Countries matter
editHi, I've been wondering why you're trying to use the EU state as a country rather than the entire European Union. Especially to foreign readers it is important to know what country you're talking about. Sometimes a little extra information helps to better understand an article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeleva (talk • contribs) 00:35, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Jeleva, thanks for the comment. I think you might not have read/understood my comment on your talk page. The message of it was this: the EU is NOT a country, just an agreement between some countries; Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Austria, Belgium, and all those other things are all actual countries, on the same level as the USA, Canada, Mexico etc. So you're right that it's useful for readers to know what country they're reading about. But that country is not the EU, because the EU is not a country. I hope this helps. Adam Dent (talk) 04:31, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Minor edits
editHi Adam Dent! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at University of London that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. - Hi, thank you very much for your message. I am ashamed to say I did not know that before. Sorry if my inappropriate minor-marking has caused any problems. Thanks also for the link to the Wikipedia advice - in particular, "If an editor considers a change to be minor yet conceivably controversial, it is always possible to include "minor" in the edit summary without ticking the "minor edit" box" seems like a good policy.
