IRC meeting to discuss Version 0.7

edit

Hi, I wanted to find out if you would be able to attend the IRC meeting on Version 0.7 on Sunday evening (6pm British Summer Time). We'll be talking with the publisher, the bot writer and others about plans for the release. If you're not familiar with IRC, I can help you download the software - worthwhile, because most Wikipedia meetings are done on IRC. If you can attend, please sign up here. Thanks! RfA and Help Desk question

edit

Heya Andrew, I was replying to the question on the Help Desk, and had an edit conflict with you, lol. I noticed your reply, and I thought perhaps you were not aware, but IPs are not allowed to comment on RfAs, only those with registered accounts can, and even some new editors are not always considered in the process. Take a look through the RfA instructions to see, but basically it says: "Any Wikipedian with an account is welcome to comment in the Support, Oppose, and Neutral sections. The candidate may respond to the comments of others. Certain comments may be discounted if there are suspicions of fraud; these may be the contributions of very new editors, sockpuppets, and meatpuppets. " Often, brand new editors whose first edits are to RfAs, are discounted, because a normal everyday new editor would have no idea what an RfA is, much less the process, so generally these are SPAs (of course, this is not a rule, nor is it always true, but it is something that editors take into consideration.) I did clarify that in the Help Desk topic, but I thought it would be polite to let you know here as well. Have a wonderful Sunday! ArielGold 16:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I was clearly mistaken with the IP thing. I do think though that if new editors had a valid comment that was backed up (however unlikely it is to happen) then it would be counted. Perhaps not. Thanks for highlighting this, have an equally wonderful Sunday. AndrewJDTALK -- 16:51, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
