editWelcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to OLE for process control. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is strongly discouraged. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 09:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Decision support system . Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by some search engines, including Google. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Kuru talk 01:41, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Blocked as a sock puppet
editYou may contest this block by adding the text
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below, but please read our guide to appealing blocks first.{{unblock|Hello there, I have not been on Wikipedia for quite some time and just saw that my account was blocked. The block claims that I have multiple accounts, but the fact is simply that I only have one account. However, at my former job, it is possible that someone else at my office had a Wikipedia account and had similar interests. But, I have not been with that company for the last year. Also, I realize that I may have posted links before that were considered commercial, that was not my intention, but I understand now and that will not happen again. On top of that, I am no longer in my former position and although yes, I used Wikipedia before mostly for professional reasons, I now just want to use it for personal pleasure. I hope that you can unblock my account because although I'm sure that MuZemike had good reason to believe that I was a 'sock puppeteer', I was not and certainly will not in the future. Thank you very much, Alison}}
The term we use for such cases is "Meatpuppetry", where you were one of several editors with the same purpose - in this case, it appears to have been posting external links almost exclusively. When we have a group of users editing in the same (disruptive) manner, they may be treated as one user and multiple sockpuppets, which in turn means that they share sanctions such as blocks and bans. Thus, your block. I appreciate that you don't intend to post External Links again, but do you have any plans on what you would like to edit? UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 14:50, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
You say that you "used Wikipedia before mostly for professional reasons". Looking at your editing history it is clear that you mean you used it for commercial promotion and nothing else. Are you willing to undertake not to do so again? (Note that I am asking for a much more specific undertaking than the general statement of intention given above.) Hello Ultraexactzz and JamesBWatson- thank you for your responses and your questions. Frankly, I initially did not really understand what was appropriate for Wikipedia and did not realize that what I had been doing was unacceptable. I get it now. For the immediate, I was interested in adding a microfinance organisation that I helped out- nothing commercial, just for information purposes about the microfinance industry. Also, I am starting a Masters program in International Development in January so can safely say that I will not use Wikipedia for commercial promotion again- only to share what I learn and to help improve articles on topics related to my studies. Whether I am unblocked or not, I do apologize if my contributions before were inappropriate- I understand and that would not be an issue again in the future.
