Awards to be won range from delicacies such as the WikiCookie to the great Golden Wiki Award.

Merging Ismaili and Druze seven pillars

Since you started the Druze pillars page, I was wondering if you would support me merging Seven Pillars of Islam (Ismaili) with Seven Pillars of Islam (Druze). As you can see, the Ismaili have really come together with producing the Ismaili article and the corresponding Ismaili template, no need for us to be divided here. I'm really happy that now that the Ismaili have our own articles we can really consider the Druze Muslims unlike the other branches. Hope to hear your stance soon! --Enzuru 01:31, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Need more Arabic script

Thank you for adding the Arabic so quickly at those musical articles. You are great! Here are two more: mizmar and rhaita. Badagnani 02:42, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

I think "rhaita" and "ghaita" are both spelled the same in Arabic. The first letter should be "GHAYIN," then A, I, T, and A. This is the instrument used by the Moroccan group called THE MASTER MUSICIANS OF JAJOUKA, if that helps. There may be some websites in Arabic about this group, so you could test out to see if the spelling you guess is correct. It seems that the word came into North African Arabic from the extinct European language called Gothic, and "gait-" means "goat." In Bulgaria, the bagpipe is called "gaida," in Slovakia it's "gajdy," and in Spain it's "gaita" (though that name might have come up from Morocco). There's another theory that "ghaita" comes from the Arabic "ghait" (starting with GHAYIN), meaning "farm." But I haven't found that word in an Arabic dictionary. Is there such a word? Thanks again, Badagnani 18:00, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, do you think it could be غيطٕ or غيطٔ? My dictionary says غيط is "farm." Badagnani 23:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Anas, I consulted with the musicologist Halim El-Dabh and he gave me the spelling: غيطه or ألغيطه 131.123.231.143 19:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

WEDI (WORKGROUP FOR ELECTRONIC INTERCHANGE

DEAR ANAS

clicketeyclack flagged an incipient draft of an article i was writing on WEDI and he tells me you deleted the article. as i stated in my initial draft, i wrote the original article in 1991 and i released it to the public domain at the Washington DC press club in 1992. even the article was deleted for "apparent" copyright violations. I ask Jim Schuping, CEO of the WEDI organization to send me a clarifying email for your edification, which he did and follows immediately below and indicates that the document is in the public domain. Please undelete my initial document so that i may contnue to write an important summary of the WEDI for Wikipedia josephbrophyjoe 03:02, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Dear Joe,

Thank you for your inquiry. This is to advise you that the 1992-93 WEDI Report is available on the WEDI Website at www.wedi.org and is in the public domaine for your reference and use. We would ask that you cite WEDI as a source for the document or any excerpts that you might care to utilize. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions.

RfC

Just wanted to let you know that I opened an RfC on myself in response to the concerns raised during my RfA over my actions in the Gary Weiss dispute. The RfC is located here and I welcome any comments or questions you may have. CLA 09:36, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Hello Anas Salloum,

Thankyou for voting in my RfA. You will be pleased to know that it has been successful!! Meaning that I, Reedy Boy, am now an English Wikipedia Administrator.

It passed with a suprising 47/0/0, and I really am grateful of all your support, and I hope that I live up to your high expectations!

If there is anything I can do to help you out, please, do not hesitate to contact me!

Yours,
Reedy Boy 16:09, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

WEDI

after being "undeleted" WEDI was set up as "Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange". Unfortunately this is not the name of the organiztion. The name of the organization is WEDI. Pronoucned "Wee Dee". Millions of people know it by the name of WEDI. However, a page already exists for WEDI for the call letters of a radio station. I plan to place a link from WEDI to a new page "WEDI - Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange". This would make sense to most users.

I hope you have success with your exams. I will wait a few days before executing this change in hope that I hear from you. I will also consult with other experts on Wikipedia, specifically Clicketeyclack and Avi. joebrophyjoe 03:05, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

YechielMan's RFA

Thank you for participating in either of my unsuccessful requests for adminship. Although the experience was frustrating, it showed me some mistakes I was making, and I hope to learn from those mistakes.

Please take a few minutes to read User:YechielMan/Other stuff/RFA review and advise me how to proceed. Best regards. YechielMan 21:49, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello Anas and thanks for your good wishes in the last fortnight. It's certainly great to be able to help, especially at DYK, my favourite place on WP. I'm happy to have been able to help you showcase your hardwork on the main page. As you know, I don't eat anniversary cake, but you may indeed have a banana! Hope all is well with you! Quneitra

I don't normally edit Middle Eastern articles, but I came across the story of Quneitra (since it's been mentioned in the news at the moment) and was sufficiently interested to rewrite the current article. You might like to take a look. :-) -- ChrisO 21:51, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Ihsan thanks and other things Egyptian

Hey Anas! I just "wikistalked" you when you came up on my watchlist. Congrats on becoming an admin, didn't even know you became one! Now if only I could get Egyptian Americans to where you have Syrian Americans--I've been putting that one off for so long. Also, I'm really happy you created an article on Ihsan Abdel Quddous; he is by far my all time favorite Egyptian novelist. The first novel I read for him was La Totfi' el-Shams, for which I also see you created an article about the film. I appreciate all the work you've done on Egyptian-cinema related articles, everywhere I turn there is an article written by you :) By the way, in the honors and awards section in Ihsan's article, there is a bit of a mix-up with the years ("...in 1973. Two years later, in 1957,..."). I didn't fix it, because I don't know the correct date. Best, — Zerida 08:57, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Just dropping by to say "thank you" for supporting me in my recent my RfA. I passed the vote, and am now an admin. It will take me some getting used to with the new tools, but I thank you again for the trust. Have a good one, and, as always, happy editing! Jmlk17 05:09, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

That's me...

Dear Anas Salloum, thanks for your support in my recent RfA, it was, however, unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience. If you have anything to contribute by way of improvements or comments, please don’t hesitate to tell me.

I will run again. Until then, Cheers, Dfrg.msc 08:30, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

RE: Your AIV report

I apologise if I'm wrong; however, looking at User talk:12.106.140.3, the user had vandalised after his/her last warning. D4g0thur 08:23, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

True, but the warning is not recent. Whenever a final warning, or any warning for that matter, is 4 days old or more, the vandal must be warned again, and you must go through all three or four warnings before you report him. Cheers, Anas talk? 20:35, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello. Could I please ask you for two favours on this article? First, Arabic script. Second, in the history and on the talk page, Anonimu keeps accusing me of racism and fascism. Could you, as an Arab (currently the only participants are Romanians), opine as to whether my comments are in fact what he says they are? Thanks a lot for any input you can provide. Biruitorul 22:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Not a problem; now it's off the DYK page, it's not urgent and can wait a little while. And thanks for the script addition promise. Biruitorul 22:45, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Brother Anas! Thank you for all your hard work on the needed language categories and templates. User:Badagnani has taken it upon himself to try and migrate all the templates we just worked on to his own, without any discussion. He has removed my delete tag from his {{Needkhmer}}, and is snide about _me_ joining some discussion at some project where they decided to do this. See Template talk:Khmer and Template talk:Needkhmer. I don't buy it, and I would ask you to weigh in at those and at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 June 19. The page I wrote got deleted

i'm still new to this, but you deleted my page and i'm not sure why. i wrote an entry for Chris Stewart (poker player) yesterday and this morning it was gone. The guy is a professional poker player taking the World Series of Poker Tournament by storm with 3 notable cashes in the last year. i guess it was deleted because he's not important enough or whatever, but he is being mentioned on poker bulletin board sites such as neverwinpoker.com and the forums at 2+2. what else do i need to provide to prove he's worthy of his own entry? thanks.

Rebound91 23:56, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Rebound91. I deleted this article because its subject fails the criteria set in WP:BIO and WP:N. Therefore, the article was speedily deleted because there was no assertion of the notability of the subject. This means that you have to cite secondary sources to verify the information and prove his notability. Sources may encompass published works in all forms and media. Availability of secondary sources covering the subject are a good test for notability. Perhaps a news story on the player can help keep this article out of deletion. —Anas talk? 05:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Anas. I have 5 links to different sites specifically speaking about him (not including the two links i posted in the original article - 7 in all). They range from final table reports to his professional poker player profile including career winnings in each event and his online tournament successes. what do i need to do next?
Rebound91 22:51, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Well I'm not really sure if the sources you provided can confirm his notability. But, anyway, you can get another shot at the article; you can recreate it if you still have the text, or I can restore it for you. The article might go through an article for discussion process to determine whether the subject is notable enough to stay. —Anas talk? 10:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Ulrich Hagen

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Ulrich Hagen, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, it is best not to propose deletion of articles that have previously been de-{{prod}}ed, even by the article creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!
