Um, what happened with IJBall? I have been really busy in real life this past month and I just realized that IJBall self-requested a block indefinitely. — YoungForever(talk) 20:28, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @YoungForever: I recall another editor filed an edit-warring report on IJBall, concerning one or more of the portals in Wikipedia, in early July. The admin handling the report determined that IJBall was involved with edit warring and blocked him for 31 hours. IJBall then requested to be indefinitely blocked on his talk page and the admin granted his request (yeah, this has stumped me, too). That editor filing the EW report appears to not have been without fault themselves, from what I was following. IJBall was singling them out for edit warring in the portals as well, but I don't know too much of the detail between the two. There is no doubt a fair portion of the community considers IJBall valuable, but he had his reasons for the self-requested indef and while we may not understand what happened, we need to respect his being away from Wikipedia for the time being, however long that is. - @MPFitz1968: Thank you for filling me in. I truly hope IJBall comes back, he is a valuable editor across multiple projects on Wikipedia. — YoungForever(talk) 22:01, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- @YoungForever: For reference: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RRArchive470#User:IJBall reported by User:Carter00000 (Result: Blocked 31 hours indefinitely). My personal opinion is that it was hypocritical of the other user to file a report against IJBall when they were guilty of the same thing, though I personally never saw any edit warring on IJBall's part since the other user was ignoring things like BRD, ONUS, and STATUSQUO. If IJBall was truly edit warring, then a neutral third party should have filed the report, not someone who was involved. I also personally disagreed with the block, as IJBall was not given any chance to respond. Amaury • 08:50, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- IJBall should have been given a chance to defend himself. He got blocked less than an hour of the other user filing the report. — YoungForever(talk) 20:27, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
