Sorry for the delay in replying Alevero. I think that if the English language is actually mentioned by name in the constitution, then it IS recognized for some purposes, although the obvious thrust of the thing is that Malay should be the primary language. That's only my opinion and I'm no constitutional expert. It seems to me to be a rather minor quibble and I won't object if you decide to remove English from the refbox. I apologize for the delay to your query. Your message was reverted and I've only noticed it today.

Well, since it is stated clearly in the Constitution that all official documents must have an accompanying English counterpart, I believe that the term 'Recognised' can be seen as a proper description for the English language in Brunei.

However, saying that, I would also caution against the change and I would recommend having a discussion in the article's talkpage to reach a consensus in this matter.

Recognition of English

The Constitution of Brunei certainly "recognizes" English. It requires that all laws be published in English. While English is not an "official language" in Brunei, it is accurate to say that English is "recognized as a language for official communications" there.
