Thanks for that. How do I export MediaWiki:Monobook.css and MediaWiki:Common.css to my wiki?? Thanks, --Solumeiras talk 16:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello!

Hello Ais523. How are you? Today I completed my second month on Wikipedia. I think Wikipedia is a great place. And, I hope you are doing well. Regards, Masterpiece2000 12:24, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Meta-Wiki

Hello Ais523. How are you? I created an account on Meta-Wiki and I have not done anything. What can I do on Meta-Wiki? Regards, Masterpiece2000 05:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply. Now I know what meta-wiki is. I also think that I should be active on Meta-Wiki. I will discuss about meta-wiki in the near future. Regards, Masterpiece2000 12:33, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer to my question

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2007-12-03/Technology report- You forgot Gadgets!

You forgot about mw:Extension:Gadgets (which is now installed) even though you were the one who proposed to add it to the English Wikipedia. :P Shouldn't something like Gadgets be somewhere in there? FunPika 10:46, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Watchlistnotifier suggestions

Hi, I like your watchlistnotifier. May I suggest you add a link to the watchlist at the end of the notification text (or simply linkify the whole text?) -- Ddxc 14:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Cool, thanks! Wikipedia:WikiProject_User_scripts/Scripts says "Places a message at the top of the screen whenever your watchlist has changed since you last looked at it"; this doesn't seem to work for me, the message is always is displayed. Is this a known bug, or is it supposed to work? (It's not important though, I don't really mind if the message is always displayed.) -- Ddxc 16:02, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Admins

Hello Ais523. I have few questions about admins. Here are the questions:

  1. An administrator or sysops have more power than other users. Let's say that an admin blocked a user without a reason. What will happen to the admin? Will he lose his power?
  2. An admin can also delete articles. What will happen if an admin delete an important article? Let's say an admin delete the article Sociology. What will happen? Should we have to re-create the whole article?
  3. An admin can also see deleted article. Can you explain me about it? What happens to delete articles or categories?

Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 03:58, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Reply

WOW! Main Page was deleted? Amazing! Thank you for the reply. And, how important is it for someone to have strong password? You said 'several administrator accounts were hacked into'. How is that possible? Was that because the admin had weak password? The deletion of Main Page is one of the most amazing thing I have ever heard in my life! I will try to get more information about it!

When I clicked on Special:Undelete, the reply was: The action you have requested is limited to users in the group Administrators. So you are right! Who are Oversights and developers? I know about admins and bureaucrats. I know about their power. Who are Oversights, Developers, and Stewards? Right now, I am an ordinary user. And, how can I climb up the ladder? I mean...everybody like to reach the top. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 12:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply. Your reply has helped me to understand Wikipedia better. Now I am understanding few things about the inner workings of Wikipedia. I have more questions and I will ask them in future. Anyway, thank you for the reply. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 05:05, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
I just read few amazing stuff! Even the account of Jimbo Wales was blocked! Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 05:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello. You commented at

Happy Holidays

2 questions about monobook

Hello, AIS523, me again, Jerry. I recently was made an administrator, and I also recently enabled popups through the checkbox my user preferences. I realize now however, that the handy feature that told me the latest change to an item in my watchlist is not working. Do you think this is because of popups, or possibly a script collission due to own name highlighting and admin name highlighting? I really would like to get this feature back.

Nevermind this part is somehow fixed, now... don't know why. JERRY talk contribs 03:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Second, is there an easy way to add a "purge server cache" button for the active page at the top by way of a monobook script? I find I have to frequently manually purge Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, and it would be a nice tool to have all the time. Thanks, JERRY talk contribs 00:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind about this part too... I actually figured out how to do it!!! (pats self on back). JERRY talk contribs 03:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for making my account :) Christian Richard (talk) 00:25, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Protection

Hi Ais, I'm picking on you because I saw your name at the top of the Signpost Technology report. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Un-semiprotecting, there's a suggestion (by me) that we change the protection page so there's a default period of a month there, thus requiring the protecting admin to actively change a page if they want to protect a page indefinitely. The feedback seems to be all in favour of the change. Of course, I have no idea how this would be accomplished - is it through a change to the MediaWiki interface? Or would I have to register and learn how to use Bugzilla to file a request? Neıl 14:27, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

User:Ais523/stubtagtab.js

Or not about that directly, but rather, the underlying idea. Have you given any thought to a stub-tagging (and ideally, also stub-sorting) script that uses menus? I keep meaning to look into this, but my javascript sucks (a lot), and I repeatedly fail to get around to it. Alai (talk) 00:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Understood, and as I've been procrastinating about looking into it myself for months, a week or two seems eminently reasonable. Actually, I'll probably be even less active myself between now and early January, so I'll perhaps get back to you around then. Alai (talk) 15:49, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

That's pretty darn good! This would be adaptable to use trees with different "fanout", so's to make for shorter lists to scroll through, wouldn't it? Alai (talk) 00:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Signpost

I just saw the message you left in the Newsroom. I am happy to have a try at your report if you want. Is it just getting bugs off Bugzilla, and new features (off Wikipedia:VP)? Also, I cannot do your report for 2/1. If you could reply ASAP, that would be nice so I could start. -- Whiteandnerdy111 (talk) 19:24, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

Hello Ais523! Happy New Year! Masterpiece2000 (talk) 08:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Majorly's sysop bit has been restored[1], so he should be readded to User:Ais523 non-admin/adminrights.js. I dorfbaertalk I 10:30, January 1, 2008

On an unrelated note, wouldn't it be a good idea to redirect User talk:Ais523 non-admin and User talk:Ais523 non-admin/adminrights.js to this talk page? I dorfbaertalk I 10:36, January 1, 2008 —Preceding comment was added at 10:36, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Use of #ifexist

Thanks for your note about the .check-icon class in MediaWiki:Common.css and while I hadn't previously been aware that it would now work where there was a commons-but-no-local image I am also aware that there is a test limit of, iirc, 100 uses per page. The page concerned (User:AlisonW/Rail Icons - kept in userspace because it can't be used by screen readers or non-CSS browsers) would presently have 7,740 calls to the function and would - clearly - be a far too heavy load on the servers. I tried testing many other methods before taking the decisions to copy the style across from meta but would welcome practical and sensible alteratives. --AlisonW (talk) 20:22, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Well the real advantage of using a css class of course is that it produces *no* load on the servers, solely on the user's browser (which is close to zero too). I recoded the meta version to a name specific to the planned use as I'd noted a discussion in December regarding a hidden-redlink class that didn't go anywhere. The issue boils down to screen readers and non-CSS capable browsers. --AlisonW (talk) 20:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Nice to see you again!

BRION

He Ais523, I made a change to this weeks BRION, but perhaps you might want to further copy edit that specific line. It's not real easy understanding that line. --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 21:18, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Toronto Stock Exchange

Just wanted to say thanks once again for the helpful suggestion yesterday - it was much appreciated! My left hand is starting to cramp from all the cutting, pasting, and formatting, but the changeover is done now.

Only problem that I've ended up with is as a result of redirecting the original page to the new category. I had to fix some double redirects, and those redirected pages are now showing in that category too, which isn't ideal.

Again, much thanks! Mlaffs (talk) 02:19, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

That clock...

you know the clock you allowed me to use? well how can i set it to Pacific Standard Time? I tried to do so, but it doesnt work; can you tell me how to set it to UTC-8? thanks

here is the clock:

The time is 18:48.

Hey its your creation! you can tweak it to the right time and other UTCs, right?

PS: Its set on UTC+2 isn't it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darth Chyrsaor (talkcontribs) 22:17, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you ais523Spartan-112 (talk) 01:40, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

PS: i remembered to sign it this time!!!

Regarding linking

When you create stories related to BRION, it might be easiest to place them at User:ais523/Signpost/Name, where "Name" is a really short description (e.g. for this story, "New parser", "Parser", etc.) that can be used in the footer when I publish. I'll leave that name intact when I move the page. If you do that, you can link the stories together yourself (like you did at the bottom of the parser story), and they'll turn blue when we publish. It's not a big deal, but it should make things a bit easier for both of us. Ral315 (talk) 00:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Watch list notifier

Do you mind if I use it? Where did the script come from? Cheers. Earthbendingmaster 21:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! Do you think this will eventually become part of the software, which users could turn on in their preferences? Earthbendingmaster 16:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Strange technical glitch

Was wondering if you knew what this was about? Dropping by here (instead of VP-tech), because I wanted to let you know that I enjoy reading your BRION reports for the Signpost! Carcharoth (talk) 05:05, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's due to the new preprocessor. The way that <includeonly> works internally changed; this was not meant to affect the way that it works with legitimate uses (when the tag is matched), but in this case there was an unmatched tag, and the new preprocessor acted as if the close tag was at the end of the page (this is consistent with other tags; some users have been known to use this method to place a <div> around their entire user talk page for styling purposes), whereas the old preprocessor rendered it literally because it was invalid markup. --ais523 15:02, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. This is why I'm careful about using emoticon tags like <sarcasm>. I'm never quite sure whether that (or a more likely example) will one day become an "unmatched tag"! Just to be safe: </sarcasm> :-) How successful was the rollout of the new preprocessor, anyway? Will there be something on that in the next BRION report? Carcharoth (talk) 01:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
It went pretty well. I already wrote about it here, as well as giving a more technical view of what had been fixed in that week's BRION; I probably won't write about it again unless new major issues come up, or new bugs related to it are found. --ais523 11:56, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

AutoAFD

Do you know if the AutoAFD script still works? It doesn't seem to for me (I've removed it for the moment, trying to get Twinkle to work with the Modern skin for me). It looks like you were the last one to make any changes to it, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks, Avruchtalk 16:04, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

User:Ais523/watchlistnotifier.js

Hey Ais523, is there a way to make your watchlist notifier script so that it won't show edits made by yourself?--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 01:04, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Hmm I see. Well okay. Hey I have another question, for this script you stated that it tells you when someone edits your userpage. Can you explain more about it?--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 23:38, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey

Can any of these cool admins help me? I want to add one sentence to the world of Wikipedia. But I can't. The sentence is factual, provable, (based on the New York Times for goodness sake) but I can't get it on.

Fact: Circumcision decreases a man's risk of getting HIV Fact: Circmcision INcreases a man's risk of getting herpes and chlamydia.

The article on "circumcision" mentions the term HIV probably 100 times (I'm not joking) and mentions "herpes" or "chlamydia" not Once.

Can any of you cool administrators stop two guys named Avraham and Jakew from deleting my ONE sentence I want to add? Thanks, 70.114.38.167 (talk) 06:14, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

User:Ais523/stubtagtab2.js

No matter what stub type I choose, I get the error "Could not fetch stub type data." without fail. Please help? Gary King (talk) 08:38, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I think I've fixed it; bypass your cache if you are using this script. --ais523 13:19, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Works now, but the small text for stubs with lots of sub categories, like Geography, is too small to read, at least for me. I would suggest making it into a clickable tree to expand all the way, rather than having only one link to click on (the very top-level one) so that not everything has to load at once. Basically, click on the first top-level stub, like Geography, then the next category, like United Kingdom building and structure stubs, and so on. Gary King (talk) 15:11, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, and question about mediaiwki version

Thanks for your signpost articles, and your scripts. I've found them enormously useful.

I noticed on Village pump (technical) a bug in the latest editredlink code. I was going to report it to bugzilla, but I noticed it was *already* fixed in subversion (r31218). However, en.wikipedia.org is running an older version (r31183). Do you know what sort of schedule is used to update en.wikipedia.org's version of mediawiki?

I feel I should mention it again, thanks very much for your signpost article. It is simple, clear, concise, and makes it possible to keep up with the code changes. JackSchmidt (talk) 20:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

It's called a SCAP (synchronize all common PHP) and it's done irregularly, but generally at least once a week. Generally it's Tim Starling or Brion Vibber who does it, and it usually simply depends on much code there is to review and how busy they are. On occasion, the scap will be held up by schema database changes. --MZMcBride (talk) 20:53, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks for the quick reply. I think that means my comment on VP/T about when it will be fixed is fine. Should be within a week, and I think people can wait that long to have a rare user-interface quirk fixed (all the links are available, just in an unusual place). BTW is it a weird coincidence that the code reviewer and the code review are both called BRION? Well I guess technically one is called "Brion Vibber" and the other is called "Bugs, Repairs, and Internal Operational News", but it seems fishy to me :) Thanks again, JackSchmidt (talk) 21:00, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I don't know for certain (it predates the time I started writing for the Signpost), but it strikes me has probably having been deliberate. (The fact that "The Report on Lengthy Litigation" is an acronym for TROLL seems to lend evidence to this theory.) --ais523 09:57, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Help regarding bold in watchlists

On my user talk page I have a section called Help regarding bold in watchlists. In it, I explain that I'm trying to get my watchlist to make bold the page titles of any new changes since my last viewing. Like how WoWWiki does it. User:Ais523 non-admin/adminrights.js

Hey, this is a very useful script! One problem, though. I see new admins come up very often, and I would like to update this page (sure others want to too). I was thinking you might want to move that to the Wikipedia namespace (or just remove the JS at the end), so other people can update it. It would reduce the amount of time you would have to update it (the last time it was updated was February 18). Do you think that would be a good idea? Thanks, Soxred93 | talk bot 06:04, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Template:Redirect-Class

Hello, I had requested an edit to the above template a week or so ago on its talk page. You replied that the edit had been completed, but no change was made to the template. I was just checking up to see if this was a mistake or if the request was declined. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:28, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah, ok. Thanks! Unfortunately, I just realized I messed up the code - the category link should be displayed as this: [[:{{{category}}}|Redirect]] so that the link actually appears. Otherwise we just get this gray box with no words in it (see Talk:6.5x39mm). If you wouldn't mind fixing it again.... Sorry! Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:52, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

2 Stug Tag Tab scripts in WikiProject User scripts/Scripts

There are 2 different copies of your Stug Tag Tab: Stug tag tab in Tagging and stugtagtab.js in Links/shortcuts. Is the one in the Tagging section more recent? Would you also remove the obsolete one? Thanks. Temporal User (Talk) 23:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Dear Sir,

I have received a message from you informing me of the deletion of 'spam links' inserted by me and am very distressed by being termed as such. I think it only proper to clarify my actions as well as know how I can add links without running foul of Wikipedia policy which I can assure you I respect as much as anybody. My goal is to to make quality content available free for use, very much in line with your 'copyleft policy' of which I stronly advocate. I also intend to upload content onto Wikipedia in the near future.

Mine is a personal website on themes on India and "Paintings on Stamps'(Art and Philately being my passion). It is my endevour to make my site an educational reference site, and therefore have taken care to add content from really authentic sources.

You must be aware than content on India and Philately is still very scarce on the internet and needs to be seen in that context. I request you to see my site in detail and then decide if it is unique, different and detailed enough to merit a link. I have added links when I have felt that it genuinly adds value and information from another angle on the page thay are placed on

I do agree that the links that I have added are from my personal site which also bring in more persons to read my contents but that is not the only reason nor the primary one.Although the site has Ads from Google, Amazon, let me assure you the income is very secondary and anyway hardly covers my hosting cost.

While I respect your policy not to make Wikipedia a collection of links and endorse it, I think it would be a mistake to 'throw the baby out with the bath tub'. There must be a way to add genuine links after due scrutiny by experienced editors (as in the case of DMOZ). Please do tell me how I can do so without running foul with Wikipedia policy.

I shall be grateful for your time and advice on the matter.

With kind regards,
