Teahouse response

Hello, AdmiralAckbar1977,

I was reading over posts at the Teahouse and came to Wikipedia:Teahouse#Page taken down where you stated you cannot write a Wikipedia page about yourself. But while autobiographies are discouraged, it isn't against policy to write an autobiography on Wikipedia or, at least, it is not grounds for article deletion. We have lots of articles, especially articles from 10 or 15 years ago that were started by the subject of the article. I've noticed that this used to happen a lot with academics and artists of all kinds. There is a conflict-of-interest, of course, that needs to be declared and, as I said, autobiographies are discouraged but they aren't a violation of policy. I see hundreds of autobiographies every year in my work with expiring drafts so it still happens frequently, especially with younger editors. It's incredibly difficult to write an objective autobiography so the articles are often deleted by CSD G11 for promotional reasons or, if they are in main space, by CSD A7 for a lack of notability, but I just wanted to correct you that editors can write an autobiography, they are just usually not successful.

By the way, thank you for all of your contributions to the project! Liz Read! Talk! 19:44, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

@Liz, thank you for sending me this! I was always under the impression that self written articles were expressly forbidden. I amvery grateful that you let me know they are not, I feel wicked bad about spreading false information though.
Thank you for all your contributions, you’re without a question one of the editors I come across most regularly on the Recent Changes page, my watchlist, and the teahouse. AdmiralAckbar1977 talk contribs 23:18, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
