Orphaned non-free image File:Victims of Communism Memorial - Washington, D.C..jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Victims of Communism Memorial - Washington, D.C..jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude2 (talk) 05:44, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Wikimania in DC next year

I've noticed that you contributed a lot of photos to the NRHP Washington, DC list. Wikimania will be in Washington, DC next August and I'd like to get the List of RHPs in DC table completed by then, as a present to all the visitors.

I made a general proposal/invitation at

Talk:National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Washington,_D.C.#Wikimania_in_DC

Please take a look and any help would be appreciated.

Hey, just wanted to let you know the link for the US historical sites PDF is broken. On the planning site, they link to this URL instead: http://planning.dc.gov/DC/Planning/Historic+Preservation/Maps+and+Information/Landmarks+and+Districts/Inventory+of+Historic+Sites/Alphabetical+Edition

In case you're curious, I ended up on your profile page because I'm planning a trip to DC, and keep finding photos you've taken of buildings I want to photograph. So you're not the only one who takes too many building photos. :-)

Thanks for your wikipedia contributions! Much appreciated!

Hi Sarah, I suggest you go ahead and fix those links yourself. It has been quite some time since APK has edited. (Some of us still hope he'll come back sometime though!) LadyofShalott 02:02, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Impressive.

Thanks for the fun read and I'm impressed by your wiki stuff! I found you by googling the Jones Point Lighthouse because we walked around it yesterday evening. I was actually looking to find info on the ferry that had to be near it. The ferry dock is still there.

Thanks again. 72.192.204.221 (talk) 13:00, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Cyndi (another strict-religiously-raised girl who became pagan and lives with a girl. ;-) )

Interview with Wikimedia Foundation

Hello APK, I hope you're well. My name is Aaron and I'm one of the Storytellers working on the 2011 fundraiser here at the Wikimedia Foundation. For this year's campaign we're seeking out and interviewing active Wikipedians like yourself, in order to produce a broader and more representative range of "personal appeals" to run come November. If you'd like to participate in this project, please email me at amuszalski wikimedia.org. Interviews are typically conducted by phone or Skype and take between 30-90 minutes. (Note: This invitation is open to any interested Wikipedian — If you're reading this, and would like to be interviewed as well, please contact me.) Thanks! Quick easy question?

Hi, just wondering if you can point out the proper infobox to add to the biography page for Richie Unterberger? I think he's more of an interviewer --like with Allmusic, or something, but I just bumped into his page and although the photo is there, no infobox has been placed. Can you help/respond on my talk page? Thanks, --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:53, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Shulman's Market - Louise Rosskam

Hi--I'm writing from the Jewish Historical Society. We saw the Louise Rosskam photo of Shulman's Market in SW recently, and were looking into more information about the owner. Then I saw that you had information on him in your caption of the photo! So I wanted to check in, curious where your sources were, as that would greatly help us--especially since we have barebones information in our database of Jewish-owned mom-and-pop stores. National Archives ExtravaSCANza

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! Dominic·t 01:06, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.

Non-free rationale for File:Zipcar sign - Washington, D.C..jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Zipcar sign - Washington, D.C..jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:04, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Oscar Straus Memorial, Justice - Washington, D.C..jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 04:08, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
