Wikinews vs. Wikipedia
editI would like to bring up an issue regarding the "In the News" section on the Wikipedia Main Page. I recently posted a similar notice on the Talk Page of the Main Page, however no action has yet been taken regarding it nor has anyone responded. This caused me to decide that posting it there was inappropriate.
It is for this reason that I find no other place than my talk page to place this request that the "In the News" page be removed from the Main Page, or else that it remain only as a link to Wikipedia's sister project, Wikinews. It is not the purpose of an encyclopedia to serve as a news source, nor is it the purpose of a news source to serve as an encyclopedia. For example, you do not open up your encyclopedia volume to see what just happened in the news, nor do you open up the newspaper in search of general knowledge or information.
If there is another place wherein it would be more appropriate to place this request, please feel free to tell me about it.
License tagging for File:FHHA Logo.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:FHHA Logo.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:06, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
editYou have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
