Conflict of interest
editWelcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "STARTsecretariat", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. A tag has been placed on START (global change SysTem for Analysis, Research & Training), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Removing speedy deletion tags
editWelcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from START (global change SysTem for Analysis, Research & Training), a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:42, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
You uploaded the logo of your organization to Commons (File:START logo.png). Do you understand you just released any and all future rights to the logo of your organization to restrict its use under any purpose, even commercial, derivative, and objectionable uses? I'm not sure you really want to do that, especially given the "© 2016 START International, Inc. " notice on your website. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:49, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your help, as you can tell, I'm new to Wikipedia! What do other organizations do regarding copyright protection of their logos on Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AgwaltneySTART (talk • contribs)
- First, in the future please sign your comments on talk pages by adding a "~~~~" to the end of your post. The system will automatically add your username and time stamp for you by doing that. Works great. Ok, for the logo are you meaning to say you're not intending on releasing rights as you suggested? If so, I'll tag it for deletion on Commons. Most companies that have logos on Wikipedia are here because a user has uploaded them and used them under the doctrine of fair use, and in compliance with our policy on the use of non-free content. In such a case, the logo is uploaded her to en.wikipedia, not to Commons, and remains copyrighted and restricted by the company that owns the logo. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:01, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
I've been reading up on the copyright / fair use legal info and yes, I think this would qualify for "fair use". I'll read more about how to uploaded the logo to my own Wikipedia account and not the Commons.AgwaltneySTART (talk) 16:04, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- Good job on signing! Ok, I will tag the image for deletion indicating no indication of release under a Commons compatible license and that the uploader gave no indication they are the copyright agent for the organization. It may take a while to delete. Also, if you intend on making any edits regarding your organization, PLEASE read and follow WP:PAID. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:06, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
