Speedy deletion nomination of User:Nolelover

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Nolelover requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Yasht101 :) 10:08, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Itried to find the tag. Guess this message has to do with the date. :) Vyeh (talk) 10:59, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Invitation to the April Wikification Drive

Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify April

Hey. I have seen you active in this project and I also wanted to. So can you please tell me that how to take part in the April drive? Redards Yasht101 :) 15:42, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Certainly. Sign up is here (there's a green "How to join" box that will tell you what you copy into the "Y" section) and you can find lots of articles to wikify here: {{wikification progress}} (there are other ways I can show you). Now, as to actually how to wikify...well, there are some extended directions here but I think the best thing to do is actually show you. I'll wikify an article tomorrow and take you through exactly what I did, then ask you to wikify one and I'll give you tips. Got to go to bed right now, but I think that will be the best way to show you. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:30, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
I thought it was really awesome you congratulated me on my Rollback Rights! Thanks :D WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 19:05, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

And thank you for the barnstar! By the way, take what I said on your talk page--that it isn't as important as it seems--with a grain of salt...the raw tool really doesn't add much over Twinkle (unless you use Huggle, which I haven't) but it is still an important step in your career. Cheers :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:29, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Ha, I noticed that the tool has no weight over Twinkle, except for the fact that you can use Huggle and you get the "special rights". Anyone can have Twinkle, but I guess the rights show that you are somewhat respected by the Wikipedia community. It is also a good start in a Wikipedia career ;) WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 23:57, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Indeed it does (and is). Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:01, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Articles are not mentioned.

  • Hi Nole, few days ago I created two articles, Jamal Ehsani and Kulliyaat-e-Jamal.But it's surprised to me that on my contribution page, at section article created, these two articles are not mentioned?.What to do and where to ask about that error?.Justice007 (talk) 19:59, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
    • Well, I can't be positive, but I'm pretty sure that what you are seeing here is because of something called "repetition lag" that I can't really explain. All I know is that there are a lot of things on Wikipedia that are messing up, and most seem to have to do with counting totals and so forth. For example, when you go to your edit count, it has a red banner that mentions the lag and my edit count hasn't updated since the time that it mentions (yours probably hasn't either). When that repetition lag is fixed, your article will show I'm pretty sure. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:40, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

SMAC

I'd love to contribute to the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri page. (Great game!) But, probably shouldn't do so while it's under review. As an aside, a few years back I was advised to provide an evaluation for the possible adaption of SMAC to an online persistent browser game format. Although my evaluation of the potential success for such a venture was largely favorable, there doesn't seem to be any follow-up on the idea. ~Eric F 184.76.225.106 (talk) 21:40, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

And we'd be happy to have your help :) It isn't "on review" right now btw; Vyeh and I are just tossing around the idea of going for featured status, after getting good article status a few months (year?) ago (Vyeh has been inactive for that time). In the meantime, feel free to be bold and change or bring up any possible changes you think are good. Any sources you come across would be useful as well.
Oh, that would have been lovely...I grew up on SMAC, Civ II and eventually switched to RuneScape mainly because I discovered the internet (I can play on any computer!?!) and then got tired of playing by myself. A browser game would have been quite interesting...Pity :( Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:58, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
First of all, should the more generalized discussion of possible changes to SMAC be done here or over on the page's discussion, or ...maybe here? For example:
  • The merger or integration of SMAX into SMAC's seems like a mash-up. Shouldn't the plot lines be separated; with the Caretaker/Usurper stuff in its own SMAX section? A reader not familiar with the games would come away with a misunderstanding of the distinction.
  • Also, IMHO the 'Characters' section should be renamed 'Factions', and reorganized accordingly, with each having its own subheading. And relating to factions, while SMAX added factions, some factions from SMAC were removed -- at least in the demo (I never had the full SMAX).
  • I imagine the use of character icons from the game has been discussed and rejected; same with faction logos (?) 'Fair use' might be a hard sell. (Btw, the 'Mind-Staple' guy makes a great avatar).
Before I get my feet wet[too late], I could use a little direction. ~Eric F 184.76.225.106 (talk) 04:12, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
  Doing... Did some stuff here. ~Eric F 184.76.225.106 (talk) 08:09, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, the SMAC talk page is the best place for any discussion, so I'm gonna copy this into a section on the talk page. I warn you that we've actually talked about many of the points you brought up already, so don't feel bad if some are shot down ;) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:37, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
The article got GA status one year ago. Vyeh (talk) 12:59, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Two

Hi! Welcome to the second edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Teahouse celebrates one month of being open! This first month has drawn a lot of community interest to the Teahouse. Hosts & community members have been working with the project team to improve the project in many ways including creating scripts to make inviting easier, exploring mediation processes for troubling guests, and best practices regarding mentoring for new editors who visit the Teahouse.

Springtime means fresh tea leaves...
  • First month metrics report an average of 30 new editors visiting the Teahouse each week. Approximately 30 new editors participate in the Teahouse each week, by way of asking questions and making guest profiles. An average of six new questions and four new profiles are made each day. We'd love to hear your ideas about how we can spread the word about the Teahouse to more new editors.
  • Teahouse has many regulars. Like any great teahouse, our Teahouse has a 61% return rate of guests, who come back to ask additional questions and to also help answer others' questions. Return guests cite the speedy response rate of hosts and the friendly, easy to understand responses by the hosts and other participants as the main reasons for coming back for another cup o' tea!
  • Early metrics on retention. It's still too early to draw conclusions about the Teahouse's impact on new editor retention, but, early data shows that 38% of new editors who participate at the Teahouse are still actively editing Wikipedia 2-4 weeks later, this is compared with 7% from a control group of uninvited new editors who showed similar first day editing activity. Additional metrics can be found on the Teahouse metrics page.
  • Nine new hosts welcomed to the Teahouse. Nine new hosts have been welcomed to the Teahouse during month one: Chicocvenancio, Cullen328, Hallows AG, Jeffwang, Mono, Tony1, Worm That Turned, Writ Keeper, and Nathan2055. Welcome to the Teahouse gang, folks!
  • Say hello to the new guests at the Teahouse. Take the time to welcome and get to know the latest guests at the Teahouse. Drop off some wikilove to these editors today, as being welcomed by experienced editors is a really nice way to make new editors feel welcome.

You are receiving The Tea Leaf after expressing interest or participating in the Teahouse! To remove yourself from receiving future newsletters, please remove your username here. -- Sarah (talk) 21:45, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

SMAC

[removed userbox (self): problem with image -- ~Eric F 184.76.225.106 (talk) 00:26, 23 April 2012 (UTC)]
Just thought I'd let you know that I'm temporarily unable to put much time into the SMAC article. I volunteered to help get some Titanic related stuff in ship-shape for the April 15 (100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster) 'featured status' of the main page, and launch of related pages. -- I'll get back to SMAC after that.

I was sent to me that Jordan media Institute Article will be deleted soon, would you please tell me why? they asked me to put a reference and i did, can you help me please, thanks alot for your time and consideration Sahar.Ahmed (talk) 05:15, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Are you talking about Jordan Media Institute? If so, then I'm happy to tell you that the article is not up for deletion right now :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 16:29, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

I have just added the official website of Jordan media Institute as areference to this article in order not to be deleted. what other mistakes do i have in this article? please tell me thanks in advance Sahar.Ahmed (talk) 07:51, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

As I said, the article is not going to be deleted. It has not been nominated for deletion. It has only been been tagged with a template that says that even though it has references, they haven't been put into the text (like you just did with one today). You can do that to the rest, and then remove the template. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:30, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

There are more than 80K unassessed articles about US. I had a idea to start a contest regarding Assessment.

I thought that United States has a good number of articles now and needs clean up.

This will be beneficial for articles as well as editors as they will be able to interact with editors in their country and will learn new things and can obtain a lot of knowledge about their country.

Please add your name here if you want to take part in this contest: [1] and [2]

Details: [3]

Instructions: [4]

Awards to be given: [5]

Work that is to be done can be viewed here: [6]

If you are interested then please let me know. And if you want to take part in its coordination then please tell as I'll need help in coordinating it, because currently I m the only coordinator.

Regards! Yasht101 08:10, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

I think it's great that you are doing this and that you are coordinator (it can be a lot of work!), but I'm simply swamped at the moment (both here on-site and in RL). I'll have to pass for now, sorry. :( Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:33, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Its k... But do you know any editor who can take some work though no one has taken interest yet in this contest despite of leaving a message on WP United states' talk page. I have gone to bot request to convey a message. So have to wait or have to convert that project as a failed thing.
There are similar contest which have been a great success. For e.g.,
  1. Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Assessment/Tag & Assess 2012 - In this I have made 3280 assessments in total 30K by all editors
  2. Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistan/Assessment/Tag & Assess 2012 - I m coordinator even in this and have made 200 assessments for this which in total equal to 800 (This has started 2 days ago so the counter is low)
If you know any editor who can do help me in this, then kindly suggst. Thanks! Yasht101 13:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, first of all don't marked it as failed just yet. :) You have a good idea, and it has worked in other places so don't let one bump slow you down. Now, I don't really know any editors active in either of those two areas (assessment and WP:US) but here's what I would do. Go ahead and let this drive finish...just think of it as a learning experience. However, post on the WP:US talk page long before the next drive starts and try to get some help/advice from them. Tell them about the Indian and Pakistan ones, and explain the problem that they have. Hopefully you'll get some help from them. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 16:33, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Paturi Sitaramanjaneyulu

Dear Reviewer , Thanks for providing your feedback. Sri Paturi Sitaramajaneyulu is an Oriental Scholar in Sanskrit and Telugu , Linguist and a researcher . Knew many other languages. He has more than 85 published works in telugu. Some of which are referred in some web sites. I will try to refer those. But most of his works are not on line. Not sure who I can prove or provide a source. I would give the publishing house number and address which published most of his works.

The biographic information is what I gathered from one of his books. Which is again a hard copy. I have made a reference to that. Other than that I am not sure how else to provide you the information. I am sure once this page is published , many of the who had association with him will come forward to contribute to the page. I just want to give it a head start. Sri pusuluri (talk) 20:11, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, the main thing is that we require independent sources. While it's fine if the sources are offline, you need more then just proof that the books exist. Do you have reviews in reliable sources? Those are really what you need. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:42, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia Stories Project

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I asked Sarah Stierch who might be good to talk to, and she gave me your name.

Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project.

Thank you for your time,

Hi

Hey Nolelover, I see you are starting to edit again as school winds down. I finally reappeared too, so I thought I'd drop by and say hi. Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:17, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello yourself! Good to see you around...I missed you after you retired, but hoped that you'd be back - Wikipedia is hard to leave once you've invested any real time in it. I still have a couple finals left next week, but yes, I'm looking forward to a decreased workload. Any current projects on-wiki? Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:12, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm sort of roaming around, I'm also working on User:Ryan Vesey/Xerotine siccative. Where do you go to school? You can email me if you don't want to discuss it on wiki. Ryan Vesey Review me! 00:19, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Done - and I must ask, how did you learn about Xerotine siccative? Fascinating, if brief. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:28, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
It actually all started with one of the first articles I ever wikified Thomas Bridges (Anglican missionary). I later decided to make that my pet project and it is still ongoing to an extent. While editing it, I learned that he presided over a funeral for 144 soldiers of HMS Doterel. I decided to write an article for the ship. In the process of writing the article I discovered the cause of the explosion was xerotine siccative. I started an article and did nothing and now I've finally begun actual work on it. On that note, my article on Doterel is probably my favorite achievement on WP except possibly HMS Phoenix (N96). I honestly believe that those two articles have more information on those ships than anything else on the internet. Ryan Vesey Review me! 00:40, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Wow...have you talked to this guy? I don't know exactly what he wants, but that's a great story about WP. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:48, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
I have not, I was a little jealous when I saw that to tell the truth. Ryan Vesey Review me! 00:49, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Go. Shoo. Introduce yourself. I'm still a minor, so I doubt I can do anything, but he messaged quite a few people so I very seriously doubt he'll turn you down. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:52, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
I'd feel weird soliciting it, but if he happens to read this conversation I'd certainly participate. Ryan Vesey Review me! 00:57, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
He got my name from User:SarahStierch who I've worked with at the WP:Teahouse, and I saw that he also asked User:Benzband (who has been a big help lately at WWF). So like I said, I don't think he is looking for any particular type. It sounds like an interesting project, and certainly something worthwhile. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 01:07, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Dogeared

Hi Nolelover. Thanks again for your help with getting my article accepted. I noticed this message today on my article "The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies and organizations. Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary sources about the topic. If notability cannot be established, the article is likely to be merged, redirected, or deleted. (April 2012)" Is there something I can do to remove this? Thanks again! Mtheisner (talk) 17:49, 20 April 2012 (UTC)mtheisner

Well, first of all the template {{notability}} is very common so don't worry too much about it. Your article is nowhere near deletion, or anything like that. Now, the only way to establish notability even further is to continue to add good reliable sources about the company. In fact, I would venture to say that if you can find one more rock solid source (like the LA Times article), the notability of Dogeared would be set beyond a shadow of a doubt. GOCE May copy edit drive

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their May 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on May 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on May 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goal for the drive will be to eliminate January, February, and March 2011 from the queue. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa, and Stfg.

Hey, I have a bit of a conflict of interest, so I was wondering if you could tell me if you think the page is ready for the article space. Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:00, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

It's on the line, but nothing wrong with giving it the benefit of the doubt. BTW, if you do plan on getting involved at AfC I would very strongly suggest installing this incredibly useful tool. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:38, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

My Editor Review

I have been here for a while and want to improve myself. Though I try my best to do the right thing, I may do something wrong. As you have seen me work, can you please leave me a review as I want to know where I stand so far and what should I improve to be a good editor. Your opinion has always been valuable and your review can help. Thanks :) Yasht101 08:18, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

You've got a lot of good reviews, and frankly I don't have a lot of time, so I won't be redundant. Worm made some great points, so I encourage you to listen to what he said. You've made a great start, but don't be afraid to slow down at times, and listen instead of talk (if that makes sense). Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:38, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Teahouse and WWF

Hi Nolelover! I've left a reply at the host lounge.
Also, in respect to your remarks at the Teahouse i just wanted to say i'd be really happy to help out organizing (big word for setting up/keeping an eye/closing/rewarding :) a June Wikification Drive if one is in store. Best,   benzband (talk) 17:23, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Entirely up to you :) Someone needs to take over, and if you could that would be absolutely great. You might be able to get help from W. Will, pjoef, Ryan Vesey or the like. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:38, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay i'll see what i can do :D Good luck with whatever is keeping you ^^ benzband (talk) 15:16, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

The Tea Leaf - Issue Three

Hi! Welcome to the third edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Teahouse reaches two month mark. The Teahouse has been live on English Wikipedia for two months now and evidence of the project's impact is beginning to show. Thank you to the hosts and Wikipedians who have helped make the Teahouse the valuable place for new editor's to seek help and feel welcome.
  • April metrics report has been posted on meta! Some relevant metrics from April’s report include:
  • In April, Teahouse averaged 45 questions per week.
  • An average of 20 new editors visiting for the first time were served at the Teahouse, in addition to repeat guests.

Wikipedia Teahouse always keeps it classy!
  • Many guests are repeat visitors: the average guest asks 1.5 questions and 22% of guests ask more than one question.
  • Reports show that the Teahouse is having a positive impact on editor engagement! Comparing a sample of 75 new editors who participate in the Teahouse with a control group (of equivalent size and similar first-day editing activity) shows:
  • New editors who participate in the Teahouse edit 10x the number of articles than the uninvited control group.
  • New editor participants also make an average six times more global edits.
  • Average Teahouse participants add 26 times more bytes of content that survive on Wikipedia (meaning content that isn't reverted or deleted) than the uninvited control group.
  • More Teahouse participants remain active on Wikipedia at least 10 days later. Among the 224 editors in our three experimental groups, 28 percent of new editors who participate in the Teahouse were still active on Wikipedia at least ten days later, compared with 12 percent who received an invitation but didn't actively participate in the Teahouse, and only 5 percent from a similar uninvited control group.
  • Teahouse visibility is a challenge, as we try to make the Teahouse visible to new editors, invitation has been the the main way of informing new editors about the Teahouse, and while that is a powerful tool, many new editors go uninvited. Input on Teahouse link placement is welcome! (Join in on the conversation here.)
  • Want to know how you can lend a hand at the Teahouse? Become a host! Learn more about what makes the Teahouse different than other help spaces on Wikipedia and see how you can help new editors by visiting here.
  • Say hello to the new guests at the Teahouse. Take the time to welcome and get to know the latest guests at the Teahouse. Drop off some wikilove to these editors today, as being welcomed by experienced editors is a really nice way to make new editors feel welcome.

{{Wikify}}

An edit request I put in for the page was declined on the basis of lack of support. I don't know if it more support is necessary, or if it is because User:Sandstein didn't look at the talk page. At any rate, can you head over to Template talk:Wikify#Support for an edit request? Ryan Vesey Review me! 12:52, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

I can try, although I don't have the time to look through all the various edit requests etc. Ugh...we really need to figure out {{wikify}} and AWB... Nolelover Talk·Contribs 12:54, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm going to start pestering people from AWB to push through my edit request for AWB to use the reason parameter. (It seriously shouldn't take more than half a second and it's entirely uncontroversial) Then I'm goingto start working on a parameter to keep the template on the page, but nonexistent for Wikified articles that don't meet AWB's criteria. On a side note, I'm considering asking User:Benzband if he is interesting in filling the position you vacated. I don't necessarily deserve mine either as I did nothing for the project all school year. Ryan Vesey Review me! 13:06, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Hehe...I showed you this convo, right? He gave me a couple names at the end that might help you (and the more I think about it, the more I realize that the second of these requests should be fairly obvious, right?). Anyway, best of luck pushing this stuff through, and I'll try to pop on as much as I can to support it. Once July comes, I'll be much more free. Ben would be good (of course there really aren't many options) and you're making up for all that work right now. This is a lot of progress, if we can get these changes through. :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:12, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Doon School copy edit

Hi Nolelover. I've finished the copy edit of The Doon School that you requested on the GOCE page. As you may have seen on its talk page, I had a really appalling proportion of failed verifications, and I really wondered sometimes if people had just picked up a word in the title of an article or something, and built a fantasy on it. I don't think it should go to GAN without a thorough citation check, I'm afraid. Should I tag it for that? Best rgds, --Stfg (talk) 21:33, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Well, I am trying to go through all the edits and discussion tonight, so I'll respond on the article's talk page when I can. Yup, go ahead and tag it for that. I knew there was a problem, but I certainly didn't realize it was that bad or I wouldn't have even thought about giving the go-ahead for a nom when Merlay suggested it (not that I was very enthusiastic). I'm sorry if your effort feels a bit wasted--we certainly could have done more to prep for a good ce--and that I haven't been able to respond during the last couple of days, but thank you so much for the work you've put in :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 21:47, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind message. I don't feel it was wasted. I haven't done a school article before and it was interesting. I hope the notes on the talk page will be helpful. Best, --Stfg (talk) 21:56, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Uh, just realised I forgot to c/e the lead, as I was waiting for the discuss. D'oh! Will do it tomorrow, as it's late here now. --Stfg (talk) 22:33, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Quite honestly, I would suggest holding off on that. The lead was rewritten a few weeks ago and we still need to integrate the two versions together. Furthermore, there are enough fundamental problems (UNDUE, etc.) that the lead you ce tomorrow will probably only be 50% of the lead that's there in a month or two. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 22:43, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that makes a ton of sense. Thanks. --Stfg (talk) 23:11, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Images are uploaded

  • Hi Nole, how are you, surely you are busy with study. Now I am back from my journey and trying to normalise the editing work on wikipedia.

I have uploaded some images for the article Ehsan Sehgal, these. Please consider to add one or two images in the article to relevant content. I can also add those per COI,but want to avoid it, as you are the main editor of that article, may you prefer to do that. Thanks. Justice007 (talk) 14:45, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Yup, I'm very busy :( I've added one image, and unfortunately a couple of the other aren't great for Wikipedia because they have words on them. It's easy to remove those if you know how, but I don't. By the way, don't worry too much about COI. If someone has a problem with you adding the image then you can always discuss the issue afterwards. Your article is not going to be very public, if that makes sense, so you can take the lead in editing as long as you remain NPOV. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 12:43, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Please fill out our brief Teahouse survey

Doon

Hi, you removed the Rushdie point from Doon in Literature citing 'bad ref'. I'm not sure if |title=East, west: stories this ref is really that bad in proving that the protagonists in Rushdie's story were Doscos. --Merlaysamuel :  Speechify  12:51, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Well, this was the in-text ref and it obviously is an example of what Stfg was talking about: there's no evidence ("Your search - doon - did not match any documents.") that the ref backs up the sentence. Now, this is a little better, but not much use since I'd still be synthesizing from one line ("These old Doon School nicknames...").
Scratch that, I see they're the same link. Hmm...that's odd...Well, anyway, if that's the only line about Doon then it wouldn't hold up to GA standards. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 12:58, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

I see...--Merlaysamuel :  Speechify  13:02, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

By the way Merlay (I bring this up because Stfg just mentioned this at the Doon talk page), have I (or anyone else) ever told you about indentation? As a general rule, when you reply to someone you add a colon ":" to the beginning of your reply so it indents under them. If the comment you want to reply to already has colons, you add one more than what is there (so if it has three, you add four. It helps keep conversations un-confusing. :)
This comment (#1) has three colons.
So this reply (#2) has four.
This person also wanted to reply to comment #1, so they use four colons too. (#3)
This person want to reply to #3, so they use five colons.
Does that make sense? Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:07, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Nole! Nobody told me about the rule as such but it was easy to deduce =) I sometimes am just too lazy to hold shift and press the colon button :) --Merlaysamuel :  Speechify  14:07, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Angela Lopez

I couldn't decide if it should be unambiguous advertisement or hoax or vandalism, however my original G-11 tag was removed by an IP (presumably the author), so maybe keep an eye out for that. And be careful, she speaks 8 languages, and is most fluent in the language of LOVE!--kelapstick(bainuu) 06:18, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Hmm...I missed your first tag (the page was still showing as unpatrolled for some reason, so I assumed I was the first to touch it) but I can't disagree with it. By my count, there are at least three or four different CSD criteria it could fall under...maybe her ninth language could be Wikipedia's rulebook? Of course, with fluency in the language of LOVE (I thought that would be French, but apparently not...) we should probably be recruiting Mrs. Lopez for a permanent spot at ANI... Nolelover Talk·Contribs 06:26, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
  1
There should be de facto notability for anyone fluent in the language of LOVE, although I think the threshold is still a minimum of one million men willing to swim through oceans of thumbtacks, and she only has thousands.
There is a glitch in the Special:NewPagesFeed (if that is what you are using) it is how I got to it, I am an autoreviewer and I found Lego tire marked as unpatrolled, and I wrote it, and it was in DYK a few days ago. Something isn't clicking with the patrolled feature, I reported it. --kelapstick(bainuu) 06:35, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
HA! --kelapstick(bainuu) 06:36, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Very true, however I feel we are not taking enough GF into account. After all, the author clearly said that he was not related to Lopez, and therefore we can lend more weight to his claims.
Nah, I still use Special:NewPages. It's worked so far, I'm used to it, and it's way too dang early in the morning to try to teach myself a new tool now.
My gawd... You sir, are a gentlemen and a scholar. That's the most fascinating 250 words I've ever read.
Heh...you telling me you've never thought to yourself "Well, if it's gonna be deleted I may as well make it look nice for its meeting with the great Jimbo in the sky." Hey, articles are people too--we just have to take care of them (even when terminally ill). Nolelover Talk·Contribs 06:51, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Indeed, perhaps if we could harness the brightness of her smile we would be able to solve this pesky energy crisis that we are in as well. I am a sucker for wikifying articles before nomination myself, usually it helps me understand if there is importance or just wild claims. Lego tire was quite interesting, got 21,000 hits on the day it was on the main page. --kelapstick(bainuu) 06:57, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Hehe...but (and oddly enough I had a discussion about this with another student earlier today) once you start harvesting smiles what keeps the rest of the body off limits? Someone has the bright idea of harvesting human fat as the next great energy source, and talk about an incentive to stay in shape! BMI over 28, and you get a permanent liposuction. 21,000? Very nice, and congratulations! Nolelover Talk·Contribs 07:13, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Indeed, scary thought, just read the book, and you to can be fluent! --kelapstick(bainuu) 07:23, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I hope this is one you get to read before it is deleted. --kelapstick(bainuu) 12:11, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

An hour late. :-( It must have been excellent though, with a number in the title. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 14:31, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Quite. The hallmark of a true encyclopedia article is the substitution of a letter with a number. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:41, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Doon & dusted

Hi Nolelover. I'm going to drop Doon off my watchlist now. I see that the discussion this morning is going well in the direction of getting the citations right and dealing with excessive claims, but Merlaysamuel hasn't undone the edit he made without consensus and against the scholarship, nor has he explained his introduction of false citations, and I haven't the taste for any more of all this. I have 100% confidence in your judgement, so at any time you want to mark points I've raised as resolved, or to remove any tags I added, please do go right ahead. Kind regards, --Stfg (talk) 09:35, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

I appreciate the vote of confidence...there have been times when I've considered just dropping it as well. Still, for all its problems we're nearly there. Again, thank you for your edits and comments at the page. If you don't mind, I'll pick up your rain check on a lead copyedit later on. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 17:48, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Sure. Thanks. --Stfg (talk) 18:15, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Your welcome and Thank You!

You are welcome for the Huggle revert click. I am just a lowly anti-vandalism hack with a short attention span that can barely distinguish between too, to, and two. You deserve a much bigger thank you for doing all the real work: editing and reviewing! Thank you so much for all of your hard work. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 00:04, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Each has his place :) I can't really take the tedium (as I see it) of long stretches of RPP, but it's just as necessary :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:13, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
