Welcome to Wikipedia and Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Wikipedia from Wikiproject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically requires recent secondary sources to support information; its application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
  • Wikipedia is a kingdom full of a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss it on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.

Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any problems. I wish you all the best on your wiki voyages! Wiki CRUK John (talk) 11:03, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:AmyEBHC

edit

Hello AmyEBHC,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged User:AmyEBHC for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Musamies (talk) 11:51, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've declined the speedy deletion as I see it as a disclaimer rather than an advert. I would advise using caution if editing about those companies - see WP:COI. It might be an idea to just give the names rather than the links (ThinkWell can be a wikilink to the article Thinkwell Group here). As you will see, we have very active patrollers monitoring new things. (We even have bots on patrol work too...) The Wikipedia encyclopaedia is the surface that everyone sees. Behind that is a rather large (dis)organisation of checking, researching, discussing, arguing (even e-fighting on occasions), policy making, and probably other bits I haven't seen yet. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Most admins and regular editors are willing to help (or to find someone else who will help...). Good luck. Peridon (talk) 12:13, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cochrane Deletion Response

edit

I left a detailed response on your talk page, however it seems unreasonable to me that all edits made separately and excluding any copyright violations(over 9 hours of work) were deleted. Overkill and inappropriate not to mention unfair in my estimation and most discouraging for a new editor. For edits that are a violation of policy and contained in the same edit stream, I accept that they would be deleted for the sake of time and I apologize for the mistake. I was unaware of this policy applying to organizations own pages and will of course not violate this policy again. How can I access this version with the associated HTML so I can edit and replace any offending materials with original content? Thank you AmyEBHC (talk) 20:51, 28 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove Templates.

edit

Only Administrators have the right to do this. Regards Huddsblue (talk) 23:39, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not true. The template itself says that AMY(!!!) can remove it. See the article's talk page. -- BullRangifer (talk) 02:10, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

If I upset you I'm sorry.

I was only trying to raise a concern not to start WW3. ;-) It certainly was not my intention to make "serious allegations" about you. Huddsblue (talk) 03:27, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I think the above has some very useful links, particularly in the policies and guidelines section. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you like. Welcome to the encyclopedia. A retraction of my statement.

edit

I did not have enough reason to believe you were working for Evidence Aid and I rescind my statement. Hopefully we can both continue to contribute our knowledge towards the quest for Wikipedia to be the best encyclopedia ever created :-) Huddsblue (talk) 08:28, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for Retraction

I look forward to working together in the future. Wikipedia has so much potential to reach people especially ones that are resource poor or not academic. I use Wikipedia for background when I am put in a situation where I have not got even basic knowledge. By way of background, I did disaster relief years ago before I was injured and one of the biggest barriers was lack of credible information. I can no longer go in person for Red Cross or others so sharing what people like Evidence Aid can do seemed a great substitute.I will work on the suggestions from Mr Bill, it is my very first page so hopefully by the time I do another one I will be better at this. Congratulations on contributing an article to WP

edit

Greetings AmyEBHC and thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia. Writing a first article is a daunting task and you should be proud of your efforts. The links in the welcome message can provide lots of guidance. WP can seem stupefyingly complex at times and when editors with differing ideas interact it can get frustrating. I hope you persevere. Most of the time working on the encyclopedia is fun and it should be. My unsolicited guidance follows.

First and foremost think "encyclopedia" an article should answer the question, "What is x?" As factually, directly and concisely as possible. The sources for the information should be the best possible reliable sources (RS in wikispeak). Academic writing on the topic is the gold standard.

Next think, "just the facts". An encyclopedia gathers and presents the facts about a subject as represented in RS. Each and every statement in WP should be factual and come from a RS. Editors should not conduct original research (OR in wikispeak) by analyzing, synthesizing or juxtaposing the facts.

An aspect of being encyclopedic is notability. A subject must meet notability requirements to justify an article. The content of articles should be information that has been considered important enough for a secondary source to have covered. Primary sources are discouraged to a fairly large extent based on both reliability and notability (see WP:DUE).

I hope this is useful and encouraging. As a note the policies and guidelines (PAG) as written are what govern WP, the above are just my own summary interpretations. Feel free to bring any discussion or questions you wish to my talk page or here (article specific discussions should be on the talk page of the article). Best wishes and happy editing. - - MrBill3 (talk) 05:20, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Evidence Aid, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Volunteers. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:43, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am replacing the photo based on correspondence with Dr Djulbegovic as he thought owning the photo was sufficient. The new photo is a self-portrait, and we have permission to use it.

Hi Amy,
Many thanks for reaching out and helping correct the errors in my Wikipedia page. Tbe photo you used was made by a photographer of my previous employer. So, based on your explanation, I may not hold the copyright. I attached another photo of mine for which I am considered a copyright holder and which can be freely used in my Wikipedia page.
Thanks and after you replace the current photo, I hope the page can be now converted from the draft into a regular page.
Cordially,
ben
