Request reason:

Despite requesting an account and successfully having an account created for me as I was instructed to by this site's administrators, I am still unfairly blocked and unable to edit. I have been caught in a rangeblock and even though I have never done anything wrong, I am unable to contribute. I am a victim of collateral damage and this needs to be addressed immediately. I have only made a handful of edits (as an IP user) over a few years and am not responsible in any way shape or form for whatever triggered this block. Alhanalem (talk) 3:53 pm, Today (UTC+8)

Decline reason:

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.
  4. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page and click save.

If you are not blocked from editing the sandbox then the autoblock on your IP address has already expired and you can resume editing. Closedmouth (talk) 12:00, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to have autoblock on their IP address lifted has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Abusing multiple accounts: massive cross wiki projects sock farm

Side comment: It seems a little ridiculous to ban an entire ISP for a year just because one or a few people on it were misbehaving. Alhanalem (talk) 20:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, that's the only option available to us sometimes in those circumstances. Daniel Case (talk) 06:11, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I mean really- a YEAR? Don't most script kiddies and vandals and such move on to the next attackable site long before that? (Edit: Also, can't you ask an ISP to impose sanctions on the user(s) responsible if the malicious activity is against that services' terms of use? )Alhanalem (talk) 07:28, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to raise the issue with your ISP. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:50, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm taking it then, from the apparent ignorance of this request, that my only options are wait for this unjust block to expire, or access the site from another location? Let me point out that my IP has never changed over several years and I have never made an inappropriate contribution to this wiki. I see no reason why I can't be let through. I want more information as to the circumstances of this blocking, why it has to be so long, and why you can't unblock this one single IP. Alhanalem (talk) 16:33, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

* Range block. Wikipedia administrators can choose to block a range of IP addresses rather than just a single one. This is done if a vandal, sockpuppeteer or otherwise disruptive user has taken advantage of dynamic IP or other situation (such as some LANs) where it is possible to evade blocks by hopping from IP to IP or physically moving from one terminal to another. Yes, this inconveniences many users (the longterm rangeblocks imposed on some large ranges mean that, in certain geographic areas, some users cannot edit without using a registered account). But the Wikipedia community does not take these actions lightly, and while some rangeblocks may be reduced in scope if they were imposed on too many users, it is only done if other methods of protecting the project and its users have failed.

If you are affected by collateral damage from a long term range block, consider creating an account either from another computer or via an email request.

After reading through this, a couple of things:

My IP is static, not dynamic. I cannot be sure of this, but as far as I know, all of the IPs through Time Warner Cable of Maine are static. I have been affected by collateral damage from a long term range block. I created an account, and I still cannot edit. PLEASE do something about this. Alhanalem (talk) 17:43, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I would suggest that you confirm with your ISP that this IP address of yours is static, if so come back here and ask for a checkuser to evaluate your request.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:49, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

IP block exempt

edit

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption.-- Cirt (talk) 18:19, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your consideration. I assure you that only good can come out of this. :) Alhanalem (talk) 20:36, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason: Sorry, that looks like an error, I believe that someone though you were caught in an autoblock, which had expired, where in fact you are caught in a range block that won't expire - I've made a comment in the user rights change, and set you back to IP block exempt.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:28, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

... May I ask why this exemption was removed after only three days? I reached for making an actual contribution to an article and discovered I'm blocked again. I haven't been given a fair chance. (As you can see from this template, my IP has not changed) Alhanalem (talk) 17:51, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
