License tagging for File:Porosity and Permeability.jpeg
editThanks for uploading File:Porosity and Permeability.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. editYour recent edit on the page Janet Watson inappropriately referred to a person by a first name or an honorific prefix, contrary to Wikipedia's Manual of Style regarding biographies. Normally, after the first mention of a subject's full name in the lead, the subject's first name should not normally be used again, except in special cases such as usage in quotations and titles, or as allowed by the Manual of Style. If you would like to experiment further, please use the sandbox instead. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 01:15, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Janet Watson
editHi, I'm not trying to be difficult, but you do need to discuss your inclusion of the "Research" section on the talk page. You can't include material on Janet's page that is not directly related to her own research - if you could include all the things that she wrote about in her books that would cover the whole of geology. Mikenorton (talk) 19:02, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that when someone reverts your edit, you need to discuss the changes and come to a consensus before you re-add them. You can't keep adding things that were removed. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:41, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

editWe aren’t trying to be difficult either but this was done as a project for a class assignment and we have mentioned things from one of her books that relates to the course material we have learned. If I don’t know certain topics in the book well enough, I don’t think I should mention those things. But if I know a topic well enough I will discuss it. I’ll reword it if that’s what you want but we are trying to show to our professor that we can apply geology and this is how we’ve done it. Ana.menendezrubiera (talk) 20:58, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- I realise that you have an assignment to do, but the final result for the wikipedia article that you're working on has to match with the general requirements for all articles. In this case any content that is added must be relevant to the subject of the article and not just tangentially. The subject of the article, Janet Watson, did no research in either the fields of radioactivity or porosity and permeability, so the sections that you added on those topics are not relevant to the article and should not be retained. She did plenty of other research - look at the list of papers in Don Bowen's obituary (ref #5), which should allow you to flesh out her research career, if your target is a specific enlargement of the article. Mikenorton (talk) 21:21, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
I added a new section which is about her book. This is relevant because she is an author of the book, I also mentioned that this is not her research but her book has helped students to understand geology. This is what I consider a contribution from Janet Watson and therefore must be retained.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ana.menendezrubiera (talk • contribs) 22:33, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- I don't have access to the book in question, Geology and Man, but I have read a review of the book and neither topic is mentioned, suggesting that they are not a major part of the book's contents. So my point still stands that those sections are irrelevant to an article on Janet Watson,
- Another point, you cannot use wikipedia as a source - see Wikipedia:Reliable_sources#User-generated_content "In particular, a wikilink is not a reliable source." and WP:CIRC "Do not use articles from Wikipedia (whether this English Wikipedia or Wikipedias in other languages) as sources." Mikenorton (talk) 13:59, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I read the book, and both topics were mentioned in the book.
Non-free rationale for File:Porosity and Permeability.jpeg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Porosity and Permeability.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Also:
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
