Endowment

Hello, endowment is some capital that provides income for a university. For example, many universities in the US receive donations that are not spent right away but invested in shares or different financial instruments that provide a smaller but regular income. As far as I know, most public universities in Mexico do not have an endowment because they usually get most of their income through a combination of federal/state budgets, tuitions and, rarely, through patent licensing. Some of the private foundations sponsoring them may have one, but in any case, it's quite hard to establish the correct amount as the practice is not as extended as in the US. - Esteban Zissou (talk) 12:16, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
