Sandbagging user

You might want to look at the edit summaries that user:sandbagging left around on the articles he vandalized. They are offensive/need to be suppressed. Thanks Hmains (talk) 04:04, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Nice headshot. Boy was that editor prolific. May I suggest you change his block notice to "spam/advertising" so he clearly knows why he got booted? He'll only deny the vandalism angle I feel... he had a lot to post while I was cleaning up, I dare say he has the time to complain. -- Longhair\talk 12:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Reverted edits by Kennethchenderson (talk) to last version by Bbb23

Hello and thanks for the guidance on the use of external links. As a new Wikipedia contributor, I am still learning the rules while hopefully avoiding any substantial violations. Regarding the removal of the ==Children== section entirely, that's a bit unfair. This section has existed since 2016 and I'm fine with removal of the external link, but as I indicated in the 5 November 2016 edit, I am verifiably the son of Eddie Henderson and wanted to simply update my geographic location in the edit. Please restore the ==Children== section removed by Bbb23 and without the external link. Thank you. kenchenderson (talk) 04:53, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Alexf. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

IP 125.212.184.150

Hi Alexf. You blocked IP 125.212.184.150 for a few days at the end of last month, but he/she appears to be back as 125.212.178.30 trying to make the same changes to articles related to flags. There have been a couple of IP 125s over the past month making similar edits to similar articles and I think this is probably the same person hoping from one IP to another. Not sure what to do about this, but maybe you have a suggestion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:57, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Bellhops (company)/Campus Bellhops deletions

Hi, I was in the process of posting a histmerge notice on Bellhops (company) for merging in Campus Bellhops when you deleted article as "Unambiguous advertising or promotion". (I also tagged the article and the User:Bellhopsmarketing account as COI, so I'm aware of the issues involved.) From a cursory reading of the main article, even after the company account had edited it, it did not rise to the level of "Unambiguous advertising or promotion", in my opinion. I believe it's issues could have been addressed without resorting to deletion. I assume you reviewed the history versions well enough to form a different opinion. However, I was not able to review all of the historical versions before they were deleted. I'm not intending to spend a lot of time on the article, having never heard of the company before today (and am totally unaffiliated with the company or anyone involved with it at any level), but I did believe I could improve the article enough for it to be retained. Are there any options you would consider at this point? Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 20:33, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

@BilCat: The only option, provided you want to work on them, is to undelete into your sandbox. If you want them there, say so. Your choice. -- Alexf(talk) 21:41, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

I rather not. Never done one and might screw it up, plus short on time to research it. Sorry. -- Alexf(talk) 22:14, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
No problem. Do you mind if I ask another admin who does histmerges, or tag it? I wasn't.sure if you'd have any other objections based on it being a userfication. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 22:56, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

Merry Merry

  Happy Christmas!
Hello Alexf,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 07:45, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Tamimi Group

Would you consider restoring Tamimi Group (and its talkpage)? The article may not have had great sourcing (WP:NEXIST however), but even the briefest of Google searches leads to the obvious conclusion that the subject meets our threshold for inclusion. "Major Companies of the Arab World" since 1988, a leading engineering and construction firm in Saudi Arabia, and many more. No prejudice against an AfD nom if you so desire. Thanks! Ben · Salvidrim!  08:31, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

@Salvidrim!: Moved to User:Salvidrim!/Tamimi Group for you to work on then. --- Alexf(talk) 09:08, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
I don't think I mentioned any specific intention to "work on it". So... I'll just move it back to mainspace, ok? I'll do some minor wikifying and throw in a source or three. You can AfD if you think the article subject may not meet the inclusion criteria? (Please also restore the talkpage, 10+ years of history is significant). :) Ben · Salvidrim!  09:10, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Deleted Article, Abortion in Ghana

Hi Alexf!

I noticed you deleted an old post, Abortion in Ghana, (link here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Abortion_in_Ghana&action=edit&redlink=1). I was wondering, since I'm working on a new one, whether you could share any lessons from the old one with me, or perhaps the actual text, so I do not repeat its mistakes.

@Blaykyi: What I deleted (back in 2017) was not an article but a Cross-namespace redirect. The article is still in draft form at Draft:Abortion in Ghana if you want to work on it. -- Alexf(talk) 13:12, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Bad idea

I thought that this was a bad idea. Then I saw you are an admin. I still think it was a bad idea when a friendly word may have helped. Do please take a look again at a new editor who has only made good faith edits. Thanks. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 16:20, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

@Roxy the dog:. If you check Filter 149 (from UAA) you will see that he attempted several times to add links to his own website. New user needing guidance? Maybe, but I take a dim view of people spamming their own website, commercial or otherwise. -- Alexf(talk) 16:55, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
I don't need to look at any filter, I watch the page Ferryhill. I'm thinking of removing your caution, on the page of a harmless local historian. I appreciate your motivation, but he wasn't spamming in the way we mean it. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 17:05, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
@Roxy the dog:. Ok. I'm out the door now and no time, so if you want to replace it with a note explaining the issues, go ahead. I won't argue. -- Alexf(talk) 17:15, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks Alex, I decided not to remove the caution, but posted a little encouragement on the page instead. It was only a caution afterall. Your understanding is appreciated. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 17:35, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I recently added a few links to List_of_geodesic_polyhedra_and_Goldberg_polyhedra that were reverted. The situation is as follows: many years ago I made a tool for visualizing general polyhedra classes. At some point someone maintaining that page added a bunch of links to that tool for visualizing particular polyhedra entries in that page. I was alerted to this recently and noticed a few missing links that I was able to fill in due to upgrades I had made to the geometric primitives the visualization tool could perform. I stress that I didn't create most links in the first place, but feel that if they're going to link to my old tool, it might as well be more complete. Unfortunately the old hosted github url has my name in it so it triggers the automatic filter. Thanks. User:levskaya (talk)Levskaya (talk) 19:15, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

I understand your comments, but there is not much I can do to alter the filters. I wouldn't do that in any case. They are there for a reason. Make an entry at ANI if you must. I must warn you that it looks and feels like spamming your own work, which is not acceptable in Wikipedia. -- Alexf(talk) 23:03, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

I am not asking to change the default filters. As I said, I wasn't the one who linked polyhedronisme on that page in the first place! I just fixed a few links for entries that were missing there - seriously, check the page history, I've never touched it before. There are very few / zero functional sites online that can render many of the more complex polyhedra. I just happened to be involved in a noncommercial, open-source visualizer that several people have contributed to over the last eight years and that many math nerds use. Look man, I really really couldn't care less if polyhedronisme is linked here or not, I was trying to improve the links that someone else made after someone contacted me about a missing entry. What is the standard etiquette here? I'd sincerely like to know. I can refer the main contributors of the page to the updated changes to the visualization tool if I'm going to be called out as a mathematical spammer every time I fix the links ;) User:levskaya (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:46, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

I would suggest you ask at the Tea House for advice, or open a case at ANI as mentioned. I do not have the time to check every post to that page, as I have to handle hundreds a day already, plus what the filters report. There are ways to do it, but as long as you point to your own work or site/sub-site, the filters will react. -- Alexf(talk) 01:53, 18 January 2019 (UTC) -- Alexf(talk) 01:53, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Your dedication is much appreciated. Thanks for your time and the pointers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Levskaya (talkcontribs) 05:49, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Recreating a page that has been deleted

Hello,

It has been deleted because it was in draft mode for over six months. I'd like to pick up where I left off, if possible. I have followed the steps to undelete the page, but I'm hoping that you are able to retrieve the content that was on the page.

It is interesting to me that you are asking others to be polite, but you are allowing yourself to be rude! First off, I think you really need to educate yourself about how to respond to a message appropriately. Also I believe you are the person who needs to understand Wikipedia at the very first place. I am just gonna give you an example among millions of biographies that you may find (of course if you bother yourself!) that have been published here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Paul_Rodrigue ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aminghazanfari4real (talkcontribs) 15:43, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

You mention biographies. The one you pointed to is not an autobiography as yours is. Wikipedia is not a place for self-advertisement. I also pointed you to the conflicts of interest page. It reads almost like a CV or résumé, which again, this is not the place for. Please remember to always start a new section at the bottom of talk pages, lest the message be mixed with whatever other subject was there before, and always sign your posts in Talk with four tildes at the end. If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, please ask at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 15:57, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Incorrect Deletion

Hi I believe you mistakenly marked my article for speedy deletion for advertising, for which my article for kaizen restaurants ltd was purely for informative purposes and not to advertise products or services.

Many thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheStrider99 (talkcontribs) 16:58, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

@TheStrider99:. No such article at that link. A little digging shows you are referring to Draft:Kaizen Restaurants Ltd. I did not mark that article for deletion. Someone else did. I deleted it under CSD G11 - Unambiguous advertising or promotion. It read like an advertisement of a chain of restaurants. No substantial sources to even show notability, so it would have been a toss up on which reason to delete under (CSD G1 or A7). If you want to work on it, and can provide reliable sources, I'd be willing to restore it to your sandbox. Just not to a draft to be published, where it might get it deleted again for the same reasons. Always remember to sign your posts in Talk with four tildes at the end. -- Alexf(talk) 18:19, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

I didn't mean to submit it yet as it wasn't referenced, so apologies on my part for doing that. If you are able to restore it to my sandbox I would highly appreciate it. Many thanks --TheStrider99 (talk) 20:59, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

I'm also seeing no abuse filter hits, and no deleted contributions, so this looks to me like a hugely disproportionate response from what I can see. Am I missing something blindingly obvious here? Please can you take another look at this? Cheers stwalkerster (talk) 23:48, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

@Stwalkerster: Was a case of a simple mistake/misread in one of his postings. Unblocked. Thanks for the heads up. -- Alexf(talk) 23:56, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Block of Jeeibleh

Hi Alex. The block rationale here is "vandalism"; I confess, I'm not seeing anything in their recent edits that looks vandalish. The edits to Fashion boot are inappropriate trivia, granted, but not vandalism by my count - am I missing something glaringly obvious here? Yunshui  23:50, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

@Yunshui: Was a case of a simple mistake/misread in one of his postings. Unblocked. Thanks for the heads up. Moral: do it after coffee, not before. -- Alexf(talk) 23:56, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for that. We've all had those pre-coffee moments... Yunshui  23:57, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

User talk:99.71.105.55

You might want to take a look at recent edits made by User talk:99.71.105.55, who you recently blocked temporarily. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:12, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Is it vandalism? I do not know enough about music so unless it is blatant, I can't do much. Some of the edits I see are decent (e.g. removing non-reliable sources like Wordpress blogs). In any case, please report at AIV when properly warned user. Posting in talk page might not get you a response for days if I'm out. -- Alexf(talk) 01:35, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Money ?

If you don't mind may you tell me that if wikipedia gives you salary? Please reply me. Jay prakash bais (talk) 21:32, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

No, we are volunteers that believe in the project. There are very few salaried people at the Wikimedia Foundation. Mostly Software Developers, Hardware and database engineers, and a few people in management and clerical duties. Editors and Admins are all volunteers. --- Alexf(talk) 23:27, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

98.102.12.250

On 12 March 2018 you blocked 98.102.12.250 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) with an expiration time of 1 year. The block recently expired and the IP went straight back to vandalizing. --Guy Macon (talk) 17:09, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

That's what AIV is for. - Blocked. -- Alexf(talk) 18:05, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Zee Keralam

Hi, I am ZaxoteZ. Please move Zee Keralam page from Draft to a normal page. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Zee_Keralam ZaxoteZ (talk) 18:14, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Sorry but there is a group of people that check on submissions and approve them. I do not have the time. You know if it follows the Golden Rule, you can move it yourself. -- Alexf(talk) 09:29, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Just (watching), Alexf, but I think the reason they're asking here is because it's curently [protected]—for your info. ——SerialNumber54129 09:57, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

A channel named zee keralam existing in kerala Please DO NOT DELETE anything from the " List of Malayalam-language television channels, " page.... and if you can move 'zee keralam' page as an article because it's protected Tonyjaimy (talk) 10:05, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! I wondered if anyone noticed. Time flies! -- Alexf(talk) 09:29, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Permission

Can you grant me the Confirmed users rights? I am here to fight vandalism but the bot keeps reporting me (currently the 5th time, rejected by you as a false positive). Do grant me this permission so it will be easier me to revert stuff without being reported. Thanks. Quail Armor (talk) 14:44, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

@Quail Armor:   Done - one thing you are not doing right is a) too fast (triggers the bots and there is no hurry), b) you do not leave warnings to the users, telling them what they did wrong. Repeated warnings allows us to block the account if warranted. -- Alexf(talk) 14:48, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Will try to leave warnings as much as possible from now on. Thank you. Quail Armor (talk) 14:53, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Templates for Warning Users - [[WP:USETEMP]] --Guy Macon (talk) 15:52, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Uh, @Alexf: can I ask what compelled you to give a less than 24 hour old account any perms? Quite concerning that they racked up almost 1k edits and haven't even been registered for 24 hours. I might be missing something here but they popped up in a filter and you can imagine my surprise when I noticed they'd been here only a day. Praxidicae (talk) 15:48, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
@Praxidicae: That is a good question. I saw they are making good vandalism patrol, albeit without leaving warnings (which I mentioned to the user). I keep monitoring for a while, and can be revoked if warranted. TBH I did not realize the account was that young. That is my fault for not checking more thoroughly during a busy moment. My bad. I appreciate your heads up. I will monitor closely to see their progress. -- Alexf(talk) 15:54, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Why autopatrolled, though? That's not what it's for. JJMC89 was right to remove that. ~ Amory (utc) 15:56, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Right. My mistake. Note to self: don't do this before coffee. I left a note at the user's talk page. Will monitor daily. (Note: I thanked User:JJMC89 for the fix) -- Alexf(talk) 15:59, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Deletion

Thank you for deleting my article. When the company hits $400 Million in revenue, I will politely remind you about it. --NginyaDen (talk) 15:12, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Are you talking about Pace Africa? That was a copyright violation. As such it cannot stay. It has nothing to do with revenue, as you seem to think per your comment. -- Alexf(talk) 15:46, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Do Draft:PACE Africa and User:NginyaDen/sandbox have the same content as the deleted Pace Africa? --Guy Macon (talk) 16:03, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
The draft article still contains copyrighted material. [5] ___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 17:29, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Plagiat2002 / Comparison of anti-plagiarism software

Strike Plagiarims System is not promotional material. its the same system as for example Turnitin or PlagScan, which are already published. Why do you censure Strike Plagiarims system?

The page specifically says not to add entries to the list which do not have an article already in the English Wikipedia. Yet you added a link to a company (spam), detailing what the software can do (advertising). -- Alexf(talk) 10:14, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Page Vishnupriya Ravi

Hi, when I tried to create the page for Vishnupriya Ravi it is showing that you delete the page before. I have read the CSD but don't know the exact reason as I am unable to see the page or history. So now I am here on behalf of the person Vishnupriya Ravi herself, to create the page, and as per wiki rules. So please help or allow me to go forward. Thank You SidhardhRamesh 💬 11:47, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

@SidhardhRamesh: The article was done by one user in early 2014. The article did not show proper sourcing and was tagged accordingly, then nominated for deletion. The original author blanked the page, thereby requesting it be deleted. You are saying the subject herself asked you to write an article? That would be a conflict of interest and would require you register as a paid author. Please read the linked pages before you proceed. If you have any questions, please ask at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 17:57, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Could you please explain...

I was very surprised to see you deleted Port security grants as an r3, "implausible redirect".

It should have pointed to Department_of_Homeland_Security_Port_Security_Grant.

If it pointed somewhere else, somewhere significantly different, that was either a mistake or vandalism.

I'd really appreciate an explanation. Geo Swan (talk) 02:59, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

That was back in January. Someone posted a CSD that seemed ok at the time. I'll take you at your word. Restored. -- Alexf(talk) 14:30, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
Okay thanks.
Could you do me a favour?
129.100.255.31 is one of the anonymous IP addresses a horrible relentless wikistalker uses to disrupt my contributions, even after a well deserved indefinite block. They have used at least 75 different IP address, so far, to make hundreds of edits to disrupt my contributions.
They made identical vandalism to another redirect, FEMA port security grant. You can look at their deleted edits. Could you check to see whether there are any other deleted edits, from this IP address, from January 21st, where they succeeded in getting other similar redirects deleted?
Thanks Geo Swan (talk) 05:44, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
No they did not. That was the one on Jan 21st and it was promptly restored by another admin. -- Alexf(talk) 20:11, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
