Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, ABBComms. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Pregnancy discrimination, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Request reason:

I am compensated by the organization A Better Balance for my contributions indirectly, as a member of the organization's communications team. I understand that my account has been banned due to my not properly disclosing my affiliation and compensation – apologies, I mistakenly thought that adding a COI disclosure to my user page would be sufficient, but I can also add any and all necessary disclosures of organizational affiliation and compensation to my User and Talk pages. If I am unblocked, I would like to use the resources and research created by A Better Balance to build up cited sources on relevant articles, within the parameters of what is allowed by Wikipedia editors, and to create a page for A Better Balance within those same parameters, as the organization has played a major role in working on legislation (including drafting pieces of legislation that have passed at the state and local level across the country), has been written about in numerous external sources in major publications like the New York Times, Forbes, and Washington Post, and has been verbally cited by politicians such as Rep. Jerry Nadler as playing a notable role in passing and advancing certain pieces of legislation, and is therefore a noteworthy entity. Going forward, I will make any necessary changes to my account, and any materials I submit for consideration, in order to comply by all of Wikipedia's guidelines and be as neutral and straightforward as possible.

Decline reason:

Your choice of new username would be acceptable. Please review WP:COI and WP:PAID and tell us specifically how your future edits will be consistent with those policies, and also if there are any other topics you might edit about as a general contributor. I am declining your request at this time. 331dot (talk) 08:33, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have reviewed both pages, and will be adding conflict of interest and paid contribution disclosure templates to my user page if unblocked, as well as indicating both of these in any ongoing edits. As a general contributor, I might make factual edits adding additional details to pages related to labor laws, as well as updates on the statuses of pieces of legislation as they move through Congress in order to keep those pages current and accurate. Thank you. ABBComms (talk) 14:56, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Everyone says they'll "comply with all of Wikipedia's guidelines", which is why you were asked to speak in specifics. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 20:16, 10 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

To paraphrase, "I would like to use the resources and research created by A Better Balance to build up cited sources on relevant articles" reads like "You would like to find claims in the encyclopedia which are already sourced, and add links to your organisation's website." How would your proposed additions differ from WP:REFSPAM? Cabayi (talk) 10:26, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

These proposed edits would involve adding additional details and claims using primary sources located through an internal archive of .gov websites and bill texts (both state and federal level) to add current updates to the status of certain pieces of legislation and maintain lists of existing protections on legislation-specific pages regarding paid family and medical leave, paid sick time, and potential other policy topics. This would not involve any swapping of existing citations unless an entire claim was corrected or updated on my end in a way that would necessitate adding a new more current source to ensure the information is up-to-date and accurate. ABBComms (talk) 17:08, 31 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
To clarify: you are interested in adding links to .gov sites you are unaffiliated with? Or are you linking to a site that you are affiliated with? Your two replies here are a bit contradictory if you ask me. Vanished user 60279853583153 (talk) 23:59, 5 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
