Recent edit reversion

edit

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 13:04, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your feedback,@Sphilbrick. I'm new to Wikipedia and I would like to ask if the reason of the reversion is related to the copyright of the History content. In fact, I can see my mistake and I should not have added the information as found in the organisation's website. But does this invalidate the other information added? Or there are other reasons related to the reversion too? Again, I'm just trying to learn how to contribute properly and I would appreciate your feedback/guidance. Ana-colombo (talk) 13:32, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for asking. I think you understand that some of the material in your edit was problematic, but you wondered about the other material that might be fine. Unfortunately, the tool that sends reports of potential copyright issues delivers several hundred reports a day, and there is a very small handful of volunteers that attempt to address all of them. While it might be desirable that we spend the time looking at the entire edit, and only remove exactly those parts that are not compliant with copyright policy, the volume of reports means that when we identify and confirm a problem, we typically rollback (which can involve a sequence of edits). There are occasions, perhaps in this case, that this does remove edits that are acceptable. You are free to try again and make edits you feel are acceptable. S Philbrick(Talk) 15:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
That is really informative; thank you for your feedback, @Sphilbrick. I will try to add some changes again soon. I will be more careful and attentive to my edits this time. Ana-colombo (talk) 10:17, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Women in Red

edit

Hi there, Ana-colombo, and welcome to Women in Red. I'm really pleased to see you are interested in trying to reduce the gender gap on Wikipedia by covering more women biologists and other scientists. As a new contributor, you might find it useful to look through some of our Essays, in particular our Ten Simple Rules and, in connection with your future plans, How to run an editathon. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:44, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ipigott, thanks for all the links and information. I have started a draft page about the botanist Jennie van Ackeren Dieterle. I still have to work on it and I'll let you know when it is ready so that I can get your feedback. I'll also have a better look at the link about running an editathon later. Thanks again for all your help! Ana-colombo (talk) 16:54, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Ipigott, I have finished the draft about the botanist Jennie van Ackeren Dieterle. I don't know if it is enough content to create a Wikipedia page, but I hope so. At least I got a few references to support the information added. Could you please give your feedback on it? Here is the link for the page. Or should I "submit your draft for review" at the top of the page? Thanks. Ana-colombo (talk) 11:21, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've had a quick look through the draft and though quite short it looks fine to me. I'm rather busy with other things at the moment but I'll try to get back to it later today and move it to main space. Don't bother to submit the draft for review. It's fine the way it is.--Ipigott (talk) 11:31, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your message, @Ipigott. I've been learning a lot writing this page (even though short) and getting your feedback and comments. I'll keep an eye on your updates. Ana-colombo (talk) 15:44, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Trainer for biology event

edit

Hi Ana, it was nice seeing you at the edit-a-thon yesterday! I just wanted to let you know that I participated in train the trainers by Wikimedia UK in December to become a Wikipedia trainer (I haven't trained anyone yet though), and I study maths and biology, so if you need an extra trainer sometime, I would be interested in helping out! Rogalendingen (talk) 11:45, 28 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Rogalendingen, thanks for your message. It was nice meeting everyone on Friday. That is great to know. I don't know if you heard, but we (the Society I work for) are planning to organise an editathon this year which will be open to everyone but focused on our members that are experimental biologists. It would be great to have an extra trainer sometime and/or have you onboard for this project (if you would like so). Let me know and we can schedule a date to do the training/discuss the project. Thanks! Ana-colombo (talk) 11:27, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I heard part of it on Friday, but there wasn’t a natural situation to tell you that I would like to be part of the training at least, that’s why I left the message on your talk page in the first place. Joining the project sounds interesting too, but I’m not sure if I can promise anything. How much time do you think it will take? I only know what my time table/plans look like until May (I am applying for internships for the Summer, so I don’t even know which country I will be in between May and September), so is it a project that last several months or is it just one editathon?
Also, if you prefer to agree stuff over email, you can go to my userpage and send me an email from the userbox I have there. Rogalendingen (talk) 19:31, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Society for Experimental Biology Event

edit

Hi Ana-colombo

I thought I could leave you the same message that I have left on all the participants' (that joined the dashboard) talk page as well.

It was great seeing you at the event held by The Society for Experimental Biology 1.5 week ago! I just wanted to let you know that I and other editors are happy to help if you have any questions, and provide some useful resources:

  1. If you enjoyed talking to other people about editing Wikipedia and its sister projects, there are other events you can join (many are hybrid) here (none are related to SEB). I often attend the events held by the University of Edinburgh, which are open to everyone.
  2. If you edit Wikipedia in your own time and have a question, here is a link to the Teahouse that Nick Moyes talked about. You can ask questions there whenever you like.
  3. Here is a link to the event page where you can find useful resources like short videos about how to edit Wikipedia. (That page might be moved/the title might change, so if that link does not work, you can find more resources here).
  4. If you want me to send the slides in an email to you, you can send me an email from my userpage (click on "reached by email" in the userbox with the text "This user can be reached by email.").
  5. Here is a summary of the outcome of the event. We edited 54 articles, created 2 new articles, and added almost 30 000 words and 2 images.

I hope to see you again sometime in the future, and good luck with your future editing!

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

edit
  Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
