Hello, I'm 5 albert square. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Lauren Branning, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. Top Gear (2002 TV series)

edit

Hi there,

I've reverted the edits you made to Top Gear (2002 TV series) as there were a few problems with them.

  • There were no citations backing up the claim.
  • The reference to "Top Gear will move to BBC One later this year" is unclear; it'll become out of date from this year on (and people might not know whether it was written last year and is already out of date). Something like "It was announced in early 2020 that Top Gear would move to BBC One later that year" might work better.
  • Please take care when adding new content not to orphan any existing references. Your new sentence went between an existing sentence and the reference that supported it. This stranded the reference from what it was backing up and made it look (wrongly) like it related to your new sentence. (People might look at them, see that they don't support the claim and remove it; I thought this myself at first).

If you want to add the content back with supporting references, you're welcome to do so.

All the best, Ubcule (talk) 20:54, 18 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Referencing

edit

Hey, I saw your edit summary regarding referencing. The easiest way to learn referencing is by copying the template at Template:Cite web and putting in the information. The crucial parts you must include are the URL link, the title (the headline of the article), the website name (for example: Digital Spy, Metro, BBC) and the date it was written. Any extra information such as the author and access date is appreciated, but not vital. Let me know if you need any other help/tips/whatever. :) – DarkGlow (talk) 21:27, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

MOS:YEAR

edit

Hello, I've noticed you going around to multiple articles and removing "–present" for simply "–," and this is wrong per the above manual of style. Per the sub-section, MOS:DATETOPRES, it states: "For ranges "to present", constructions such as 1982–present (with unspaced en dash), January 1, 2011 – present (spaced ndash), or January 2011 – present (spaced ndash) may be used, but other constructions may be more appropriate in prose (see § Statements likely to become outdated). Do not use incomplete-looking constructions such as 1982– and 1982–... ." YYYY–present is the proper format; YYYY– is wrong per this. Just thought I'd properly point this out, as again, I've seen you on multiple pages now reverting this. Happy editing! livelikemusic (TALK!) 19:31, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I should also note your change to the caption of images is in violation of {{Infobox soap character}}, which states in the formatting section: "the MOS also recommends "succinctness" (using no superfluous or needless words) when captioning photos," and gives a valid example. Linking the actor's name and including a year — a year which is wrong, violates the MoS, and also violates the over-linking policy of Wikipedia. The template also only asks for the first airdate of a character, so including the episode, which is not sourced, should not be included. Please keep this in mind when editing further. livelikemusic (TALK!) 12:36, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Adavid299,

Just letting you know that the names on the trailers and the episodes are different. Episode Names were scrapped at the end of 2019 and when a character departs, the episode number is the overall number of the episode (e.g. S22 E36 is Episode 1044).

Edit summaries

edit

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Blanchey (talk) 19:29, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bare URLs

edit

Hello, and thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references! However, you should know that adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to linkrot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources. A bare URL is a URL cited as a reference for some information in an article without any accompanying information about the linked page. In other words, it is just URL copied and pasted into the Wiki text, inserted between <ref>...</ref> tags, without title, author, date, or any of the usual information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{cite web}} template to cite a web page:

Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.

which displays inline in the running text of the article as:

Lorem ipsum[1] dolor sit amet.

and displays under References as:

1. ^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac". Ask a Question. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.

If you've already entered one or more bare urls to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations; try the reFill tool, which can resolve some bare references semi-automatically. Once again, thanks for adding references to articles, and to avoid future link rot, please consider supplementing your bare URLs—creating full, inline citations with title, author, date, publisher, etc. More information can be found at Wikipedia:Inline citations. Thank you. Blanchey 💬📝 21:16, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

A recent edit of yours

edit

Hello, Adavid299, I hope you are well! I wanted to thank you for your recent edits, although I need to point out that this edit was incorrect, and has already been reverted. You claimed that Julie Hesmondhalgh was returning to Coronation Street as Hayley Cropper, although at no point did the source you provided, confirm a return. In future, please ensure that you actually read what you are adding, so you don’t make any mistakes as this could have been misleading for our readers. Also, I believe I’ve mentioned this to you in the past, but it would be much more appreciated if when adding sources to articles, you had them filled out instead of just adding the url. You do not have to do this of course because Wikipeida is not compulsory, although it does not take much time at all. If you switch to visual editor and click the button to add a reference, you paste the url into a box and most of the time it very cleverly turns it into a proper citation with the author name, article title, publisher etc. If it doesn’t work though, you are able to fill it out manually, and this takes no time at all. Aside from this, I do appreciate all your work, and want you to know that if you ever get stuck, I am more than happy to help you, just leave a message on my talk page. Have a good day!   Blanchey (talk) 16:24, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

An article you recently created, Junior Bake Off (series 8), is not suitable as written to remain published. An article needs more information and citations from reliable, independent sources to remain in the mainspace. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Infoboxes

edit

Hey, I hope you are doing well. I appreciate your help on EastEnders related articles, such as when you removed unsourced content from Linda Carter - thank you! However, I have reverted your edits to the infoboxes, where you removed the flashback actors and replaced them with a footnote, as according to the Soaps character infobox template, all the actors should be displayed in the infobox. The infobox is meant to be an overview of some key information and thus should have the actors clearly on display. This is the case with all other soap opera characters, and even other fictional characters (e.g. see Daphne Blake - the voice actors who voiced her in flashbacks/as a child are listed there). ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:42, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
