Qui Question

I'm not sure IBen will answer on his talk, but see User: TheDJ/Qui. It would appear, from previous posts, that IBen has had some trouble with his Qui friends. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 14:13, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Aha! Thought I'd heard of that before... thank you so much for telling me! Airplaneman talk 22:32, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm a little busy, please see User talk:iBen.-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 00:46, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

I also raised the issue here, and when I notified iBen, I was ignored and my message has since been deleted. I don't see that the user is using the program appropriately.--Terrillja talk 05:17, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I agree that he should have notified the users before putting them on the list. Airplaneman talk 05:19, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Well I was added after raising an issue with the user where they then preceded to add things like a trout to my talkpage after they had violated policies. Severe lack of maturity there, and I'm surprised that an admin of all people is not recognizing the use/potential use of the tool for wikistalking. If I were you, I'd decide if you want iBen to be able to follow you, if you don't then leave iBen a message, if they ignore it, leave me a message and I will see about getting the page deleted so they cannot use it in a manner not allowed by its developer. --Terrillja talk 05:25, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
I'll read up on the tool and see what's best. It's creepy knowing that someone may be wikistalking you without knowing... yikes. I've left him a message and he responded on his talk. Since I've had brushes with him in the past, I will be careful and come by a decision this weekend. Thanks, Airplaneman talk 05:30, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
I've decided to use QUI and see how it goes. Airplaneman talk 23:15, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your comments. Please remember that people can read whatever you write.-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 00:47, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
I am fully aware :). I make use of that myself (reading what others write). May I add you to my QUI? Regards, Airplaneman talk 02:32, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Go ahead! I agree that users should ask before adding other users. The issue is, I don't update my status much.-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 05:20, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

BOOM.Its.Christy

Hi there. Thanks for nominating the above page for speedy deletion. Quite right, too :) One point to note, though; the page contained a huge amount of personal information relating to a child. I've gone ahead and suppressed it per policy, so if you encounter any more of these can you maybe either drop me a note or send a quick message to the Oversight team? Thanks! - Alison 05:19, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know; I'll make sure to do it next time. Nice to meet you, Airplaneman talk 05:22, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

WP:Warriors

So you didn't like the tea green colour? thats ok, but i think the white makes the page look blank inside the rainbow borders. Not that its terribly important. Brambleclawx 23:25, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Will undo... :) Airplaneman talk 00:29, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Do you think the Warriors article should be in US english or British English? Brambleclawx 22:25, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to show my status as a talk page stalker and throw out my opinion : ). The series' publishing country is UK, so it should probably be British - not that it will make life easy for most of us...but that's not the point. However, according to the Manuel of Style, it's based on whether or not the subject has strong ties to a particular country. I wouldn't necessarily say that Warriors has strong ties just to the UK, so I would say pick a version and stick to it, and it won't matter whether it's American or British. Airplaneman, sorry for stalking your page, if you'd prefer that I don't insert comments on questions not directed to me, tell me and I will desist immediately! PrincessofLlyr (talk) 22:44, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I put it to the Village Pump just now. Anyways, I stalk talk pages too. My worry is whether Wikipedia:National varieties of English (based on national ties) is stronger than WP:RETAIN. Brambleclawx 22:46, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Hard to say. From the Village Pump replies, it looks like you're going to get several different opinions. Unfortunately, I'm not that great with British English, so I probably won't be any help if we have to change the articles or check them for consistency. However, if it makes any diff, I'm inclined to agree with Trovatore, that we try to keep it consistent to the article. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 23:10, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm actually kind of amused at the stir I've caused in the Village Pump. I'll wait and see what they come up with. Any idea if User:Jimbo Wales would be of help? Brambleclawx 23:16, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, it is just a bit amusing! Drop a pebble in the pond and watch all the waves! I'm afraid contacting Jimbo would be a violation of WP:AAJ...but you could try. Ultimately, I think there is no right/wrong - a grey area. (Hmm, my spellcheck doesn't like grey - maybe I have more British tendencies than I thought!). Also, if you wanted to bring it up at the Warriors WikiProject talk and let the members decide, that might work. Of course, on second thought, it might just cause more confusion! You can decide. Airplaneman is going to wonder what we've been up to when he gets back and sees all this. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 23:26, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

How did you guess :-/? :D... I would just stick with American English, as that's what you're good at using, Brambleclawx. That's just my take on it. As PrincessofLlyr said, just pick one (I suggest the one you're better at) and stick with it. Oh, and I don't mind talk page stalkers. Stalking (in this instance) encourages discussion ;). Airplaneman talk 00:17, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I think he decided that American English was good - see [1]. Thanks for not minding that I invaded your talk page. It probably did save you some time! Oh, and I took the liberty of adding a letter that you missed in spelling my username - it is a bit difficult to type! PrincessofLlyr (talk) 00:23, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Cool! I was thinking of improving The Chronicles of Prydain articles over the summer, as some look quite neglected. I haven't read the series in ages, though. Would you be interested in helping? Airplaneman talk 00:33, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Sure! I've messed around with a few of them, even got my name on a bot's list because I edited Princess Eilonwy's page, but I haven't done a lot. I own The Book of Three and The Foundling and Other Tales from Prydain, so I can do some fact checking on those. I'll take a look soon. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 03:20, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I've done quite a bit of work on Erin Hunter; do you think the tags can come off now? Oh, and I need help finding a source for the statement in Into the Wild (Warriors) that says it was 3rd place in the YRCA 2006. Brambleclawx 01:14, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I've taken the tags off; awesome work :D! I'll search for a ref this weekend. Airplaneman talk 04:27, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I really don't think the page should be disambig and have explained why on Talk:Erin Hunter. What's your take? I've also promoted it to C class! Great work, Airplaneman talk 23:23, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Looks fine to me Brambleclawx 23:24, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

By the way, I found a source (not a very reliable one, being Kate's old site, but still a ref for now) for the 3rd place thing. Brambleclawx 00:00, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Cool! I'll keep looking. Airplaneman talk 00:01, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

WP:YA just had a bot tag Erin Hunter as needing an infobox. Does that even make sense? how do we put an infobox in it? Brambleclawx 21:50, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

As a side comment, I have a new Youtube vid. Brambleclawx 23:00, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I think you would add Template:Infobox Person. I'll take a closer look tomorrow, and will also check out the vid! Airplaneman talk 05:08, 10 February 2010 (UTC) I'm just unsure as to whether if there's a point, since Erin Hunter has no birthday, and not much info we can put in the box. Brambleclawx 22:00, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

And do we really need succession boxes on the pages about the books? Brambleclawx 22:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I don't think we need succession boxes if we already mention the book before and the book after in the text itself, but I think there's a parameter in the book's infobox for sequel/prequel, no? So, yea, I don't think succession boxes are needed. As for the infobox on Erin Hunter, I would use Template:Infobox writer and do something like what's done on Nigahiga or something, just combining the info. What do you think? Airplaneman talk 23:58, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I guess it would work. Nice thinking. I'll get rid of the succession boxes when I come across them then. Brambleclawx 00:24, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Also, do you think Into the Wild (Warriors) is ready for B-Class? Brambleclawx 23:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Plot summary's a bit long; you could try to link the characters to their entries in the list (painstaking, I know). Otherwise, looks good, much better than before your work! Airplaneman talk 01:30, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I just turned The New Prophecy, which used to be a redirect to Montanism into a Disambig. Do you think you could look it over? I'm not very familiar with making Disambig pages. Thanks Brambleclawx 02:04, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Sure. Will post a diff when done :) Airplaneman talk 02:06, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Looks good! I categorized it on the talk page. Airplaneman talk 02:08, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you! Brambleclawx 02:10, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Glad to help :) Airplaneman talk 02:14, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for retrieving those reception and theme sections... I was wondering where they went, because I remembered them being there before I was an editor. We have a new member of the Wikiproject! Brambleclawx 20:46, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

No problem :). I just took it from the last GA version from the day it was delisted. I'm glad to see WPWarriors grow. I'm just got The Fourth Apprentice. I still haven't looked at the Wikipedia article, as I have yet to read it, but it sure is tempting! Airplaneman talk 20:51, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to   Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than   Hunter Kahn (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to   Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! David Lewis Anderson

Hi Airplaneman, thank you for your patience with a new person on wikipedia. I hope you might help with two questions. 1) I'm struggling on this and some new articles with how to balance putting too many 3rd-party citations and not enough... balancing between being flagged as advertisement and not enough notability. Would you have any advice? 2) I also wanted to know if my responses on this article are suitable, both in tone and content. I know there is a culture and method on wikipedia and I just hope I responding in the appropriate manner. Thanks for your consideratin! Jennifer Sciencefrontiers42 (talk) 18:09, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

I doubt it would be an advertisement if he was notable enough that an effort would have to be made to make him seem notable... make sense? Just state what makes him notable. As for sources, 3rd party sources are actually encourages, as long as they are reliable. What responses to the article are you referring to? I'll take a look at the article and see what can be improved. If it gets deleted, ask an administrator (I am not one) to move it into a subpage of yours, in this case, User:Sciencefrontiers42/David Lewis Anderson. For now, keep looking for reliable sources, and don't hesitate to ask questions! Airplaneman talk 21:56, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi AirplaneMan. I am so confused. We did everyting asked. Even added scans of letters proving Dr. Andersons appointment by the United Nations, more 3rd part citations, and just checked the article and it was deleted! There was a lot of slander in some of the messages so it seems like vandalism. Please help, as a new person here I want to do the right thing but just don't know what to do. Sciencefrontiers42 (talk) 02:21, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm quite busy and will get in a more detailed response soon. Right now, you want to ask an administrator, such as the person who deleted the page (ask at User talk:Cirt) to restore the article to the subpage I mentioned above: User:Sciencefrontiers42/David Lewis Anderson. You may refer him to this discussion if you want. I noticed right away that the talk page comments were a bit bitey, but I will have to do more research before coming to a conclusion. Asking an administrator to restore the page to a subpage of yours lets you work on the page without the fear of it being deleted. Regards, Airplaneman talk 04:17, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Done, please see User:Sciencefrontiers42/David Lewis Anderson. Cirt (talk) 21:10, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. You know the PJTF is going to be featured in the Signpost's WikiProject report sometime soon? Airplaneman talk 04:38, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed. I thought about offering to do an interview, or help with the interview, but I'm not really a major PJTF editor - you would probably be better for that! PrincessofLlyr (talk) 04:42, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

I see. You are (I think) the second or third most active PJTF member... most sign up because they like the books and never edit again... which leads me considering conducting a role call. Airplaneman talk 04:46, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, now that I think about it, that's true. Which is funny, because Percy Jackson & the Olympians isn't really like my favorite book series of all time or anything - I was just interested in it when I started getting active here. I would be glad to participate in an interview if you think it would help. I think I saw one for a WikiProject (Novels, maybe?) where there were three or four editors all answering interview questions, so we could probably do that. I'm off for the night now, but I'll be back on tomorrow... PrincessofLlyr (talk) 04:51, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Yea, PJ isn't my favorite series either. The pages just need a lot of work, whereas Harry Potter pages are generally in good condition. Good night, Airplaneman talk 04:54, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

A PJTF question

What would you think about changing the character infoboxes to list less of the character's family? Say, immediate and demigod family, but not all the gods. I noticed that there has been a lot of changing around on that and since the demigods are almost all related to each other and all of the Greek gods in some way, I don't really think it's necessary to list, for instance, how Percy is related to Ares, Aphrodite, Artemis, Chiron, Kronos, etc. Did that make any sense? PrincessofLlyr (talk) 03:31, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Yea, definitely a good idea. Don't forget to leave a hidden message to tell people not to re-add them. Airplaneman talk 04:11, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Great! I'm mostly done. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 04:33, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Have you seen this: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters? One more of these and maybe we could get the name protected from recreation until an appropriate time? PrincessofLlyr (talk) 14:20, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

I think it's fine now as a redirect, but yea, I'll keep an eye on it. Airplaneman talk 22:12, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, that was the wrong link. What I meant to link was this: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. Sorry! Oh, and I've done both of the redirects already. Take a look and see what you think. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 22:20, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Thought I would alert you to this too: List of Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast members. Is that even something that's normally done? I suppose it could be useful if there are eventually films for all of the books and an article for the entire film series, but I'm kind of wondering if it's necessary right now. What do you think? PrincessofLlyr (talk) 04:23, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Yea, I agree entirely; it's not needed, but would be nice if films were made of every book. Airplaneman talk 04:46, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Great! I've adopted you :). Just a note: you don't have to join Wikiprojects to contribute to articles related to them, but they are a really good place to organize content by subject and to collaborate with other editors. Happy editing, Airplaneman talk 17:00, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your RfA Support

Airplaneman/Archive 7 - Thanks for your participation and support in my recent successful RfA. Your confidence and trust in me is much appreciated. As a new admin I will try hard to keep from wading in too deep over the tops of my waders, nor shall I let the Buffalo intimidate me.--Mike Cline (talk) 09:30, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Do you like my new signature (Belugaboy535136 Talk to Me!). I think it works better than the old one, because the only link to my userpage was at my talk page. I don't know what I was thinking with my old one. Toodaloo, Belugaboy535136 Talk to Me! 13:34, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello Airman, I am seeking adoption and noticed you on the adopters board. I would be very greateful if you helped me out, and teach me how to use wikipedia. I noticed you talking about percy jackson and the olympians, I really love the books and read all of them, I see we have a few interests in common and I would really apreciate your help. --Muffins222 (talk) 17:35, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
