply attempt to improve the paragliding related pages. Thanks to the debate surrounding this users input we have had some reasonable suggestions as to how to improve the page. Do the admins have plans to unlock the page now the disruptive influence that caused the locking has been banned from editing it? If so, how long do these things take? I'm pretty confident that consensus will be reached by almost all existing editors (as it was before) without the need for time-intensive discussions. Maybe a quick post on your part on the paragliding talk page might help the editors out. 88xxxx (talk) 08:17, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- Done. But only because I agree with you. 88xxxx (talk) 23:54, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
