Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine

Hi Agne27, I saw that you created the article Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine. I see the rationale behind writing on Italy's wines region by region (in the official sense: Regions of Italy), but in this particular case here, I think it might be more useful to split the article. Trentino and South Tyrol/Alto Adige/Südtirol are autonomous provinces with a very different cultural, traditional and linguistic background (Elizabeth Poyet writes in her Little black book of wine: In the northernmost part of Italy lies the mountaineous Trentino-Alto Adige, which combines two very different regions with corrispondingly varied wines. p. 118).

Since the region is just a loose commonwealth of two autonomous entities, there are quite diverse economic, methodic and legal circumstances for winemaking, not to mention that there are two separate marketing companies promoting the wine production. There are also remarkable differences in the cultivated grape varieties. For example, Teroldego and Marzemino are found almost exclusively in Trentino, while Lagrein and Gewürztraminer are typical for South Tyrol.

So it might happen that the two wine regions are treated in one section of books dealing with the whole wine production of Italy (for reasons of consistency, since they usually go region by region), but you won't find one single book focussing on the wines of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. For reasons stated above, they describe wines either from South Tyrol/Alto Adige/Südtirol ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]) or from Trentino ([7], [8], [9]). The Italian article it:Denominazione di origine controllata lists the two provinces separately, as well, and so does the List of Italian DOC wines and every good wine guide in Italy ([10], [11], have a look at the map on the right side!). So I'd suggest to split the current article and to create Trentino (wine) and South Tyrol (wine). What do you think? --Mai-Sachme (talk) 15:44, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Pierre Tari

Hello Agne, I changed the organization's name from "Association des Grands Crus Classes" to "Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux". I suppose this information comes from George Taber's article in Time Magazine. But Taber must have been mistaken because there was no such organization at the time (1976). The Association de Grands Crus Classés Saint-Emilion was established in 1982 and it is not the organization which is responsible for the classification of Bordeaux Wines. The Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux isn't responsible as well, but Tari has been their president from 1975 to 1989 - as you can read at the bottom of the website's section "history".

My understanding of the matter is that the custodian of the Bordeaux Classification of 1855 is the Conseil des Grands Cru Classés en 1855. Paukenhoehle (talk) 16:06, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Foxen Canyon Wine Trail now buried under Santa Barbara County page

Hello Agne27, you deleted the page for the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail and buried the info at the bottom of the Santa Barbara County page, where no wine sipper actually hangs out looking for wine experiences.... I don't get it. This info does not get it's own page? I don't think I agree with this editing decision. The Foxen Canyon Wine Trail seems like encyclopedic information to me, not something that would fall under a footnote of a county. Can you reconsider this editing decision (or am I giving this too much attention due to the fact that I personally love the wine trail)?

It wasn't deleted. It was redirected and anyone that searched for Foxen Canyon Wine Trail will be sent right to it. In fact, the info will be seen by even more people since the Santa Barbara County page gets significantly more views. Look 352 hits for the month of August for Foxen Canyon Wine Trail while the Santa Barbara County article almost gets that amount in a single day. "cohen cruse ruse"

Hi Agne27! You may remember me (and not necessarily fondly, I fear!) from the tussle over Valhalla Vineyards. But I'm not writing about that now! I am writing to let you know about a set of quite-elaborate and truly odd hoax biographies that I've been investigating, and some associated contamination of legitimate pages - some of which are in the wikipedia wine project's purview.

I've created a page to track the hoaxes here: Cohen Cruse Ruse. The MO of the hoax seems to be to fake a citation to something hard to verify, then build out from there into lots of small edits of legitimate pages that support the hoax bios. I thought of coming to you in particular because you edited one of the affected pages, Cruse family, at one point. If you read through what I've written on my cohen cruse ruse page you should get a better idea of what this is all about.

This is all to say that I'd love your help in rooting this out. Anything you can do to determine what's correct and what's not, particularly in the wine pages, would be much appreciated. And if you see anything I've missed, please do feel free to edit the cohen cruse ruse page to add it. Thanks!

Hello Agne! Just by coincidence I just checked if you had been doing any editing, and noticed that indeed you had! I'm not planning to be nearly as active as I once was, but I've been doing some new article and assessment housekeeping in the last couple of weeks, for the firs time in several months. If you'd want something to help out on, it would be this Category:Burgundy (historical region) wine nonsense. As far as I can tell, it's plain wrong, we're definitely talking about wines from current Bourgogne/Burgundy (French region) rather than Burgundy (historical region), which would include some Jura wine and some Swiss wine. Heh, yeah. I've been slowly ramping up my activity and getting back in the swing of things. Mostly I've been working over at Commons, uploading a lot of personal wine related photos from my enology studies and tours. My next plan will be to start moving those photos over to the relevant articles here and of course working on those articles as need be. Just on the Category issue - the problem stems from this category originally being called "Burgundy wine" before a speedy move to "Burgundy (historical region) wine" (at the same time as "Burgundy AOCs" and "Burgundy wine producers") in December last year. Entre-Deux-Mers

I don't want to be a bore, but there's something wrong here. 3/4 of all the red wine produced under the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur AOCs would be 200 million litres of wine. The total wine output of Entre-Deux-Mers is only 60 million litres. ("Entre-deux-Mers and surroundings".) It's big, but it's not that big! I think you have a different edition of the World Atlas of Wine from me: could you possibly copy out the relevant text? Havelock Jones (talk) 20:59, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Edit: Also while Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson are, undoubtedly, reliable sources they are certainly not infallible or omniscient. This data is from 2005 and could easily be outdated. How odd: I agree both that that's what the source says and that the source in reliable, but I still don't believe it - for the reason I gave, it can't be true either now or in 2005. There must be some sort of mix up - perhaps 3/4 of the wine produced in Entre-Deux-Mers is sold under those appellations? Any way, I'll leave it for now, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything which clears it up.

Havelock, please notice what your reference actually says: "data about Entre-deux-Mers appellation... a surface of 10000 ha, the average production is of approx. 600000 hl". If they have been correct with their terminology, this is not the same as all vineyards in the Entre-deux-Mers region, since many of those use other appellations, such as Bordeaux Superieur. Hey. Sorry for the delay. I'm traveling at the moment with only intermittent internet access. Whether you do a cut/paste or page move doesn't matter for DYK as the date the article goes "live" is the date the article considers for DYK. The only "hitch" is whether or not you want to go through the quid pro quo requirement of DYK rules for self nominations (#5). Since both you and Murgh were the main authors, you would most likely have to do a review of another DYK nom which can be a headache. If another, uninvolved editor nominated the article then there would be no QPQ requirement. I most likely do not qualify as "uninvolved" myself since I do add over 1000 bytes to the article. Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. AVA Map on AmericanWineryGuide.com

Thanks for your work on the Wine Project! I'm new to Wikipedia and appreciate the need to avoid link spam, but I'm not aware of any source on the Internet that provides a map of all the AVAs, particularly not one that is interactive. Is their a correct way to get this included? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Viticultural_Area

Pretty much anytime a new user or IP account has edits that only include adding external links, it raises some red flags especially if there is a potential conflict of interest with it being a website that you're connected with. Reading your blog at American Winery Guide, it is clear that you know your stuff and, ideally, it would be nice if you built up your "cred", so to speak, by adding content to articles instead of just links. But I'll tell you what, as a compromise I'll put your link on the Talk:American Viticultural Area page for review by independent, uninvolved editors (as well as a note on the Wine Project talk page) and if one of those editors wishes to move the link over to the article then I will have no objections.
