Blocked

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Your utterly ridiculous edit to William Shakespeare, who was alive well before the establishment of the United Kingdom in any form, shows that you're not here for the right reasons. Other users besides me have reverted your edits. You are not welcome here. Graham87 (talk) 15:02, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

That's a very rude thing to say. Alexinnq (talk) 19:32, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

instead of advising me of editorial policy you blocked me. I did nothing malicious and was editing according to what I thought to be correct. Shouldn't the policy be to change back my edit and advise me of editorial policy, instead of sending me a rude message saying: you're not welcome here? Is Wikipedia an exclusive club or open to different people? And shouldn't the action be to advise someone of editorial policy or their error? Alexinnq (talk) 20:51, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Further to that, I am Welsh and I don't see the country as being England, when it is the United Kingdom. That is why I made some edits. I was unaware of any editorial policy regarding that, and so I think the first step should have been to make me aware of a policy, and make me aware of an error. I actually find it quite offensive that I was trying to contribute, and I was simply told "you are not welcome here" and blocked. That seems totally high-handed and unprofessional. I am not sure what I am accused of doing. But I thought wikipedia was meant to be a group effort, and I was attempting to join in, only to be literally told "you are not welcome"Alexinnq (talk) 21:03, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Anyway, as I said. I made some changes to the designation of England versus United Kingdom because being Welsh I feel that the designation should not be England. Maybe there is a policy, maybe someone just disagrees with my edit. But I thought part of the point of wikipedia is that people edit and discuss. I was really shocked to receive the message "you are not welcome here". I did absolutely nothing malicious or offensive, and instead received an offensive message. I am really really disappointed by this behaviour. I thought that Wikipedia editors were more professional than this. Alexinnq (talk) 21:11, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I would've given you the benefit of the doubt and linked you to the essay Wikipedia:Nationality of people from the United Kingdom (which shows how controversial such changes can be) if it wasn't for the Shakespeare edit. So far, you've just been a disruptive single-purpose account and we don't have much time for those here. If you have an example of a constructive change you'd like to make, let us know and you may be unblocked, as long as you promise not to make arbitrary nationality changes. The fact that you created your account a year ago but only started editing fairly recently is also puzzling. I've taken the liberty of condensing your three unblock requests into one. Graham87 (talk) 01:59, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
You mention that this is controversial, I agree. There are several schools of thought. But how is being rude to me and blocking me when I make a change that I think makes something more factually accurate a way to solve that? I was not aggressive or rude or offensive to anyone. I sought to remove controversy by applying an umbrella term instead of an opinion based term that some may disagree with. There is so much interesting discussion that could be had about that, and that could have happened, and an interesting and respectful discussion could even have come out of it. But instead of reverting my change and leaving an explanatory note in the thread, you seem to have decided I have a no doubt to you, but to me as of yet unclear, ulterior and sinister motive. This resulted in you effectively doing the following - I disagree with your edit, blocked, send rude message. Instead of you reviewing your own block and continuing to send aggressive messages, I would like you to pass this on to someone who can handle this professionally and dispassionately. Alexinnq (talk) 09:17, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's what the unblock template is for and no-one else has responded yet, which speaks volumes. As I implied above, they should only be used once; I've refactored your comment accordingly. Your opinions hold little weight here as an allegedly new editor. Graham87 (talk) 09:36, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Your tone throughout has been very aggressive and disappointing. I have not been rude or aggressive, but you continually insult me in every response. There is absolutely no need for it, and you should not be behaving in that way. Alexinnq (talk) 09:54, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me that you ought to restrain yourself, and try to communicate in a calm and measured way. Alexinnq (talk) 09:57, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Graham87 isn't reviewing the block, but they are permitted to comment on their own block.
I'll be honest in that I'm not sure I would have reacted in the same way in terms of blocking you, but I wasn't Graham87 at that moment in time. That said, his requests for unblocking you are not unreasonable- please agree to not make arbitrary nationality changes, and given an example of an edit you are looking to make. 331dot (talk) 11:09, 25 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
