Pings
editIf you want to notify another editor via a talk page discussion, you need to do things in the same edit:
- place a ping, and
- add (or change) a signature
If you do just one of those things, e.g. by placing the ping to an item that you had previously saved, nothing will happen. The easiest way to make things happen is to also change the signature, e.g. by manually adjusting the time the (second) edit is to be saved at. Schwede66 05:02, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Schwede66, I was not aware of this behaviour. ATMmachinePC (talk) 05:06, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- You seem to have quite solid knowledge for a new editor. Is this a new account or are you a returning editor with a prior account? Schwede66 05:07, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you Schwede66. This is a new account, I haven't edited Wikipedia before, I've just been using the policy pages to inform myself. ATMmachinePC (talk) 05:12, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
editThinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
