Dear Alexpax, You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 00:19, 10 January 2022 (UTC) To opt out of future mailings about LA meetups, please remove your name from this list. |

Getty Villa photos
editHello,
I do posts, videos, and other educational resources on Mesoamerican (Aztec, Maya etc) history and archeology and have begun to also edit Wikipedia. I've also long taken photos at museum exhibits, with the goal always being to eventually upload to Wikimedia.
I'm reaching out because i'm trying to find a photographer who also contributes to Wikimedia located in Los Angeles who might be interested in taking photos of the Maya and Moche ceramics on display at the "Picture Worlds: Greek, Maya, and Moche Pottery" exhibit, and to then upload said photos to Wikimedia Commons with a CC-BY or CC-BY-SA license. The exhibit is running at the Getty Villa, which is open till the end of the month. Sadly, I'm not in that part of the country, and I can't travel to attend myself.
I saw you were in a few Wikipedia/data Los Angeles groups, and contribute photos to iNaturalist, and was wondering if you were interested in that, or maybe knew other users who do photography (especially if at a professional level) who might be, etc? I'm open to paying you/others for the trouble.
Thank you,

- Hi @MajoraZ! Thanks for your message. I don't think I'll make it to the Getty Villa this month, but I'll let you know if my plans change. Alexpax (talk) 23:04, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
Edit-a-thon August 24
edit
August 24: Not just an edit-a-thon, an edit-a-thon in Manhattan Beach.
Please join WikiLA at an edit-a-thon to improve and create articles related to marine life and the ocean in the Los Angeles area. Inspiration courtesy of the public library in Manhattan Beach, one of SoCal's most beautiful coastal communities.
