  Hello, Afrancis3277. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ElKevbo (talk) 15:17, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

You are legally obligated to announce if you are being paid by Edison State Community College regardless if they paid you for editing or not. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:58, 6 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I am employed by Edison State Community College. I was trying to update the information listed on our page and unintentionally took the wrong approach. How can I correct this issue? Afrancis3277 (talk) 13:19, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your disclosure. Please read WP:PAID. You can annotate your conflict of interest in couple ways, such as with a template on your user page as I have done for my CoI on my userpage. From here on, you should provide citations and request others to edit for you at Talk:Edison State Community College. It is important for you to know that per WP:OWN, neither you nor your employer have authority regarding Wikipedia articles; this is a common misunderstanding. Thanks. I believe I have completed what is required on my user page. How can I get the alert removed from the Edison State Community College page? Re: (This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. (December 2022) Afrancis3277 (talk) 20:57, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Like all such templates, another Wikipedian will have to cleanup the article to resolve why the article is tagged; this is Wikipedia's process for improving content and you shouldn't feel any shame or onus because the template is there. After all, this encyclopedia is made by volunteers for the benefit of the readers. Chris Troutman (talk) 21:01, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

You still have not adequately responded or taken action to the inquiry regarding your appearance as an undisclosed paid editor. If you make any additional edits without complying, you may be blocked from editing. Netherzone (talk) 17:59, 19 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Many editors are generally okay if COI editors make updates of existing information that is clearly uncontroversial. But COI editors, particularly those who are being paid by the subject, are usually advised to make requests and suggestions in the article's Talk page so that other editors can vet them.
