Ice Hockey World Championships

edit

Oh boy, another nationalist debate. I love that you are so eager to correct things for russia, but you don't seem to give a damn about the Czechs or Germany. Wikipedia has a lon-established custom (see the discussion) to recognize countries that competed under different names seperately. So, all of the Olympic national medal totals are different. We had a huge, annoying discussion about this last year here, during which consensus was in favour of the current version. The Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia could be added under a new "previous competitors" section, but the current one is just for current members. -- Scorpion0422 22:06, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

WP:CANVASS

edit

Please read WP:CANVASS. You are currently in violation of it. -Djsasso (talk) 23:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I strictly follow the rules of Wikipedia and try not to exceed the "friendly notices" limit. I've notified in neutral way some interested parties. Andreyx109 (talk) 00:05, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Except that you didn't notify in a neutral way. I quote "The evidence I've provided from a reliable source in support of this argument is being rejected and there is seems to be a questionNeutral point of view." This shows that you expect people to back you up in your position which is not being neutral and is exactly the sort of thing that WP:CANVASS does not allow. -Djsasso (talk) 00:07, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, if you are not trying to reject the evidence i've provided, then you've to accept it, i've provided at least three sources stating that Russia is a successor of USSR in every way, i assume including the sport achievements. Andreyx109 (talk) 01:53, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would also note, you have not provided a source showing the medals are combined. All you are showing is that the countries are successors which no one has objected about. What they have objected about is that the medals are combined, something which the IIHF site seems to indicate they are not. So in effect the opposite side of the arguement from you has a reliable source to back up their claim, it is you that is missing a reliable source. -Djsasso (talk) 00:09, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've not noticed that IIHF indicates that Russia has a separate medal count with Soviet Union, what i've noticed is that IIHF accepts Russia as a legal successor to USSR, and it is noted on their web-site in the article about Russia. Moreover, I've provided a reference to Russian Ice Hockey Federation where the medal count is joint for Russia and USSR team. If you or anyone else think that RIHK is not a reliable source than its your onus to prove that, otherwise you have to accept it and not reject. Andreyx109 (talk) 01:53, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually per WP:RS, the Russian Federation is not a reliable source because they are not an independant secondary source and it benefits them to claim the medals are combined. They are what is known as a primary source (self-published) which cannot be used. -Djsasso (talk) 22:19, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ice hockey

edit

Hi, Andrey! Thank you for your offer, but I'm afraid I must decline it. Ice hockey (or, indeed, any team sports) is not something I am terribly interested in, or know much about. I have no good opinion on the medal count problem either—it seems there are pros and cons to either approach. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:41, May 11, 2009 (UTC)

If you're not bothering with that Mediation Cabal thingy, anymore? It should be deleted. GoodDay (talk) 14:08, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, after all, wikistalking is also a form of harrassment. You can try to act as noble as you like, but it doesn't change the fact that your main goal is to skew the statistics (as evidenced by your very first edit when you combined Russia and the Soviet Union, but not the Czechs). -- Scorpion0422 16:10, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Scorpion, please don't take me wrong, the only thing I am trying to do is to make Wikipedia better, we need to show the factual info, and I am not pushing my PoV here, in case of Ice Hockey it was IIHF PoV and I am sure that IOC will have similar PoV on the Olympic medal count, but we shall wait and see the actual response for it. What prove do you need to see that my interests are not bias? and that my only motivation is to make Wikipedia better. Lets do it together? Andreyx109 (talk) 16:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to the African Destubathon

edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:05, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
