Errors in the Article on Adam Raphael.

edit

I am Adam Raphael, the journalist who worked for the Guardian, The Observer, the BBC etc. There are a number of errors in the article about me which I believe would be worth correcting. The facts in Who's Who are correct.

Errors in this article:

1. I have never been a member of the Territorial Army. I did National Service from 1956-58, and then left the army. 2. I was briefly (for a year) a presenter on Newsnight, but I was never an assistant editor or executive editor of Newsnight. 3. I was, however, made Executive Editor of the Observer when I returned to that paper in 1988, and remained in that post until I left the Observer in 1993. 4. The account of the Jeffrey Archer is muddled. I gave evidence under subpoena in the original Archer libel trial in 1987. My evidence was damning because I disclosed a conversation with Archer in which he admitted that he had met the prostitute Monica Coghlan. The jury however preferred to believe Archer's account, and he was awarded £500,000 in libel damages. 6. Following the Archer trial, I wrote a book; 'My Learned Friends' which disclosed that Archer had dinner with his key alibi witness, Terence Baker, a theatrical agent whom he had told the jury he rarely saw. The implication was that Archer had fabricated alibi evidence. 7. In 2001 when Archer decided to run for Mayor of London, I wrote an article in the Economist which pointed out that the mayoral candidate had left many unanswered questions bout his libel trial, not least the fact that he had asked me if I would change my evidence in his favour.

Hello Mr. Raphael, and thank you for identifying yourself as the subject of that article. I should point out, however, that this is your user talk page, and not the talk page of the article. User talk pages are meant for others to communicate with you directly, as I am.
The talk page for the article about you is at Talk:Adam Raphael. If you could repost your comments there, I'm sure either I or another editor can look into making these changes. What would help is if you can supply some reliable sources, either online or print, so that they can be listed as references.
Editors here are often wary about subjects editing articles about themselves, as they often violate Wikipedia's guideline on autobiographies. You've done the right thing by engaging other editors first - so again, thanks!
I've added a welcome message at the top of this page, which contains some helpful links that deal with how to edit and some of the relevant policies on Wikipedia. I hope you decided to stay and contribute! --Drm310 (talk) 20:30, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
