Perth Tram Company

Hi Ali this article has appeared at AfD, I've got no problem with its being kept/deleted as the article request was for the original tram services that ran 1890-1960. Whats you thoughts on the article. Gnangarra 08:54, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

User:AlMac|(talk) just too busy in real world

My work has been ups & downs of busy, more ups than downs. Then this summer, my employer was bought out by a competitor, whose leadership told the rank & file that there would be no changes for a while, until they figured out how to combine operations in an economical way.

For example, the conglomerate has about a dozen factories in 3 nations, that originally were4 different companies, including ours, in which perhaps half of them are making stuff for the same customers. If we can consolidate what is being made for a customer in less factories, then with volume, we can lower cost for sourcing the raw materials, have our work force become more expert on those customers needs, be more responsive, more competitive, except for pricing.

The main reason we got bought out is the customers were playing us off against each other ... they ask for quotes for some new part ... then say "This other vendor quoted X ... can't you give us a better price?" Well after the bigger company heard that a few thousand times from customers, where we were named, they decided to make a bid to buy us out.

The statement that not much will change for a while, that may be true for the rank & file, but the new leadership has a parade of what appear to be new ideas to many line managers & department heads, who need help from the computer guy to implement ASAP whatever. So I have been in crisis mode for several months now. When I get home from work each day, I am exhausted.

I do all the ERP software work for a company that has approx 250 employees, does a few $ million business a year, sometimes called a mid-sized company.

Recently my boss has had me spending a lot of time reverse engineering dirty data in the accounting area, interesting but I not have a lot of experience or training there. Also he, and the auditors live and breathe Excel for data analysis, not the Data Mining Tools of the ERP, plus the company has refused to purchase good interface tools for converting data between different computer realities, meaning the process is not user friendly, meaning I am stuck with a lot of conversion efforts on an almost daily basis, to get the data they want from the dynamic systems to their Excel windows on historical data sets.

Another manager I doing a lot of recent work for, is the guy in charge of inventory accuracy, which I think is probably more important to the company than accounting accuracy, but the top managers are more interested in the accounting data than the data from which that is derived.

When I have leisure time, Wikipedia is only one of several outside interests. I still desire to contribute, but I do not see the light at the end of the tunnel at present in my day to day work, and when i do see it, probably an on-coming train. User:AlMac|(talk) 15:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for generating some discussion on the objectives of the wikiproject WA. I hope you can bring your talents to the development or once it gets going. P.S. Your article freo town hall article is good so far. I like the little yarn attached. Made an edit there. Fred 15:22, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Nice work. I like the cquote things by the way. Yet another thing I learnt from you. The 'yarn' (referred to above) was the piece of history "The death of W.J. Snook" which I thought was charming. Fred 08:46, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Sunset Coast

Thanks for that - some have had the afd button fingers itching over that article - I never heard of that expression in common use - and Ive been around a bit... SatuSuro 09:26, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I had nothing to do withit -but it has gone to afd. No one has answered the reason- but they simply try to hijack the afd on the wing of notability. Sorry - I have a terrible tendency to send cryptic messages - or ones with ambiguity. SatuSuro 03:27, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Tricky -if you look at the comment in the afd - it started from a lift from a website - probable plagiarism - I watcched it for ages and couldtn make up my mind - to edit or to agree with the afd - but if my mate whos editing now does his bit - it will be so diff it will just get confusing... :P SatuSuro 03:31, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
My apologies - I am an older text/book oriented editor - I find most web based info quite spurious - if we ever meet again in issues around perth or wa articles - thats where I come from! (an old friend is a lecturer at UWA and If I ever started on about his problems with students accessing web based rather than text ifno I'd never get off...) SatuSuro 03:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Very generous offer - I have inherited a very large ephemera and book collection of materials relating to western australia - and have also been a very long term battye and state reccords office user - but you never know - it is appreciated that you should offer, I will keep it in mind! SatuSuro 04:08, 14 January 2007 (UTC) As for brackets - my imac keyboard speed leaves me with manny repeats in talk messages and I have given up worrying! :) SatuSuro 04:10, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello Ali K from Craigower:

I really got into a knot this morning. The response below was written with user "sopoforic" in mind, who responded to my cry for help, and as I was editing you also responded. I then had an "edit conflict" to deal with. I have not got a clue as to whether this is the best way. I simply deleted me edit to "sopoforic".

Thanks for such a speedy response. No there is only one Joyce Holms Scottish crime writer. The problem arose thus: I have a fairly long article on this writer but before I was prepared to submit it (since this is a first for me) I, foolishly, as it turns out, attempted to enter the name Joyce Holms, and only that, on the list of writers. This was blocked. I then found the page "Articles for Creation" (2007-01-08) and since I clearly need help I place the long article there. As far as I can see it is still there No.41 on that day. That page gave me the impression that all on it were waiting to be examined and helped (hopefully) on their way. This may be the case? I hope this clarifies my problem. Thanks again. From Craigower

Thanks again, I await with bated breath. (Craigower 10:10, 15 January 2007 (UTC))

Freo town hall

Your little gem of article still has tiny flaw. I probably could have explained the problem better.

  • The architects have a close connection to the Town Hall
  • A google search shows this to be true.
  • The opening occurred on June 22, 1887.
  • The architects were around in the 1990s.

I believe they were responsible for the architectural assessment included in the article space. They may have contributed to more recent (internal) alterations to the building. This is what I meant by unlikely. Hope to see more interesting pages. Fred 11:12, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

I did not want to change it, again, without resolving our discussion. I am still not sure if you see what I see.
  • Architects working ten years ago would not be the same persons who designed the building, over one hundred years earlier. (Pardon my bold emphasis.)
Am I missing something?
Kind regards, Fred 14:00, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Ref? I met one of them! This is not of course an adequate reference.
The company Considine and Griffiths dissolved at the beginning of this year. Geoff Considine can be reached at Considine Architects in Subiaco on 9381 1744; Phil Griffiths, a conservation expert, is at 9381 1666. The 'white pages' is also not a good reference. The Molyneux report on the heritage of perth will support this. I could go on, but the onus is on editors to produce a verifiable reference supporting the edit.
Let me know if you want some suggestions for similar articles. And, yes, I realise the article does not belong to you, you just did all the work. Yours Faithfully Fred 11:21, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

More suggestions.

Glad you saw the funny side. :)

Suggestions. The heritage of the same period, gold boom and federation, has public buildings that the present day suburbs are built around. Especially some of the suburbs in your major contribs. Guildford has preserved their distict and they have a very helpful information centre and heritage walks. Cinemas and theatres, like Regal, were very important in early twentieth century. One of the most interesting buildings is Perth Observatory, before this was built there was no accurate time in Perth.

But these are starting points, and can extend in all directions. Have a good look round our project (WP:WA) and dig through the lists or categories. The other editors there are very helpful. Keep a look out in the real world too. You have a 'good eye' for subjects. I will drop back with some pages to start soon.

Here is a quick and satisfying one for you. Change "Fremantle Town Hall" at List of historic buildings in Perth, Western Australia to a wiki-link. One of my favourite things is linking articles to each other. Regards Fred 15:06, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Fwd to Ali K:

Hi Fred,

If you wanted to talk to Phil Griffiths, I’m sure that he’d be
very happy to, and you could mention my name also. Phil’s a nice
bloke and would be able to give you heaps of info about the TH.

I'm sure he could help you bring the article up to G/A quality if you phoned or faxed him for interesting facts. ... is the part I forgot to add!

No, I am very sorry, Ali ...

... that was me half asleep. I know you know! I can see why you thought I was battering you with this. This was laziness and sloppiness on my part. I dragged this from the e.mail I got from expert. I was checking that I wasn't being stupid, yet again. Thought you may want to use phone number that isn't there anyway! I added the omitted comment underneath now.

Please accept my apologies. I hope I am not spoiling your enjoyment of wikipedia. Fred 11:58, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Penguins

Saw your Penguin island update - I do have some non-penguin photos of the island but cannot upload for a while... unfortunately SatuSuro 10:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Satusuro and I send each other numerous emails every week. This is about topics that arise on wikipedia but are not about articles on it. We share gossip about WA history, for example, things that would be inappropriate to put in a public. It also keeps conversations between only two editors from cluttering up the talk pages, which are for the whole community. Wikipedia is a strange space that takes a little getting used to, I still am. Just FYI Fred 12:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
You final caught me I've been to Penguin Is. at least a dozen times(probably heaps more) all between 1989 and 1994, I've never taken a camera there. Sorry no pictures from there, though I do have some Perth zoo shots of penguins that I could lie about :P Gnangarra 13:58, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

This user (Ali K) knowlingly provides false information

Ali K provides false information on Jane Turner's page. I tried to change the year of birth to 1961 which is correct ( according to IMDB) and Ali K changed it to 1967 which is incorrect. No real harm done however in future i suggest that Ali K finds reliable references when putting in information and makes sure to check her facts when removing other people's edits. I had to change the year of birth back to 1961 even after Ali K was provided with a lot of evidence she still refused to admit that she was wrong. Why was this Ali K? Thank You. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jane 01 (talkcontribs) 23:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC).

A website linked to on the Jane Turner article specifies 1967. Please do not, on my talk page, say I "knowingly provide false information". This talk page is a way to get in contact with me, not to prove to other people that I am knowingly using false info with information that you think is correct. I was simply just using what was on hand. I am waiting a reply from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Please sign your comments in future using --~~~~ --Ali K 00:57, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Your Aquinas College comments

Trinity college article offers only the most very basic of information.

  • It is as enjoyable to read as a bus time table.
  • It contains information that could only be useful to a new student, who has lost his handouts.
  • My proposed changes, sell the page to the school to use as their website.

Anyone interested in reading (not editing) the page would not read very far before leaving. Pack all the information into sentences, then edit it down further. Two or three sections at most. Look forward to your edit. Fredraysay

Inappropriate

You do realise that the TC article is not going to EVER get FA. and the Aquinas one is more than on its way to GA standard. Smbarnzy 10:52, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Uhhh. Okay then. That was kind of random, and, to be honest, a little delayed. --Ali K 11:41, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

You should!

I was cheered by your approach, so thank you. I have left numerous comments with 'the boys' but did not receive a reply or any indication they had read it. This was on the talk page and their own if they missed it. Have a look in the Archive on the talk page for their (unintentionally) hilarious comments. I've tried a different track lately. You should just go ahead. Unless you are awarding them their F/A they probably will not listen to your helpful suggestions. No harm in trying. Your award is in this edit's summary. Regards, Fred

Just saying I agree broadly with your comments. They're enthusiastic but if they're *ever* to get past B-class they're going to have to take a step back and see this the way a Wikipedian with no knowledge or care of Perth, the Public Schools Association or whatever will see it. The problem isn't so much one of content but of perspective. If this is at some point addressed the will and enthusiasm is there within that group of people to see it succeed. Unfortunately this could take a while. Orderinchaos78 15:40, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Hamersley

Hi :) Thanks for that - just working on Hamersley to get it to FA standard and hopefully nominate it around 1 Feb. I've spent a few weeks reading up and researching at the SRO and State Library to get the documentary side of it up to scratch, as no books have (yet) been written about it. So if you see anything that could be done better in the sections that have been worked on (haven't yet got to a few), and especially on the graphics front, let me know :) Orderinchaos78 08:24, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Re pics btw - did you mean this one? Orderinchaos78 05:40, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Haha that's cool :) Was more a clarity issue than anything else as I wasn't sure if I'd missed something I should have seen. If I were you, I'd blame the heat - this weekend's been bloody ridiculous. Orderinchaos78 06:18, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Sports Trainer

Ali K,

You have removed valuable and required information from article: Sports Trainer.

Could you please not remove valuable and required information from the Sports Trainer article, i am the creator, and an expert in this field and all information added is relevant and correct and 'notable', Do NOT remove information from that article again. Thank You, (Bradles 02 23:55, 17 February 2007 (UTC))

The article does not make sense and is written from the point of view of an Australian, whereas it should be written in neutral POV. --Ali K 23:59, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
I would suggest ignoring this person as firstly they were blocked for "hoaxing" and secondly they don't own the article, I dont think one can be an "expert" in a generic article anyway (wouldnt every sports trainer in the country have a similar claim?) Your edits look good to me :) DanielT5 23:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Ali K, Do you remember me? I'm that poor innocent wikipedian you refused to help when they were blocked, just a quick message to let you know i've been unblocked and am back on wikipedia. I hope you don't ever need help with anything wiki-related, because you can never rely on your fellow wikipedians, as you've proved that to me. (Bradleigh 05:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC))

Great to hear! You will now be able to make edits in the proper manner. Hope to see some good quality edits from you, --Ali K 07:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Well seen as you're not an administrator it's none of your business what edits i do or do not make. (Bradleigh 08:51, 16 March 2007 (UTC))

As an editor I am entitled to see your contributions whenever I like, but please, dont let me alter what you would have previously contributed to you. If you feel so strongly about me not being involved with you, you are perfectly able to take your comments elsewhere. Thanks, --Ali K 09:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I was just reading on another user page you say that you have recieved hate mail from me, that's not true i did not send you hate mail. Anyway, i was just wondering what year was Jane Turner born? See you later. (Bradleigh 09:59, 16 March 2007 (UTC))

I was just wondering would it be alright if i added you to my MSN? We could have a discussion about the incident and hopefully clear it up? (Bradleigh 10:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC))

To be honest, I dont see any need. Nothing needs to be cleared up, just move on. :) --Ali K 10:08, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that Ali, i have well and truley moved on but obviously you haven't so i just thought an MSN conversation would help you get past this. Anyway you have entertained me for the past few weeks so for that i thank you, but for now, Goodbye and have fun! (Bradleigh 10:12, 16 March 2007 (UTC))

Yet another satisfied customer, folks. --Ali K 11:35, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Indeed. Check your email. Orderinchaos78 13:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Done, Thanks. --Ali K 21:53, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for making me aware of that one. :) Orderinchaos78 09:08, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Allo then allo then whats this about my talk page - and then stating ♥ re fred and order ? SatuSuro 09:38, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Mmmm, I love you too! :P :P --Ali K 21:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Now now - no need for that - It's just ok to know that some west oz editors do actually keep check of others talk pages - you never know what you might find out (or not as in the sometimes impenetrable dialogues between self and fred for instance) SatuSuro 22:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
True. :) One big happy family!--Ali K 08:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
With maybe a few less siblings as of today... Orderinchaos78 06:04, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
You can't be serious? You simply cannot construct a sentence like that. It is unorthodox. What's up?--Ali K 06:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Was actually a cryptic reference. Look around and you'll get it ... :) Orderinchaos78 08:14, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Always one to open my mouth before looking. See you in week or so. --Ali K 06:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ali K, I assume you're the same Ali K who contributes to Commons. I want a photo of the head of a tulip as a logo for WikiProject Calvinism (It's a visual reference to the Five points of Calvinism). I'm not really up to speed with image licensing and I was wondering if my reading of the licence you released Image:Tulip single.jpg under is right. Can I download your photo, crop, rotate and upload the finished product to Commons, as long as I release it under the same license and mention that you took the original photo? Blarneytherinosaur talk 01:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply on my talk page. I will link to the original and state that you took it. Thanks very much. Blarneytherinosaur talk 11:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Anytime :) --Ali K 11:29, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

This user (Ali K) is stalking other innocent wikipedians (among other things)!

With regards to your recent comments on user talk page: Jimbo Wales. Did anybody ask for your opinion Ali K? Obviously you have no common sense and are just asking for trouble. I do not appreciate your input into situations that are absolutely none of your business. You really don't have a life do you? Has all of your family dis-owned you and you have lots of spare time now? Too much spare time if you ask me! Oh Ali, grow up and get over yourself! I'm over you and the whole situation and i thought you said that you were over it aswell, obviously not, you're starting to scare me, might have to think about reporting you to wikipedia's directors and have you banned for stalking or maybe just plain rudeness! BTW, I have the power to very quickly cause a lot of negative publicity for wikipedia if i want to, and you are pushing me to take that extreme! Leave me alone, get a life and stop interfering in situations that have absolutely nothing to do with you! From Bradleigh. (Please Note: I am only using this IP address to defend myself against unwanted comments by this user, i am not using this IP address as a means of sockpuppetry) (210.49.216.231 11:21, 9 April 2007 (UTC))

If you're so over it why are you typing volumes here about it? Orderinchaos 11:42, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Word OIC. About the funniest stuff i've read from a ranting user in quite some time. Why do good users like Ali K and ors. have to put up with this kind of abuse from people, it doesn't make sense. -- Thewinchester (talk) 16:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Easter

Yeah I had a good but quiet one - very busy, with assignments and the like. Hope you enjoy yourself over there :) Loved Singapore when I was there in '04. Orderinchaos 11:42, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Awesome. I was there in 02, 03, 04, 05. Kuala Lumpur in 06, but Singapore again in 07. :P Its always good to get away!--Ali K 11:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, it's funny seeing it up there in lights! Orderinchaos 07:52, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
