Hello there Nautical Cat! Thanks for your contributions to England's northwest. I have suggested a strategy for the WP:LANCS WikiProject you set up to incorporate Cumbrian content also. This is, by chance, inline with a discussion about lapsed county projects at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_England#Wikipedia:WikiProject_Greater_South_East. I would welcome your input at the WP:LANCS talk page. --Jza84 | Talk 15:17, 14 September 2009 (UTC) I would be happy to contribute things to the Lancashire project, but I don't have very much time to edit nowadays.AFCR (talk) 13:18, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
You beat me to it!
editJust noticed Southport gas holder. I was going to create this article a few weeks back, but never got around to it. :) Small-town hero (talk) 23:31, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I created it quite a few weeks back, but please try to improve it. I am looking forward to your contributions. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 07:43, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- If nothing else I've got some photos of the demolition. Speaking of which, has Greaves Hall been demolished now? Small-town hero (talk) 22:26, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes Greaves Hall has been demoilshed, due to it being a hazard. Look on the Wikipedia page for more infomation.--93gregsonl2 (talk) 22:28, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
And yes I would love to see some photos of it. I have some phots taken from the top. I may upload them when I have time.--93gregsonl2 (talk) 22:29, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I just noticed this edit. Anyone can assess an article from stub-class to B-class, but anything above that, such as Good Article or [[WP:FA|Featured Article], needs to undergo community assessment via WP:GAN or WP:FAC. Unfortunately, we can't assess articles ourselves as GA or FA. Also, thanks for the award on my talk page. I'll try to help out as much as I can with the project and it's good to see some enthusiasm on the talk page. Nev1 (talk) 18:04, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- On a related note, I've just downgraded a couple of other quality assessments of yours. Unfortunately I worded my edit summaries rather strongly, so I apologise. To explain, I had momentarily forgotten the scale goes up from C to A and thought it went up from A to C. Stupid of me. So I thought things were much worse than they really were. I can't go back and reword my summaries. Sorry.
- However, as far as I can tell, you are still relatively new to Wikipedia so I'd like to suggest you take a back seat from quality assessment for a little longer until you have a bit more experience under your belt, and then start at the bottom and work your way up. In my own case, even though I've been editing for several years now, I feel qualified only to issue "stub" and "start" assessments. I feel I haven't yet studied the assessment criteria closely enough to issue higher assessments.
- Although it's not against the rules, I would also suggest, as good practice, that inexperienced assessors ought not to assess any article they have made a significant contribution to, except at the lowest levels of the scale.
- I hope you are not offended by my mentioning this. It is my personal view and others might disagree. I welcome your enthusiasm, and as soon as I've finished writing this, I'm going to sign up to the Lancs & Cumb wikiproject. -- Dr Greg talk 18:30, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Barnstar
editThanks for the barnstar, that's my second one now :-) Just improved the Lostock Hall article with even more extensive details. Hopefully the article is looking better for readers doing research. Cheers! Gareth aka Pr3st0n (talk) 20:03, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Archive
editI suggest that you DO keep an archive of this page. It may not be of interest now, but you never know in the future .... It takes no space (effectively) on Wikipedia, and it can sometimes be useful resource. Why not? I do not know any other editor who deletes the material on their talk page. Cheers. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 19:59, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

editPlease do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to Sollom. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalized, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. Alan (talk) 20:15, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Lostock Hall's GAN
editHi, just thought I'd let you know I've submitted Lostock Hall article up for GA nomination, posted a comment about it on here, and the nomination itself can be found here. Would it be ok to write something in the news section of Wikipedia:WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria? Cheers! Gareth aka Pr3st0n (talk) 21:35, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Thst is great that you have submitted the article for GA status. I really hope it goes well as the whole point of this WikiProject group is to get as many articles as we can onto GA status.
Yes please do add it to the news section as it is news afterall. Good luck! --93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:38, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks I will add the news ASAP. I'm nervous now, but hopefully this will be the first of many GA's to come for the project. Pr3st0n (talk) 21:40, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
It may take a while to get some feedback. I have recently looked at your work and it does look good. I have not yet looked at the requiements for GA status in full, so I'm not exactly sure what you need to do. Don't get your hopes up to much though as it's very strict and recently Blackburn was denied GA status, So have a quick look at that article to see what you need to compete with. I wish it all goes well though. My fingers are crossed.
Meanwhile, as you are from near Preston why don't you try and help get that article to GA status as Preston is a top priortiy yo get to GA. --93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:45, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- I will see what I can do to help. Doing Lostock Hall is like a starter block for me, time for the bigger projects like Preston, and possibly the other surrounding areas too. Pr3st0n (talk) 21:47, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
New name
editHi, I just noticed that you moved your user page to User:93gregsonl. If you're attempting to change your user name, I'm afraid editors can't do it themselves and have to make a request at WP:RENAME. Nev1 (talk) 23:35, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- Have you requested a name change yet? It's not strictly necessary as you could create the User:93gregsonl account, but you need to make a decision whether to stick with this account, abandon it for User:93gregsonl, or request that the edits attributed to this account be moved to User:93gregsonl and that account's log in be created for you. Nev1 (talk) 21:24, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
I'll explain, I made an account called '93gregsonl' a long time ago and it went weird so I abandoned it and soon after I created '93gregsonl2', but now I want to go back to my orignal user name of '93gregsonl' but using this acount (93gregsonl2). Sorry if I have confused you. I can not explain it in a simpler way. --93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:29, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- In that case, WP:USURP would be your best bet. The contribution histories of each account would be merged. It's a hassle, I know, but other people will be wondering when when they click on your sigature it takes them to User:93gregsonl. That in itself is not a big problem, more of an inconvenience as the names are so similar it's pretty obvious you're the same person. However, the problem is that if someone leaves a message at User talk:93gregsonl, there's the chance you could miss it as you won't get the orange bar at the top of your screen informing you of new messages. Even then it's not a big thing, it would be ok for you to edit from this account, but it would be easier in the end if you filed a request at WP:USURP. Once the edit histories are merged, they could then e-mail you a new password for the account. Nev1 (talk) 21:37, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks I will have a look at that tommorow. I have problems now as I can not access this user talk page unless someone messeges me. I can only access my old '93gregonl' user talk page, not this one anymore (93gregsonl2). Anyway thanks, you do know your stuff. I don't know where I would be without you. I'll get to it as soon as I can. Doing... --93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:42, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

West Lancashire Council election, 2008
editHi, in reference to your message on the talk page of the above article a summary of the results can be found at this page and the detailed ward results off this page. I have kept meaning to add them in myself but never get round to it. Hope the above links are helpful. Davewild (talk) 21:53, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

edit...for the barnstar! :D
BTW, I took the liberty of converting {{The WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria Award}} into an actual barnstar-style award. Hope you don't mind. Small-town hero (talk) 02:57, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- That is fantastic. It looks great. I was going to do it myself but never got round to do it. Thanks.93gregsonl2 (talk) 17:35, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Puzzled
editI'm puzzled. Putting together information you have supplied on several pages, when you were about 5 years old, you flew in a plane over Banks and took this photograph. Is that really true? Maybe it is, but if it isn't, I suggest you sort out the error immediately, otherwise you could end up with the same problem Pr3st0n had. -- Dr Greg talk 23:50, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- I know there is a problem. I'll explain I have found that image on a website (see external link) http://www.banksbrassband.com/history.htm
- Now I have got permission to use this image (I know one of the band plyers). Now I know it is not my own work and I was stupid to lisence it as my own. I am now trying to change the lisening, I will do very soon. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:45, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm no expert in this area, but I suggest you don't take too long about it. If you can't sort this out pretty quickly it might be better to get the image deleted and upload it again later. That goes for any other images you may have mis-attributed too. -- Dr Greg talk 22:05, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
(following on from comments at Talk:Banks, Lancashire) OK then, these are the files that are a problem:
- File:Railway line .jpg, File:FEILDS.jpg, File:Banks Methodist Chapel.jpg -- These three images are taken from Geograph. I'm going to tag them for deletion on Commons and reupload them, because there is no problem using them with the proper license.
- File:Banks ariel veiw.jpg -- You've already said about this one, so I'll tag it for deletion as well.
- File:Greaves hall.jpg -- Taken from [1] and cropped, but is © A. Wright WLDC. I've already tagged this for deletion.
- File:Banks Brass Band.jpg -- Photo is taken from [2] and is © Banks Brass Band 2009. Permission from your friend may not be good enough as he may not be in a position to give it, but I'll leave it for now.
- File:Dump.jpg, File:The Three Pools Waterway.jpg -- These two are © Peter Hodge on Panoramio. I'm not too sure about these, so I may have to look into them.
- File:En-uk-Banks.ogg -- You've probably already seen the deletion notice below, but if you've created this yourself then it should be OK. I can't seem to play it though, so perhaps there is something wrong with the file?
- File:BanksMethodistSchool.jpg, File:Banks St. Stephens Church.jpg -- These two look OK and I have no problem beleiving that they are yours. File:Banks, Lancashire Info box.jpg is a duplicate though, so I've tagged it for deletion.
There's no problem here that can't be fixed, but as Dr Gregg says above it's better to get it sorted out sooner rather than later. What happened with Pr3st0n was an extreme example, but it does show what can happen. Regards. Small-town hero (talk) 22:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'll explain on the one's you have problems with...
- File:Dump.jpg, File:The Three Pools Waterway.jpg- I am pretty sure Panoramio photos are OK as it is like Fliker/Geograph. But it would be better to make sure and check I suppose.
- File:En-uk-Banks.ogg- I don't know why that is a problem (hearing it), but I think it should be deleted and I will try again at a later date.
And I fully understand that the images that are up for deletion, as I said I was in the process of deleting them myself, but I never got the time, but this is a huge wake up call. Thanks. But I do understand that you take pics yourself, if you could possibly get a chance to take some pics of the Banks, Lancashire sections, if time permits. It would be a fantastic contribution to get our article to GA. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 22:56, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
New to Wikipedia
editHi there, I noticed on a project talk page that you discussed an issue regarding a former Wikipedia user Pr3st0n, who is now blocked. Not sure if it was brought to your attention, I believe that the user has died. Not sure if it is true or not. Anyways, as I live in the City of Preston, I am willing to help out on any local project articles, and if you like, would love to work on that Lostock Hall article which the aforementioned user once worked on, in their honour. Please let me know if this is OK. Cheers! FriargateFairy (talk) 17:21, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think he died; see link- Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive570#Copyright concerns, User:Pr3st0n basically repeated copyright violations and refusal to admit it.
- Yes!! please do imporove the Lostock Hall artcile. It is very close the GA. And I have noticed that the pictures from Pr3st0n have been deleted from that article, so if possible could you take some photos of the area and upload them to Wikpedia. Any problems come and see me or feel free to see our WikiProject talk page. I am looking forward to your contributions. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:23, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
"FriargateFairy" is believed to be the same person as "Pr3st0n" and has been blocked. See User talk:FriargateFairy. -- Dr Greg talk 22:00, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:En-uk-Banks.ogg
editThanks for uploading File:En-uk-Banks.ogg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock (TALK) 21:41, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Blowick gasholder
editTo show what a nerd I am, I spent time on Boxing Day happily photographing sky - but very specific sky: patches of sky which a few months ago were filled with the Blowick gasholder. See this collection. I took the image on the right to match this image which you uploaded as File:The tallest gas holder in Blowick.jpg. Now, if you own the copyright on the "before" image, would you please: upload it (preferably at the original resolution), to the Commons and with a proper licence tag. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:14, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sadly, I don't think I own the copyright of that image as I think I uploaded it when I was an imature Wikipedian, and just uploaded random images from the Internet that was not mine. I can not help you sorry. --93gregsonl2 (talk) 01:12, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Any chance you might remember where you found it? Even if I cannot upload it, I could link to it. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:23, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- I don't remember to be honest, I think I found it on the Southport Visiter website. I still have the image on my computer, but I don't have a clue where I found it, all I know is that I uploaded the image to my computer on the 08/08/09. However I will in the meantime keep a look out for it on the Internet and I'll post a link on your talkpage when/if I find it. --93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:31, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria
editHi, I'm curious why you think HMS Cardiff meets the criteria for WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria? I see you have also recently added another FA class article to the project. Ryan4314 (talk) 19:46, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
I added this article to our Wikiproject because this article appeared on a FA list on Portal:Cumbria. I do not contribute to this portal. I just saw the HMS Cardiff under the FA list and becasue the Portal:Cumbria is under the Wikiproject Lancs and Cumb scope I just saw fit to add the article to our scope aswell. Understand? If you do not beleive that HMS Cardiff should be under our scope please consult User:J Milburn as he does most of the edits for Portal:Cumbria and he can remove it from our scope. I think he added it because the ship was built in Cumbria.--L. Gregson 21:07, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the update, I was unaware of this new portal. Ryan4314 (talk) 23:01, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- I was going to ask the same question. By the same token we should add every ship built in Barrow to the project, having just this one looks like hi-jacking it because it has FA status. Personally I think they are out of scope, the article List of ships built in Barrow is fair enough but not all the individual ships. NtheP (talk) 22:52, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- This was my concern also, although I think it should remain on the portal. Ryan4314 (talk) 23:03, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'll take this conversation over to the project talk ans see if we can get a concensus. NtheP (talk) 15:58, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Like the pic i added? :) Bankhallbretherton (talk) 19:54, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes I love it. I have always wanted to see an image in that section of the article. If you want to add more photos to the artcile it would be great. In particular I think a picture of Banks carboot sale needs to be on the article. So if you have time in April when the carboot starts please take a picture of it and upload it to Wikipedia please (if time permits though). Thanks for improving the article, soon we will get it to GA.--L. Gregson (talk) 23:36, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Hey its no problem! i am on a mission at the moment to try get loads of pics for articles that i have edited and expanded! have a look at Bank Hall and let me know what you think of it! do you think its of B class now? it has definately improved from C class! cheers Bankhallbretherton (talk) 00:03, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Tourism by canal
editHi, I just noticed your additions to the Southport article, about the pre-railway development of the town. What a fascinating idea, tourist travel by canal boat, back in those days. I never knew such a thing took place. If you know any more about it, it might be worth an article on use of the UK canal system for passenger traffic. Everyone hears of the potteries and the coal and iron traffic by barge, but not their use for passengers in large numbers. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:47, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your intrest. I don't really know much about the topic, I got the information from this Youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT1Y4hVhpCI&feature=related --Nautical Cat (talk) 15:16, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
