Question for administrator

edit

{{adminhelp}} I am quite new to wikipedia, but I do have some sort of experience when contributing. My work is normally anti-vandalism, so I would like to ask What are the templates for warning IPs when they vandalize? I'm not sure if wikpedia has it, but I know RuneScape wiki does.

I might have more questions later on, but that is it for now.=) Alfred Lau (talk) 00:06, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

WP:WARN, and you might be interested in WP:TWINKLE and WP:HUGGLE. By the way, this doesn't need an admin - so please use helpme instead of adminhelp for stuff like this in future. Cheers!  Chzz  ►  00:17, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question about JFK High School and Tiyan

edit

Hi! Regarding http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_F._Kennedy_High_School_(Guam)&diff=295696109&oldid=287078007 - What is Tiyan? Is it another school? Is it another building?

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 00:22, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

P.S., if you are on Guam, would you mind taking photographs on the island and uploading them on Wikipedia? There are some photographs on Guam that need to be put on Wikipedia. WhisperToMe (talk) 00:23, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Here are some initial requests (Tamuning, Barrigada, Mangilao and Dededo):

If you would like more requests at one time (i.e. for Yigo, Hagatna, etc, and additional requests in the four above cities), please let me know WhisperToMe (talk) 11:30, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

To add a reference, enclose the information using <ref> and </ref> tags. Inside the tags you need to include the Author, the name of the article, the publication, the date, and the page numbers. If the article appears on the internet, please also include the URL and the access date. Wikipedia:Citing sources explains additional information on how to cite sources. WhisperToMe (talk) 11:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • An access date is a date when one accessed information on the internet. For instance if I look at http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/08/31/iran.detainee.death/index.html on September 1, 2009, then I put September 1, 2009 as the access date. When you go to college professors may ask you to put access dates of materials you find over the internet in your citations. WhisperToMe (talk) 11:50, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • If you accessed the article today (September 1, 2009), yes, the access date would be September 1, 2009 - The date of the article would be Month day, 2007. :) WhisperToMe (talk) 11:53, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • So far, that's a good start! :) - Lemme fix up the ref to include the publication name, author, and date published ("By Dionesis Tamondong • Pacific Daily News • August 8, 2009 ") - When I do that you will see an ideal format for refs. There is an all-out citation template that can be used too, but I haven't memorized it, so I don't use it. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:08, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Also, please do not give multiple refs the same ref name, or else the program will think it is all the same ref and only display one. Give multiple references different names. Only use the same ref name when you are citing the same document. As for the photo request, I have been trying to find a photo of the Continental Micronesia HQ for a long time, so I would really appreciate it if you uploaded a photograph of it. Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 12:13, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • 1. There is no picture of the Continental Micronesia headquarters on Wikimedia Commons, or on Wikipedia
  • 2. The Continental Micronesia headquarters are located in Tamuning, Guam - The facility is the former Guam Airport terminal building.
  • 3. If you were referring to the Continental Airlines HQ, I took that photo; it is the HQ of the main airline. What is needed is an image of the subsidiary offices in Guam.
  • Even though there are existing photos of the Co Mike HQ elsewhere on the internet, I need for you to take a photo of it because your photo would not be copyrighted, while the photos I see are copyrighted. Wikipedia cannot use copyrighted photos because it is possible to take a free photograph of the subject.
  • WhisperToMe (talk) 12:21, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Yes, please bring your camera to the headquarters and get a photograph of the main building with the words "Continental" or "Continental Micronesia" on them - After you do so, get an account at commons.wikimedia.org (or make your Wikipedia account global) and upload your photo to commons.wikimedia.org. I understand you have school (at JFK), so see if you can drive or otherwise travel to the Continental Micronesia HQ after school. BTW, please get a shot of JFK High too - That article needs an image of the main entrance, with the words "Kennedy High School" visible. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:13, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Err...My friend told me the main entrance and the name of the school is quite far apart. Any suggestions?"

Location of CO Mike headquarters

edit

The grounds of Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport are in Tamuning and Barrigada. The old terminal, the Continental Micronesia building, is on the Tamuning side. http://ftp2.census.gov/geo/maps/blk2000/st66_Guam/County/66010_Guam/CBC66010_009.pdf shows a map with the border between Barrigada and Tamuning; the airport is along Sunset Avenue and East and Central Boulevard. AFAIK the Continental Micronesia headquarters is in the "hook" in the shape of the Tamuning village limits. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:49, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject

edit

Have you considered joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Micronesia? It includes the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Micronesia/Guam_work_group - which is dedicated to making articles about Guam better. BTW, please let me know if/when you get a chance to get the Co Mike picture. It is my number one requested pic for Guam so far. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:55, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure how to read it. I'd have to look at the author's other charts... WhisperToMe (talk) 14:57, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
