[edit]With reference to my edit about the theory of Comino’s name I would like to make a contribution to the etymological origins if the name “Comino” as there are none in the article.
The adjective “comminus” in Latin means “near” according to, Woodhouse, S.C., The Englishman’s Latin Dictionary. Routlage and Kegan Paul Ltd., 1965.
Definition of "Kemmuna" Provided by Aquilina, J. Maltese-English Dictionary Volume One. Midsea Books Ltd. Malta, 1987. Comino, is the name of the third largest island in the Maltese Archipelago. “Bejn il-kmiemen” (“ninsab bejn il-kmiemen”/“bejn ħalltejn”) in Maltese, meaning “in two minds; unable to decide”. “Tal-Kemmuni” is a place name in Kap San Mitri/Dimitri, Gozo. Il-Kmiemen = Kemmuna and Kemmunett; ‘bejn il-Kmiemen’ is the name of a narrow channel between Kemmuna and Kemmunett. Zammit Ciantar, J.F. A Linguistic Study of Gozitan Toponymy. Thesis submitted for the degree of M.A. in Maltese. University of Malta, 1978.
As you can see, there is no reference to Cumin. ~2026-44157-08 (talk) 13:04, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
